Booked! Resort, Del Sol, invites and BM dresses!!!

Recommended Posts

Yeah!!! So after a few snags, we're finally all booked!!!! I can't wait! Sorry this is all thrown into one post.

RESORT

After changing our resort and the date (by moving the wedding forward three weeks, our guests saved about $400 per person - or $800 per couple!), we're all booked at the Bahia Principe Tulum for our wedding on Tuesday October 28th. So far we have 22 (and a baby!) coming! HUGE thanks to TA Lindsay who is our amazing travel agent. She got us a great rate and has been so helpful. To those of you trying to book at the Bahia, I got NO replies from the WC (even though I know she read my emails as I put a read receipt on it) but Lindsay was able to get a hold of them. So if you can't get an answer, get your TA to try. Now that we're booked and we've put deposits down, the WC always replies to me right away and is great about sending info.

PHOTOGRAPHER

I just booked Del Sol!! My sister loves photography (if you want to see the cutest baby EVER, she has a photo blog of her son HERE) and when we first cancelled our 'at home' wedding for our Mexico wedding, she told me all about this guy from Flash Flavor who was amazing and we had to hire. After seeing one Del Sol picture, I was sold! I emailed them and both Mateo and Sol were so helpful. Mateo gave us a ton of advice on ceremony times, etc. It's great to have someone down there give you advice as I'm sure Mexico is a lot different then rainy Vancouver, Canada where we're from! However...we just bought our first home so although I would love to hire both Mateo and Sol for 10 hours, it's just not going to happen. I have a feeling our bank won't accept wedding pictures instead of money for our mortgage payment..lol. But Mateo was incredible and worked with me to make it work. So, we've hired their new associate Diego for our wedding and then Mateo himself for our TTD two days after the wedding! I'm so excited about the TTD!!! Although, it means I'm going to have to start lifting weights - my wedding dress is a puffy, princess style dress with a huge crinoline that weights a ton when it's dry! So when it's soaking wet and filled with sand I'll need Hercules strength to not fall over.

INVITES

Our invites went out in the mail last week (so don't tell me if you see any errors!). There are so many beautiful invites on here that I took inspiration from so thanks to everyone who posted. I had planned on more elaborate invites but time was a factor...I'm still really happy with how they turned out though!

BM DRESSES

One of my BM's is a BM in another wedding the week before ours and her dress cost $275 each plus tax and alterations! On top of that she needs to pay for her own shoes, hair and make-up. As our BM's are all paying for their trips to Mexico, I wanted to keep the dresses inexpensive. Well, I bought a dress for a wedding last month and one of the girls said, why don't we use that dress as our BM. I went to the store yesterday (RW & Co.) and the salesgirl phoned every location to see about the dress. There were a total of 8 dress left! So I thought there was no way it would work as I need 5 dresses but it turns out they had every size we needed! And, since it was end of stock, the dress was marked down from $89 to $39!!! Here's a picture of me and FH at the wedding I wore it to last month - sorry about the bad picture, FH was a GM in the wedding and they ended up doing a few too many celebratory shots. The reason I'm standing funny and holding his hand is cause he kept trying to do the robot...lol.

It's too bad I didn't know I would be using it as the BM dress before the wedding so I didn't wear it that night - now everyone's going to wonder why I wore my BM's dress to someone else's wedding.

Whew...I think that's it. I'm so excited! Now I just need to wait until October cheesy.gif

Congrats on your decisions! As you already know, we will do all we can to accommodate you and offer any suggestions. Doing so makes our lives WAY easier :)

FYI, diego's website is still under construction. We aren't really accepting full time reservations for him as we are currently overworked and using him for assisting US when we shoot. For anybody that cares, his portfolio is del Sol Photography - Associate Photographer - Diego

I look forward to shooting your TTD :) We are coming up with lotsa kewl ideas and have some new photo toys to play with in the future!!!!

Cheers & best of luck with all your planning!

Mateo

FYI, FlashFlavor is a blog that I started a little over a year ago. In this blog, we actually discuss our professional lighting techniques and pretty much give away our ideas and creative process to ALL photographers. This blog is intended for the pro photog. It has helped us become published internationally in photo magazines and also led to several teaching jobs.

We at del Sol work not only to please the bride & groom but to educate other professionals in our biz. Its just what we can do to give back!

Cheers!
mateo

PS, cute baby!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
