I thought I would post a picture of my daughter's cake.  She spent two years in culinary arts before deciding that it wasn't for her.  She had an AHR after marrying in Bermuda in 2010.  It's a fun cake!  Mabye she will make mine for my vow renewal!

The only part of my wedding that didn't turn out....the cake.

I didn't cry, which I was pretty proud of!

I had heard and seen some poor examples of cakes from the resort, so I thought I would keep it simple.

I bought butterflies off of etsy from Sugar Robot to decorate my cake.  I had visions of beautiful butterflies flying.

Something like this

Unfortunately, the language barrier happened, and when I said "make sure you don't put the butterflies in the fridge", it didn't quite happen.  They got refrigerated, and the condensation made them wilt like soggy bits of paper. The chef guy was pretty upset. He didn't speak english, but he told my friends that spoke spanish it was beautiful beforehand, and the butterflies were flying.  We didn't let us get it down (though I risked bursting into tears for a moment).

Top layer was strawberry, bottom coconut both delicious

oh no! that really sucks. poor chef guy probably felt so bad!! I've know what I want for my cake but like you I'm not expecting a whole lot seeing what some people end up getting at their resorts. I'm the type of person to cry about something silly like an ugly cake to so I'm going to try my best to have a "what happens, happens" attitude. People don't usually eat much cake anyways, so fingers crossed lol!

Thanks!

That was the upside, the cake was freaking delicious - we demolished it! We had 33 people and we ate at least 2/3 of the cake, if not more.  They brought it to our room the next day and we may have eaten some more :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
