Wedding Pictures.. Barceló Maya Palace

Recommended Posts

I hear you, all I think about is my wedding at the Maya. I'm so happy that we decided to go with that place. However, I still have yet to pick my wedding package- my fiance and I cannot agree on what to do. I want the reception outside or at the grill, and Gabriela [our wedding planner] told us that's the most expensive package. Well, my fiance is being cheap and wants one of the cheaper ones, but is complaining about the menu.

Anyway, I think that [by Friday] we need to pick our package, thank goodness that I have already confirmed my day and time. :)

Philly Bride!

I LOVE your pictures!!!! I am so excited that I came across your wedding... it is exactly what I have pictured! i visited the Barcelo Maya Palace in April and met with Gabriela about my wedding.... She showed me the rooms inside, but figured since I was having everyone come from the Tri-State area.. why have the reception inside.... I love how it was by the pool!

Did you tell them where to set it up? or did they just set up there?

Who married you? Did you have a religious ceremony or just a civil?

How was the food?? What did the wedding reception food include? What did you not like?? Anything?

Also anything that you wish you did different?

Anything that you would recommend doing?

How was the heat? I see you got married in May... I'm getting married in July and am terrified of the heat!!!

Also.... how do you go upon the flowers?? Does the Barcelo take care of it for you??

I know this is a lot of questions.... but I was just so inspired by your wedding!!!

Please share any information you have!!! Greatly appreciated!!!

I am getting married January 24 at Barcelo Maya Palace Resort. I am dealing with a travel planner right now who is supposed to be getting us the best deal for flight and hotel. She just gave us a quote for flight and 8 nights, and it was outrageous... we found the same thing on Orbitz for $1500 cheaper. Barcelo Brides, who are you using to book your flight and hotel, and around how much is it going to be?

Hey Erica.

I'll try to answer all your questions and if i'll miss anything let me know!

Here we go:

Did you tell them where to set it up? or did they just set up there?

Oh no, I told them exactly where want my reception to be. They let you choose between the ceremony locations..

But the reception I told them I wanted by the pools. Nobody has done it before me so they were a little confused at first.. thought about it for a day and then gave me a OK…

Who married you? Did you have a religious ceremony or just a civil?

A had a civil ceremony so I donâ€t even that that guy who married us was. They said it was a minister but I doubt it.

He spoke good English and nobody even knew that it wasnâ€t legal.

How was the food?? What did the wedding reception food include? What did you not like?? Anything?

The food was great, well, I didnâ€t really get a chance to try it since I spent all the time on the dance floor.. Guests loved it though!

Here what I had and it was included in Ocean Scents package

Yellow fin tuna carpaccio

Cream of asparagus sauce

Guava sherbet with Mezcal

Surf & Turf (Beef tenderloin with lobster tail)

Luke warm half baked dark chocolate fondant

Coffee, petit fours..

But i have to tell you about the cake!!!! It was out of this world. It wasnâ€t fancy looking; no extra thought was put into decorating it. Simple 2 tier cake with a big flower on top to match the rest of the flowers in your wedding.

But that was the most delicious cake I have ever eaten in my life! You get to choose the flavor between strawberry, vanilla, coconut, chocolate and something else I donâ€t remember. I chose coconut!!!!!! It was something else!!!!

Also anything that you wish you did different?

No.. Not a thing!!! Everything was great.. (Well, I would have picked a different dress cause I hated mine, but thatâ€s irrelevant..)

Anything that you would recommend doing?

Bring pictures.. Lots of them! Whatever you want to see at your wedding… They need to see it! You canâ€t just tell them that you want certain things… well I guess you can, but there is no guarantee youâ€ll get it. I brought pictures of everything. Like gazebo for example. They only have 3 types of gazebos to chose from. And they have never done anything like I wanted. So I showed them the picture, my WC faxed it somewhere and I got exactly what I wanted.

How was the heat? I see you got married in May... I'm getting married in July and am terrified of the heat!!!

It was hot, no doubt about it. But a see breeze made it a lot better. I donâ€t know if you bought a dress yet, but go with something light.

Also.... how do you go upon the flowers?? Does the Barceló take care of it for you??

Yes, they have a huge folder with pictures. I didnâ€t find anything I liked in there so I told them what I wanted. They exceeded my expections. When I saw them for the first time I screamed. They looked so beautiful. But I did pay extra for orchids. Theyâ€re very expensive there.

If you like my flowers print the picture out and show it to them!

Hope this hepls :)

Let me know if you have any more questions

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
