Witnesses Also Need to Be in Mexico 3 Days Prior?

Recommended Posts

Hello, fellow brides

My wedding is booked with Riu Palace Riviera Maya. I know that the bride and groom need to be in Mexico three days prior.

Question: Do our witnesses also need to be there three days prior too?

I would recommend asking the wedding coordinator at the hotel. We had to have 4 witnessess, all have to be in Mexico for the same length of time (3 days for our resort). However, I do know that different resorts have different rules.

We only had 2 witnesses from our group that could make the trip in that timeframe. Then we "bought" the other 2 witnesses from the resort. They were $20 a piece, cash.

It was funny in the end though. The two witnesses were (1) the wedding coordinator and (2) the staff member that repeated the ceremony in English. :)

I'm not understanding why they need to be there three days PRIOR to the wedding--it's not like they have to get their blood test done or anything.

I'll check with the coordinator--hopefully, this is not the case. Otherwise, it looks like we'll have to have 4 'bought' witnesses from the resort. :-(

I am getting married at the Riu Palace Mexico on April 23. They are providing our witnesses but have made no mention of having to "buy" them.

What have they told you about documents? They told us all we need is birth certs and passports. They said they don't need apostille or to be translated. Is that consistent with what they told you? They have assured me twice that that is all we need and that rules are different in Cancun than in Playa.

Also, have you talked to them about having a translator for your ceremony? Just wondering how that works.

When is your wedding?

They needed the witnesses there to sign all the paperwork that has to be sent to city hall before the wedding, just FYI :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
