Car repair issue- not sure what to do

last july, my car window (driver side) started acting funny. I'd roll it down to get into my parking garage & it wouldn't go up all the way. If I waited a minute, rolled it back down & then rolled it up it would get there.

I took it to a place to have it fixed. They charged my $250 to replace the .....OK I forgot what they replaced, valve maybe?. When i got it back it was even worse. It did the thing more often & I had to wait longer to get the window back up. I took the car in again & they said it worked fine for them. So I left & it was still broken. It doesn't happen all the time, but often enough to be a problem. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes to get back up so I just never roll it down. So I took it in one more time & they said they can't tell whats wrong. When I asked for my money back they said they can't do that, but they'd definitly fix it. But, they don't know how to fix it.

The place is open M-F 9-5 so getting there is a PITA. Then being without a car is hard. So I've just been doing without any functional windows (my passenger broke before that so I leave it stuck up.) But, not having a drivers side window that works is annoying. I have to open my door to get into my parking garage, at drive thrus & the bank.

I've never delt with a mechanic problem like this. Should they have to refund my money? Should they have to figure out what's wrong? What if they can't fix it? Should I take it somewhere else? Or just keep opening my door. I've gotten skilled at swipping my card with the door cracked open.

The car is a 99 civic. I plan on keeping it atleast another 3-4 years. I just hate spending another $250 to take it elsewhere. The window can just break again too. It's the 2nd time my drivers side broke & my passenger broke twice too. I miss hand crank windows.

That happened with my car except the window fell all the way down inside the door! Then I had no window! I sold the car to my dad and they had to fix it. It happened to the back window too. It cost 600 to fix both. The thing that was broke was the thing the window sits on to push it up and down. I have no idea what its called. It sucks though. I would not roll it down if I were you cause thats what I did and it fell all the way down!

I don't have any advice about the mechanic, but I would stick to opening & closing the door for now!!!!!

This is happening to Mats truck (02 GMC Sierra) & he's been waiting for the nice weather to fix it himself. It happened this winter & has kept slipping down while he drives so it's been a chilly winter! lol

Sorry I'm not much help, but I hope it gets sorted out soon because I know how much of a PITA it is!!

I would take it to the local Honda dealership. Did you buy it brand new? Because if you didn't there might be a recall that you and the mechanic are not aware of. I think you might be able to search that online too....that is the recall. In my 99 Accord during the cold weather I could not lock the doors... one time I spent 30 minutes in a downtown Philadelphia parking garage trying to lock the doors... Long story short, but I had to crawl out of the trunk......ahahaha! But that was better than taking the chance of my car being stolen or broken into! But I would go the Honda dealership if I were you... Good luck!

Sorry, I don't have a real solution but that happened to a car we had a few years ago (can't quite rememeber what it was but it was a North American car). One night I got stopped by the RIDE program (random police check points set up to check for drinking and driving) and had to open the door to speak to the police officers. They must be used to it because they said it was ok and I went on my way.

You need Judge Mathis! LOL I'm not sure what the law says, if you have a service contract I would look at that to see if they limit their liability in terms of time.

If they last worked on it almost a year ago then I don't honestly see why they would fix it for free...whose to say what happened to the window in the months after they last touched it, plus it's not their fault that you couldn't get there when they offered free service before, you know? Maybe they will be kind and offer to look at it again at no cost but a refund is highly unlikely.

I could totally be wrong but that's my non-legal/non-mechanical assessment...good luck!

It's never worked. I took it in around August 2007. They replaced something but it was worse than before I took it in. I had a 90 day warranty. So I took it back & they said it worked for them. But, it's something that happens every other day or so. The next day it was doing the exact same thing. So I took it in one more time & they said they couldn't figure out what was wrong. So they never fixed it in the first place. Do I just let it go?

I took it in twice during the 90 days. It's not like they fixed it in July & then it broke again. It has never worked.

I went to the honda place with my other window. They broke my speaker & scratched up my window tint.

uggg Morgan - i am not really sure if they 'have to' refund your money - mechanics are funny - we just had new ABS sensors on our car and we were saying how lucky we feel to have a good mechanic that we can trust (friend referral from years ago) - can you ask around work/school and see if anyone can personally recommend someone?

i know it sucks to spend another $200 or $250 but if it is fixed for good it will be worth it. if you keep going back there and they don't know what they are doing and think you are a problem customer, i would be concerned that they would keep f--king things up KWIM?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
