Hello fellow destination brides! I have recently chosen the Barcelo Maya Palace as our destination wedding location, leaving April 30th next year!!! ! I am in the early stages of panning and am waiting for my destination travel specialist to get back to me with the next steps. I have a few questions for anyone willing to take the time to answer.... Has anyone upgraded the mint breeze package to move the reception to the beach? I really want to have both the ceremony and reception on the beach. I was looking at the sunset package, but since we are expecting 40+ people to attend, the extra charge p/p after the first 15 people is a little high. Are there any prefered beach locations that are recommended for the ceremony? What kind of flowers come with the mint package? My vision for the wedding is mostly white and/or creams with s few pops of colour for the bridesmaids dresses. It they are tropical flowers, can I have them changed to all white, or does that require an extra charge? What kind of music is included in the package? Do they play for the ceremony and reception? Can I sub the cake or photographer and save the money (we have a photographer friend hopefukly coming down) or do we get charged even if we dont want them? How are the photographers at the resort if we do end up using them? Has anyone chartered a boat for their group? My fiancé wants to rent a boat for everyone as a thank you for them coming... Thank you all so much! Any information is greatly appreciated. I really don't know what to do next :)

I can't tell you about upgrading the Mint Breeze to the beach because we decided to do it inside. It's going to be pretty hot in July and I'm thinking grandparents etc who aren't used to the heat are going to need some time in the AC after being outside for the ceremony.

As for flowers, the wedding coordinator told me that they can literally do anything you want, it will just be priced according to availability. Check out the photos on this thread (right hand side, recent images in this thread) and you will see from the pics that people have a wide range of flowers. I can email you what the WC sent me so you can see what they offer...she said also if I didn't like those, just pick other colors/flowers and send pics. Private message me your email address!

As for music, the mint breeze includes either a violin, flute or guitar (I think...?) for the ceremony, but this doesn't extend to the reception, although you can definitely rent any kind of music you want for that portion of the wedding. We are going with the ipod...just made a playlist and are going to plug it in during the reception (this option is free for the speakers etc).

I don't think you can substitute things for the cake...it's just a part of the package. As for photographers, they recommend their photographers because they have a contract with them, but you have to purchase packages from the company, it's not included! We are hiring a different photographer as well, so we paid for her room instead of paying the $500 vendors fee.

Hope that was helpful! Sorry I couldn't answer more!

Hi ArtisticBride, can you let me know what the cost was to upgrade to the beach reception? I haven't chosen a wedding package yet since I'm hoping to be able to upgrade one of the cheaper packages to a beach reception. Thanks!!!
Hi Mjones! After much deliberation, we decided to just go with the strawberry package...they really don't accommodate for anything unless you pay for the pricier packages (kinda irritated by it actually!). They won't even let you move to nearby palapas outdoors in rainy weather UNLESS you buy the strawberry package or have 50 or more guests. (They stick you in a banquet hall) which for us would be awkward because we have a very small group of 17. To answer your question... our WC quoted us $70/person to add on the beach reception ($26 for kids). Also FYI that the menu will be the banquet menu - surf and turf option is only on the strawberry package menu. Hope that helps :)

I do know that peonies are one of the types of flowers they charge extra for... I sent a picture of a bouquet of roses and peonies and my wedding coordinator said it would cost about $50. I know some things are seasonal so maybe that would change the cost...

I was also thinking to get all peonies for my flower bouquet. Peonies don't grow in Mexico and are very pricey. Barcelo charged $35  in December  for 1 steam and you need from 8 to 12 of them at least. Total price around $300/400. Way to pricey. sad.gif

We decided to go with just white roses. Roses that they are using are fully opened and looks like peonies from far away and on the pictures ( See my pictures in my profile)

Oh good one! Your bouquet looks gorgeous! I want to do the same thing, all white flowers. How much did you pay for this bouquet?

I had white lilies and they were included in the strawberry package, I had them throw some purple in because it was one of my wedding colours. 400

Hello everyone,

I am on step 2, choosing the menu and cake.

Does anyone have a photo of the cake that came with their strawberry passion package? The one that feeds 10 people. I imagine it's one tier and very basic, which i'm totally fine with, just curious to see how some of them turned out.

Thanks!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
