Did anyone use an outside photographer? If so, did you pay for the 2 night stay? or pay the $500 deposit? I'm trying to get a price for the 2 night stay but it wont let me book for 2 nights it has to be a 3 night stay. What did you ladies do?

Also, my wedding is on May 25th and my WC has not contacted me? Should I be worried is this normal?

Thanks Ladies!

I'm currently in the process of looking for an outside photographer....it's so tough to decide!! I have just not heard good things about the Smile Market/Kodak people! I looked on this site for other people's suggestions, then went on their websites and checked out the photos. Then I emailed different companies for a price list and we're starting to narrow it down. SO DIFFICULT!!! I have asked my WC what the process is for booking an outside photographer, but have not received a reply yet. I'll let you know when I do.

Hmmm...when did you book your wedding? Did you use a travel agent? My wedding is July 6 and I started communicating awhile ago. Who is your WC? My travel agent started communicating with them by emailing weddings6@barcelomaya.com (this is jacqueline's email) and then Victoria (bodas@barcelomaya.com) started emailing me for steps of the planning process. Do you want me to send you the steps that I have received so far? That way once you are in communication with the planner you can have all your answers ready?? I can definitely do that!

So I wouldn't stress about it:). We aren't planning on adding more hours but if we feel rushed or didn't get to dance much after everything was done then we will add more time. We are also planning to go to the disco afterwards and I haven't though about doing VIP or not...

That's good to know, thanks! Everything seems very black and white, where you HAVE to give an exact number of hours etc, but I need to remember THIS IS MEXICO!! My mom already warned me to remember they kind of operate on 'island time' and to try not to freak out when things don't run on time haha!

Yeah I just saw in the Mint Breeze package the bride and groom get 'free VIP access to Jaguar Disco' so I asked her about it and guests are $10 or $20...I guess we'll assess that situation once we're there too!

Congrats Julie + julienelson0713 - both on your upcoming weddings and choosing the Barcelo Maya Palace.......an awesome venue for your destination weddings, for sure!!! so great choice :)

The head wedding co-ordinator at the Barcelo, Claudia Vasquez is really a professional and on top of her game - a great resource for brides at the Barcelo Palace!

Numerous wedding couples have hired us for their outside professional photographer there, and have paid for our required 2-night stay as their guests. That's a technicallity which gets around needing to pay their outside vendor fee.

As guests at their wedding, we're free to shoot their photographs ........a win / win / win for everyone :)

I am renting vases from the resort ($7 each) and bringing my own candles and ribbon. Here is a picture of what I am doing (there will be sand in the vase):

I am also renting vases to put the bouquets in for the head table & you get a centerpiece that is used during the reception and then again for the head table that is included in your package.

Hi Ladies,

What was your timeline like for the big day?? I'm trying to figure out how much time we will need between the ceremony (hopefully short and sweet, non-denominational minister) and the reception for taking photos? Our ceremony is at 4pm and I was hoping to start the reception at 6:30. Does that sound like enough time??

Sorry for the long delay in responding, instead of responding to certain questions i thought I'd just write a bit and some questions will be covered regarding time line, jaguars, etc. So yes you can decide on the day of the wedding if you want to extend the reception. We knew we wanted to extend for 2 hours just so we had time to do some dances and stuff, once we realized how much fun everyone was having and were given a 15 minute warning we extended it one more hour. Our timeline was this: 3:30 reception at Gazebo (symbolic) Group pictures then bride and groom pics (we wanted a bunch of good pictures and to not be rushed so we left ourselves enough time) everyone went to the bar and had drinks, the time passed by quickly but we had lots of time for excellent pics! 5:30 reception began with our intro then into first dance, we then quickly cut the cake (to get pics and video of it) then did speeches (again so photo and videographers could catch them) and dinner was served immediately after. (We had about 20 of us, not a ton of young party people, but some older party people! Lol) There was time to party for a quite a while after eating. My opinion would be to skip on the VIP at the jaguars club, the place, even at its busiest isn't so busy that you can't have your own little area to hang out. I believe it opened at 10:30 or 11:00 but can't be 100% sure, although it is surely around then

Julie,

I used FotoTakeIt for our wedding and the pictures are fantastic!  Good prices too and there are 2 photographers so when you are getting ready, there is a girl with the girls and a guy with the guys.

Let me know if you want me to send you the packet that they sent us.

Basically, you just book the photographer.  A few weeks before your wedding, you WC will ask you if you have booked the 2 hotel nights or if you are going to pay the $500 fee.  We found it was just easier to book whoever whenever and not wait for the WC response - everything worked out.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
