Finzup, I feel your pain. I had my date on hold awhile ago but it probably took them 3 weeks to get back to me after the initial e-mail. I sent Gabriela an e-mail over a month ago with a copy of my travel booking with a couple other questions. She just got back to me 2 days ago!! I had to have my TA call her before I booked my trip because she was ignoring my e-mails about what day I needed to be there for a legal wedding.

I would definitely recommend calling or having your TA call for you. It gets super frustrating...and I understand they are crazy busy.

I finally have my date officially confirmed! January, 25 2010! Can't wait!

Ok this might be a stupid question but does the Kitchener photographer have contacts there or are you flying him out? Could you send me the contact info please.
So your getting married around the same time that i would like to......what did you end up paying? I'm tried to find the cheapest week for everyone.

Hi Sabrina,

Sorry I couldn't respond sooner. Here is the email I use to correspond with Victoria, along with her telephone number...just in case:

Bodas@barcelomaya.com
Tel: 011 + 52 (984) 875 15 00 Ext. 6765

The photographer in Kitchener would need to be flown out, but her prices are actually very reasonable compared to a lot of others...and trust me, I've done my fair share of research. Her company is called Captured Soul Photography. It won't hurt to check her out. I have done a consult meeting with her with my fiancee and she was great! I also pm'd you with our flight information. Let me know if you need anything else...and hope this helps!

At any point before that do you leave a deposit for the wedding date?

thx!
Hi,

They will put your wedding date on hold for you until about 2 months before the day. No deposit is needed as you pay for everything once you meet with the coordinator during your wedding week. They cannot confirm the actual date for you until you have booked your vacation and are able to send them your travel manifest as proof that you are going to be at the resort during the day of your wedding. I hope this helps :o)

Gabriela is my wc and she has been pretty good so far but I haven't been demanding. She was quick to hold my date (about a week?). I haven't bombarded her with questions because I am not getting married until February and I am sure she is busy with those who are coming up soon. She took a little longer to respond to officially book my date after I sent the manifest... actually no, she was probably within a week too. Then she sent me the paper work I need to fill out for the legal aspect.

I dunno, they probably get annoyed with people emailing all the time asking the same questions. Try to get a lot of your questions answered here. There is not a whole lot you can do with them before you get there anyway. Give her a chance, but if she doesn't put your date on hold soon, maybe give a call. Once you have your date on hold you can sit back and relax. :)

I agree with all of you about the strawberry package- I figure this is a once in a lifetime event, and it is worth spending a little extra to have the reception on the beach!

I am having an AHR a few weeks after we get back. The funny thing is that the AHR will cost more than the DW, but my mom is pretty adament that we have something for those who couldn't attend, and my parents are paying for that, so I can't really argue.

I completely agree. I'm leaning towards the Strawberry package simply for the outside reception. I really don't want to be in a banquet room when we flew everyone to Mexico...

My FI is not happy that we would have to spend so much extra money on the meal per person over 15 guests, like 66 dollars p/phuh.gif That can really add up!!! His point of view is that our guests have already paid for their meals in their AI rates, so why pay so much more for the extra meal when the food at the restaraunts is very goodhuh.gif I guess I can see his point, but I also understand that the extra rate is for the private staff and that it is supposedly "different" food than what is typically served at the a la cartes. It's making the decision making very hard as we are not sure exactly how many guests we'll have, but right now, it's looking close to 30. Sorry for all the venting, my actual questions is:

Also, are ya'll having an at home reception in addition or just having the party in Mexico....?

Also in response to the photographer question: I contacted WC Victoria at the resort and she emailed me back saying that as long as my photographer was a guest staying at least one night at the resort, that this was fine. She did not say anything about having to pay the fee since my photographer had a room for 3 nights. I did make a copy of this email to take with me in case this becomes an issue next may.

That's what I think we are going to do also..a low key barbeque/picinic type reception for friends and family who could not attend. We priced doing a more formal type reception here, but like sfrench0621 stated, it was more expensive to have just a reception here than it was to have the whole wedding/stay in Mexico!!! So we scratched that idea pretty quickly...

Hi everyone! The information in here is awesome!! We just got engaged last month, and we're planning on getting married at the Barcelo Maya Palace next November - our TA is really recommending this place! We're actually going to visit for one night this December, because we'll be there for another wedding at the Paradisus. I can't wait to see the resort!

I do have a couple questions... How much can I change the packages? For example the Strawberry package? We do not want to do dinner, because we're expecting 60-80 people (my brother just had a Vegas wedding last weekend... 100 people - yikes!) If I want to just do appetizers, can I do that? Also, I saw on thier website that the wedding and reception location isn't confirmed until you meet with the wedding coordinator. If I decide during our visit in December, can I confirm a location even if it's 11 months out? Or can I confirm as my date gets closer even if we don't make another trip before the wedding? Also, does it matter...? The gazebo looks great, but I bet all of the outdoor locations are nice! Thanks for all the help/advice!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
