Here's a description on the difference b/w the beach/caribe, tropical/colonial and palace:

When you stay at the Barcelo Maya Palace, you have access to all aspects of the other 4 resorts. The same is not true from the other end up.

When staying at the Maya Beach or the Maya Caribe these two resorts share amenities and restaurants. You can go one level up and use the beach area, pool area, beach restaurants and bars at the Maya Colonial and Maya Tropical Beach. But you do not have access to all parts of these two resorts (including the Buffet and À la carte Restaurants) and you do not have access to the Maya Palace.

The Maya Colonial and Maya Tropical Beach are sister resorts and they share amenities, pools and restaurants, you can go to the lower resorts, but guests cannot go up a level to the Maya Palace and use their restaurants or amenities.

Another big difference between the Maya Palace and the other 4 Barcelo resorts is access to the à la carte (specialty) restaurants. At all 5 resorts reservations are required as well as tickets. At the Maya Palace you have a ticket for every night of your stay. However, at the other 4 Barcelo resorts you have limited tickets depending upon the length of your stay:

I don't know about onsite photogs b/c we're bringing our own from home. But try to do a search on this forum for photogs, there's a lot in that area.

Hi Carie!

It's very reassuring to know that you had a good experience with Victoria. I was beginning to worry as it had taken so long to get a response from anyone at Barcelo. I do have a few questions if you don't mind... Where did your ceremony and reception take place? What options were available with regards to flowers, cakes and decorations? Thanks so much!!

Hi MObride09-You ask all the questions you want I am happy to help!

I was like you and worried a lot about the communication between us and the WC's as they do take awhile to reply. But seriously don't worry when we got there it was perfect! As for wedding locations I believe that your location is dependant on what wedding package you pick. We were simple and picked the "Sea Breeze" package and our wedding was on the Colonial beach between the dock and sea due rentals! I thought it was nice there and they do an excellent job closing it off! There were still people watching but they weren't walking through or behind and that's all we cared about! For your flowers they will give you a big binder to pick from and if you see something you like you can always change colors and play around with them a bit. Neither my husband nor I cared much about decorations, at the ceremony we had the chair bows, and a flower arrangement at the front table. At the reception each table had a fruit with candle centerpiece and we were happy with that. As for cakes you are given a certain size depending on the package! We ended up getting a bigger cake and got one layer chocolate and the other vanilla! I will try and post some pictures of this all! I hope I've helped you a bit. If you have any other questions keep asking!!!

Has anyone had luck negotiating a free or reduced price reception for bringing a large group? How about a free cocktail/appetizer hour?

We plan on having a very large group (around 100 guests) and can't imagine paying the extra per person charge for the reception ($4,000-$5,000 extra cost to us) but we would still like to have something for our guests considering they traveled all that way to be with us. It makes sense to us that we should receive some sort of perk for bringing so many guests. We've even considered the Riu Riviera Maya Palace simply because they offer a package that includes all of the wedding guests for the same price as Barcelo's packages that only include 10 people.

We are having a low key at home reception, kind of a back yard barbecue type of event, so it would be nice to have some dinner and dancing and other traditional reception happenings while in Mexico. We considered just having the ceremony and sending everyone off on their own to eat and then meeting later at a bar but that just doesn't seem right (April would LOVE to wear her dress for more than 20 minutes during the ceremony ;-) Thanks for your input!

Hi Barcelo Maya brides!!!!! Has anyone receieved any updates with 2010 packages and pricing? I am getting anxious here! I also wanted to ask previous brides about their package choice and how many guests it included? How much was each additional guest? Was it a 4-course dinner? Also, how much to upgrade flower arrangements for tables or bride's bouquet? And chair sashes? My colors are orange and teal. I would like white tablecloths and chair covers but would like teal chair sashes and perhaps a table runner. Is this something that's included or would I have to bring them myself? I'm so confused sad.gif HELP!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
