Hi Suzanne!

Welcome to the forum. I know how frustrating it is to find a place... I was so happy when we finally decided on Barcelo. I am getting married there on January 24, 2009... I will try to answer your questions as best I can, but hopefully you will get some answers from some brides that have already been married there.

"Which Barcelo property is the best and which package did you choose and why?"

- The Palace resort is the newest resort on the property and we have heard that it is the nicest. We heard there is a steak buffet, and top shelf liquor is included in the all inclusive package. Also, there is an adults only pool, and the rooms are bigger and nicer.

- The Tropical/Colonial Hotels are a step below the Palace.

- The Beach/Caribe are the oldest hotels on the property.

We chose the Ocean Scents package, because we wanted to do have our reception beach front or in one of the open air grills. And we are expecting quite a few people, and the package included 15 people and Under the Stars included 10.

"Any thoughts about the beach dinner vs. the banquet hall?"

We thought about doing the beach dinner, but then we found out January is their windy season, and sand in our food didn't sound too great to us. We decided on doing a cocktail hour on the beach, and then heading in to the reception. We are having the reception in an open air grill.

"Does anyone know how the food is and what food is served with the packages?"

I received a copy of the food packages from another Bride on the Forum...as far as I know, it is up to date.

"How is their photographer?"

I do not have any information about their photographer, because we will be bringing our own. Sorry.

"And does anyone have any pics?"

If you go to our wedding website, www.keelyandlee.com

Then click on the Travel & Accommodations link at the top

On the left hand side in white, it says, "Click here to view pictures of the resort." Click there and you will find a bunch of pictures I have taken from different Web sites.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Hi,

Have you looked into the Unofficial Barcelo Maya site? Someone has also mentioned it in here earlier. The forum includes a thread of wedding pictures. A few brides in there have posted pictures done by the on site photographer. I haven't really been impressed with their work and am looking for a photographer to bring down or hire a local photographer. Hope this helps.

Hello everyone!

I have a few questions about the Barcelo Maya Palace if you don't mind.

My fiance and I are looking into the Barcelo for our wedding in approx May 2010, I know I'm getting a little ahead of myself but I'm just so excited to start planning!!

I sent an email to the Barcelo a little while ago and haven't heard back yet, but can any one who's been to this resort tell me if it's wheelchair accessible? My dad is in a wheelchair so this is a MUST. :) If it's not, we'll just have to continue our searches.

Also, I've read somewhere that the Barcelo chain offers free weddings. Does anyone have any more info on this or what you need in order to qualify for that? Just something worth looking into.

I can't find any info about their wedding packages on their website, am I just missing it?

Last question - would you say this resort is expensive? I am really trying to keep the cost per person for our guests under $2000. Would you say that's possible with this resort?

Thank you so much in advance for any info you can give me.

Hi Cara, I am just in the beginning stages of planning our weddiing at the Barcelo Maya. I have not heard anything about free weddings at this resort. I just recieved their 2009 packages and would be happy to send it to you. It's very large though so I cannot post. PM me with your e-mail and I'll send it your way.

Good luck!

I got an e-mail from my wedding coordinator at the Barcelo last night. I had asked about the photographer process so I could have something in writing. In response she also told me they now have new photographers there and sent me a slideshow. The pictures look pretty good. There are a few cheesy ones, but other than that I was impressed. Anyone used the new photographers at the Barcelo yet?

Hello all, I am also interested in the Barcelo Palace. I have been looking at resorts for about 2 months now and I am very pleased with the feed back I have got on the Barcelo resorts. I plan on getting married in June 2009 not sure the exact date yet! But I think you are making a great choice! I am also looking at the biah principle Akumal resort as well do you have any feed back!!

And congrats to everyone

Kate

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
