Congratulations as a bride-to-be, and also as a new mommy! I got married at the Palace on May 12, and I can't answer all of your questions, but I can help with some!

We did our reception around the pool at the Palace, and it was beautiful, however if the other option fits better with your budget then I would say do that option. Anything that you do there will be beautiful, and as long as you have all of the people you love it will be perfect.

I used Styling Trio on my wedding day for myself, my bridesmaids and my mom and they were absolutely amazing. All 7 of us have gotten our makeup done many times for many occasions, and we ALL agreed that this was the best hair and makeup we had ever gotten done. We all still looked flawless the next morning even after sweating all day and night! For some of the brides you get hair and makeup included from the Barcelo, so I used this for my welcome dinner the night before and I have to say while the women were extremely nice, I was very unimpressed with the results.

Apologies for not being able to help with any of your other questions, but if there is anything else that comes up please feel free to reach out!

Happy Planning xoxo

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!

We were married on April 15. I also went through 3 WC's in the year that I spent planning the wedding - it was incredibly frustrating! Itzel was my last planner and the one who was there at on my wedding day but she's since left .... Funny because she worked front desk for four years before moving to the wedding side of things, and then was only there for 7 months!!! Makes you wonder a bit what's going on in that department!! I'm not sure if she's still at Barcelo,

I used Beso Brides for my hair and makeup and have no regrets at all! My guests also used their services and were very happy. I did a lot of research prior to and I found their prices very fair, and quite a bit less then many I checked out. They also don't ask for a deposit, just full payment on the day of the wedding. With all the money I was bleeding out before the wedding I found that refreshing! Do NOT use the spa - my daughter used my hair and makeup included with our wedding package and she had to fix it all afterwards. The makeup was very theatrical looking, and not flattering at all. They like their frosty eye shadow, that's for sure!!! Haha

We declined the upgrade to the Palace and stayed at the Tropical, which is where us and all of our guests booked. We just asked for a nicer room at the location, and got a beautiful ocean view. We personally felt the Palace is too far away from Some of our fave places at the resort so we prefer to stay there (second time at Barcelo and we've stayed at the Tropical both times for that reason).

I'm not sure what you mean about doing your cocktail hour as a reception? Do you mean you are extending your reception or just doing an extended cocktail hour instead of a reception?

Hi everyone, I am so glad I have found this website. It has been very helpful to read all of your post, thanks so much! I do have questions if anyone is willing to answer that has some knowledge and experience having their wedding already at Barcelo. I am staying at the palace I have approx. 50 guest attending. I chose the mint breeze package. I am leaning towards playa azul beach for the ceremony and as far as the reception I'm a little stumped. Do I get to choose the location? I know it has to be inside so does that mean a banquet hall or choice of one of the grills? And do you recommend after a hot day in June to have the reception in a hall or one of the grills? I read they don't have no AC. Please let me know. Thanks

Hey!  It's so refreshing to find someone else that is getting married at the same resort and about the same time as I am.  I am getting married on March 3rd, 2017.

We have decided on the Strawberry wedding package but have started to even consider that now that there are so many extra costs involved and other add on's we want.  Most of which are not included in the package.  We have roughly 60 people attending the wedding, that additional cost per person is a lot as it is for an add on.  What package did you choose on?

I have a few questions for you along with some insight as to your questions.

Reception/Cocktail: Do you still pick your meal for dinner or eat the buffet?  Did you pay the extra hour charge to extent your reception? Where are you hosting your reception if dinner is in the buffet area?

Hair/Makeup:  I have read numerous reviews as to not have it done by the salon in the hotel, even though I have not research where to go just yet.  I'm hoping to find someone that does airbrush makeup that will come to our room.

Have you decided on a photographer yet?  I am completely struggling with this right now :(

Hey there all of you 2016 brides that were married at Barceló this year!! :)

I have a question for all of you that had a civil ceremony: We were supposed to get an official marriage certificate in the mail "within three months", but 4 months has passed and nothing has arrived yet.  I know everything is a LOT slower than they say, but I'm just wondering if/when you've received yours, and what the timeframe was.

Thanks! :)

Hi everyone!

I am getting married at the Barcelo Maya Colonial on January 14, 2017 and need all of the help I can get.  This website has been super helpful!

Has anyone used the DJ that the Barcelo offers?

Also, I don't really see why there is such a huge price difference per person between the Mint and Strawberry packages.  Has anyone been successful at having the Mint package and just upgrading to an outdoor grill without paying for the Strawberry package?

Thanks!

Hey!  I am getting married at Barceló Maya Colonial March 3rd, 2017!!  Not to far from when you are getting married :)

I can try and help as much as possible with all the research I have completed (I read every review on here and other sites lol) which seems to be a lot.

DJ- I read nothing but good reviews about the hotel DJ but have also heard they are more spendy than hiring an outside vender.  Which wedding package have you decided on?

My WC advised me that if I wanted a outdoor beach reception then I needed to do the Strawberry package rather than the mint breeze package.  Anyone else hear different?

I would love to try and save a little money!!

I have a few questions for you if you don't mind?

1) How many guests are you planning on having?

2) Who is your WC?

3) Have you decided on a ceremony or reception are?

Talk soon- Stacy

Yaaaaaay!  I'm glad I'm not alone!  Have you been to the Barcelo before?  We were there in February and loved it.

I can't believe you read through everything.  I started from the most recent and worked my way backwards but there's just sooo much.  Everything I read has been super helpful.

We originally chose the Mint package but have now found out that to have the wedding in an outdoor grill we need to upgrade.  I'm kind of annoyed because I don't need all the silly extras like the premium wrist band and stuff.  So I am trying to convince my WC (Abraham) to let us just pay a bit extra from the Mint package just to have it outdoors.  Fingers crossed.....but I probably won't find out until he responds in about 3 weeks LOL!  We are having 41 adults and 4 kids.  The price difference per person between the Mint and Strawberry also seems a bit ridiculous.  The bulk of the menu options are the same so I am not sure why it's double.

For the ceremony I have asked to have it on the cliff overlooking the water by the Palace.  I saw some beach weddings when I was there and was absolutely turned off by them.

I'm finding it hard to do any planning since they take forever to respond.  I want to order some decorations and linens but until I know the location, table sizes, prices they charge etc. I can't do anything.  And I don't want to wait until last minute because I need time to have things shipped to me.  Oh well, I hope you are having better luck than me!  So far I was just given my options for cakes, bouquets, boutonniers and huppa's.

Waiting impatiently.....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
