I would say about 45 - 1 hour per person and the bride plan for an hour and a half. Yes, bring in pictures for both hair and make-up or just tell them what you want. As far as hanging out at the spa no there really isn't much to do. . I would suggest that you get nails done before you go as mine didn't last long and felt that was the only waste of money at the salon. Not sure as to what type of make up they use but it worked well with my dry skin. :) Hope that helps a little

Hi Ladies!! New here.  I would be super grateful for any and all information + pictures you ladies can send me in regards to having a wedding at Barcelo Maya Beach or Palace.  ( @TaraW @SammyMac @Bcari16 @@kimmyd2 and anyone else. ) I have so so many questions & have yet to make a deposit, as I first want to make sure this is the place for us and within our budget.

I can be e-mailed at: Weddinginparadise5815@@gmail.com

Thank you greatly!! Best wishes to all of you.  I really hope your weddings turn out to be everything you dreamt of and more :)!

(Please forgive me if I made any errors here!  Just starting to learn how to use this site!)

Also, if anyone would be willing to give me the wedding options they chose & a breakdown of costs, I would be so so thankful.  I'm just now trying to plan & get an average cost in my head as to what things may add up to & if this would be within our budget. I'm pressed for time & it's overhwleming. Especially knowing how long it can take the coordinators to reply. Again, my e-mail is: Weddinginparadise5815@@gmail.com

Gracias!!! ;)

HI @@JJ785220!   Congrats and welcome to the forum!  As you can see Barcelo if a very popular resort and is a beautiful place with one of the best beaches I have seen,  I have been to this resort a few years ago.  If you have narrowed down to a few resorts then you are on the right path, but like a lot of people will say on here picking the resort is the hardest part.

If you haven't already, you should definitely get a travel agent right away to help you with costs, planning and they will help you secure your wedding date and will be very helpful!!  For most packages you don't need to put down a deposit, except for the tangerine I think..  Do you have the packages file yet with all the different wedding types and prices?  Let me know if you need it, I can email it to you and I'm sure you will find lots of helpful advice from everyone here as well!!

I have found that Barcelo is quite pricey for weddings, the packages seem reasonable at first but after you add on extra guests, dj, photography and little things barcelo charges for it does really add up, so just depends on your budget.

Good luck in the beggining stages!!  :)

@@TaraW - I think your schedule looks great and I actually tweaked mine a bit to look more like yours. I changed my 6pm ceremony time to 5, and then reception is planned to go from 7 - 11. Just worried that might not be enough time for pictures...  but then again I'll probably get sick of posing after an hour! haha

From what I've seen I really like the coral area for the ceremony; however, I also like the idea of moving it to the more private pristine looking beach area. I sort of like Coral though as it should provide some shade for some of our guests.

@@VannessLares - did you have any guests with allergies? I have 2 guests with shellfish allergies, 2 vegetarians and 2 gluten free guests. We are opting for the surf & turf, but I'm wondering if the resort does a good job at accommodating allergies.

Hi!

Our Menu was really easy... No allergies in our group.

We had a shrimp cocktail with no ketchup, lemon soup, surf and turf, and the chocolate cake for desert!

The food was delicious....

@@JJ785220 - welcome! Prices really range especially depending on what you want and how many guests you are having. I am going through the process of making decisions for my ceremony and reception and have been learning how very expensive it can be; however, I have around 70 people coming and I want to give them a great reception because they have invested so much into coming to see us get married. There are ways to keep costs down for sure. Either way, I am so excited that I am getting married at Barceló Maya. It's beautiful and I've talked to a lot of brides about their experiences. Something that really helped me (mostly because I'm a very visual person) is I went on Vimeo and searched videos using 'Barceló Maya palace wedding' and 'Barceló Maya' as key words when searching.  I was able to see lots of videos and it gave me an idea of how my wedding and reception could look. (Sorry brides, I've been creeping you! hahaha)

For past brides - I do have a few more questions.

1) We are going to try to have our ceremony at Playa Azul at 5pm. At 7pm we would like the reception to be held outside by Palameras grill (really like the idea of having a bunch on palm trees to wrap lights around). I am wondering where you would send your guests for some drinks and a bite to eat. That is a long time to go without food, but I was really hoping to extend the reception by an hour by saving on not investing in a cocktail hour. If anyone has any comments I would love to hear them.

2) What have you done for the rehearsal dinner? Is there a spot you would recommend where we could just reserve some tables at one of the restaurants. I think most of us will be staying at the Colonial area.

Thanks again for all your help!

Hi!

I got married this past June. We had 50 people attend. Our ceremony was on the beach right outside the Mariachi Grille, cocktail hour on the beach, and then the reception in the Mariachi Grille. We were not going to pay for a cocktail hour, but ended up getting it for free because the travel agency that we used gave us one for free as part of our package for working with them.

The rehearsal dinner process was a little annoying, but ended up working out. As we were told by our WC, we could reserve tables at a restaurant for only up to 25 people. Anything more than 25 you had to do it buffet style in one of the buffets at the resort. We ended up having 26 people at the rehearsal dinner and they let that slide to reserve a restaurant. We had it at the Santa Fe Steakhouse, which was very nice. However, it had to be a set menu where we had to pick exactly what everyone was eating. It was a very nice night, but I felt that it was kind of rushed so they could get us out of there.

Please let me know if you have any more questions and I can try to answer them as best as I can!

Christine

Hi there and welcome! I absolutely agree with @@kimmyd2 that Barcelo has one of the nicest beaches in that area. We've stayed at a few in the Mayan Riviera, including Barcelo, and their beach is ABSOLUTELY why we are going back for our beach wedding and beach reception. There are some resorts that may be a little more luxurious, but at the end of the day we are going for the wedding we envision for ourselves, not what the hotel rooms like! Don't get me wrong, Barcelo is a very nice resort all around! :)

There are indeed lots of extras that you can add, but if you are budget conscious and not having a huge wedding with a lot of people, I think you can happily stay within the package they build for you. Most brides seem to go with the Strawberry Passion package because it gives you the option of a beach reception. I think the 2016 costs for that is 4100 USD but it includes a lot of things. I commute to another city for work every week and don't have all of my documents handy right now, but I can send along all the documents, etc that I have so far when I get home this weekend. I don't have an updated 2016 wedding package price list because we booked ours under the 2015 prices, so perhaps one of the other brides here can help you with that, or just email the resort and ask for it because they tend to send that to you rather quickly.

Good luck with your planning and we are here to help if we can !! :)

Hi everyone! Has anyone had their reception at Playa Azul? My WC recommended that if our ceremony is going to be at Playa Azul then we should just keep it simple and have the reception there as well. But I'm worried about lighting. I wanted to move it to an area closer to a grill surrounded by palm trees so that we could at least dress the trees up with lights.

Thanks again :)

Good question SammyMac! I was wondering the same thing, but not for the lighting, just for the distance away from the hotel. I think I saw some pics that shows a reception at Playa Azul and there are indeed treat in the area, just not as many. I'll see if I can track that down again. Hopefully a bride can help confirm that or not!

I was also wondering if you've been in touch with Best Moments recently? I had contacted Martina to check out her services and asked her a few questions. Her prices are a little better than my currently company when I add a hair and makeup package (my hair is very short and almost not worth the extra money but I was looking for the whole experience) . I also mentioned the recent bad review she received from a bride in June (where she stood her up on her wedding day, nobody could track her down until hours before, and she didn't refund the money as promised) I told her it was concerning to me, but that I wasn't going to write someone off without having a chance to explain ... that was two weeks ago and NO response! You'd think you'd want to get back to a bride in that situation!? I am going to fire off another email to see what she says but I may just stay with my current booking because the savings isn't worth the stress. Have you heard from them recently at all?

@@TaraW if it helps my WC mentioned that they will be providing guests transportation and it sounded to me like guests could leave anytime. She also told me Rancho Grande was nearby so instead of having a cocktail party I could send guests there. Still worried about the lighting, but she said it is fairly well lit up and maybe I'll get some tiki lights included. She sent me all of the docs on centerpieces, huppas, ribbons, etc. Did you decide to go with an outside vendor for chair ribbons? I was hoping they'd have more colours, but maybe I'll just go for white ribbons to keep things simple and save some money.

Martina was really good at responding to me. I put my deposit down a couple of weeks ago and I told her I'd be in touch when I knew when my rehearsal dinner was going to be scheduled so that we could do the trial run then. I found her really responsive, but it does make me nervous that a bride was left high and dry. If she responds to your question about that situation could you let me know?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else.
