@@cvincent84 Thank you so much for the thorough response! I hadn't even thought about using an outside DJ! With just over a month to go I'm nervous and don't want to make any big changes, so I think I'll stick with the resort DJ. I am definitely considering the styling trio :) I'm leaning towards nixing the official cocktail hour and mariachi band, and going to the lobby bar like you suggested. It seems like a lot of people stuck with that plan and it was fine. I'm wondering if I could get the acoustic guitarist to play at the bar for the hour? (Wonder what THAT charge is....).

We are planning on a beach ceremony (Capitan Morgan?) and poolside reception (Cocos?)..but having not been there and basing the decision off one photo is tough! Anyone have any suggestions on best beach and poolside locations? I'm also wondering if there is any type of overhead for the poolside or if its all in the open.. there would be no need for hanging decorations then ;) If anyone can share photos of their setup/decor for ceremony on the beach or poolside reception I would be SO appreciative! I've been scouring the different photography sites trying to get little bits and pieces :) Also- how did you all take care of handing out welcome bags? We are bringing them, but the resort charges $3 per bag to deliver for you (huh??).

Thanks again!! Loving reading through all the replies previously!

No problem! I bet you could hire the guitar player. He was super good, but no idea on the price. I'm sure it's more expensive then what you would think but for sure cheaper then a mariachi band! I'm SURE the resort DJ will be fine. I would recommend getting a list of song you want played, if they are playing music you like they can't go too wrong!

Instead of having the resort hand out bags as people came in, why don't you just deliver them your self? You'll be seeing everyone at one point or another anyway! The resort has a fee for everything...geesh. I got married at the Palace so I can't say much about the Maya locations but I can't think of how they would hang anything near the pool. But who knows!

I posted this before but if anyone wants to see my pictures from my wedding in June at the Palace, just my friends and family photos right now, feel free to add me my on Facebook - Chelsea McFarlane (Vincent). :) Just send me a quick message saying your from here and I'll add you.

We are bringing our own ipod for both the ceremony and the reception. We aren't adding any time to our reception as we figure we will all move to the lobby bar then to Jaguars Disco for more dancing for those who want to.

Out of all the beaches I would say Playa Azul and Captain Morgan have the best sand.  Playa Azul is definitely the most private but Captain Morgan is at least more secluded from Colonial, Tropical and Palace. There is a peninsula that separates the beaches of those 3 and the beaches of Beach and Caribe (where Capt Mo is). Coco Bar is at the Palace and is quite a large area which is nice and at night when the pool is all lit up, it is very neat.

I would definitely look at handing out your own bags etc, as the costs add up.  The hotel will be able to give you a list of all the rooms, or have a night where everyone meets at the lobby bar!

@@bluecastr1 Even though I have the Strawberry Passion Package, I have hired an outside team to do my hair and makeup (read TOO many mixed reviews on the resort's salon), and it really isn't that expensive to hire an outside hair and makeup team. I am not doing a cocktail hour (but I am extending reception for 1 extra hour). I also have hired Ivan Luckie as my photographer. As for a DJ, I am still in the works of booking one (they have been slow to e-mail back!) Our reception and ceremony is going to be at Playa Azul.

Hi everyone!! So it's 10 days until we head down to Mexico!!! And the wedding is on oct 29 :D at 3pm!! Super excited!!!

I left all the flowers to finalize down there... Because it was too hard to plan based on the pictures that were sent to me, and also I am pretty set based on pictures for the palmeras beach for the reception at 5:30pm, and the grill as the backup if it's raining but the weather looks good!! And then the only thing that's undecided is where the ceremony will be. I am still unsure of the coral beach but we shall seeee!!!

We are bringing down our own centrepiece stuff, and topper, as well as gifts to the bridal party, and guest book, message in a bottle (advice to the bride and groom cards). Last thing we are doing is just play lists for the iPod :)

We are super excited!!!!! And I will be sure to post pictures and check here before our second week honeymoon and playa mujeres :)

They put candles on the tables and we had petals on ours - not sure if they always do that.  It was kind of strange because my WC came with a bag of rose petals.  Chair covers are bows - you pick the color when you arrive and I'm not sure about runners for the reception.  I had floral arrangements and the table names on each table - along with the menu.  Flying lanterns/Chinese wishing lanterns are not allowed.  We did sparklers and had no issues.

@@gilmana Did you purchase the sparklers in Mexico? I just called Southwest Airlines, and they said TSA prohibits fireworks/sparklers on the aircraft..I would love to bring them but I don't want to buy them and end up having them be thrown out. Any other brides bring them with?

@@bluecastr1 My parents-in-law bought them in Mexico City and brought them to the Barcelo. I understand that you wouldn't be able to take them on the plane but maybe packed in your luggage?  I would double check.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
