Hey everyone,

Just a quick question- Tania, my WC told me that normal Tiffany Chairs will be 10$/chair... Does this seem high to anyone else? I could understand 5$ or even 8$ but 10$?! I have 50 people coming and I feel like it seems a little ridiculous to spend 500$ on chairs.

Hey ladies!

I'm just over four months away now from my June 12, '14 wedding date! I can't believe how fast time is going now! Are there any other brides getting married between June 7-14th?

Two questions...someone asked this earlier but I didn't see a response, but how are people getting their dresses down there? Mine is a pretty full ball gown too (I know, crazy for a beach wedding but I loved it so I don't care ;)) ...do I try and pack it in a suit case or just carry it on and hope there's a place for it on the plane? Someone told me I should put it in one of those vacuum sealed bags. Just let it out the moment you're there and let the humidity get the wrinkles out. Yikes! No clue!

Also, how do people pay for the big bill when they get down to Mexico? What's the easiest/cheapest way? Credit card, cash (though I would hate to bring that much cash??), travel checks?

Thinking about all these small details are making my head spin!

Hello past and new brides...

Has anyone dealt with Xhail? It has been about 6 weeks since her last email to me and I have emailed her numerous times asking questions.

Another question I have.. I was sent pictures of the flower options. Are these options just for the bridal bouquet or the bridesmaids bouquets as well?

Thanks in advance!

I have Xhail as a W/C...she is definitely hard to get ahold of but I kind of hear that for everyone. She's pretty nice and helpful though so I think they are just super busy. If your wedding is really far out, I'm guessing she's getting to your email last. She usually responds to my emails though within a week and a half...yea a long time but oh well...I have a little time to wait I guess. If it's been 6 weeks though she should have responded. I would send another email just asking if she received your email and had time to answer your questions.

The options for the flowers are for both the bride and the bridesmaids...for example I choose one bouquet from the list and told her I want my bridesmaid to have a matching bouquet but smaller and she's getting it done. :)

Hey everyone,

Just wondering what people have received for decorating options? I don't want to haul centerpiece stuff down there, what has the hotel offered you in terms of decorations, centerpieces etc

Have you gotten to the centerpieces/bouquets/decorations step yet? That's when they will send you all the options. I believe they are somewhat customizable as well, as I have asked for different options and have been sent other ideas. Those come with a cost though. $10 a piece for different chairs, orchids are $25 a stem, etc.

Hello fellow brides,

I just got back from my wedding, and thought it's only proper to write a review right away, since I found it so useful to read other people's reviews when I was preparing for my own wedding.

My now husband proposed to me back in July, and we were married on January 31, 2014 at the Barcelo Maya Tropical resort. I sent out invitations mid August, and have them RSVP'd by mid November. We had 16 people in our wedding (very private), and used the Mint Breeze package. For the live music we used the Sax (it was accompanied by the keyboards, which was a bonus), it was absolutely amazing! we had 4 songs (one for the groom, and all the wedding party, one for me, one for the signing of documents, and one at the end; you can pick the timings yourself). For the songs I picked as follows: Songbird by Kenny G; Unchained melody; Besame mucho; and Somos Novios.. all very romantic, and brough both myself and my fiancee in tears.

The minister spoke perfect english, and the ceremony was very beautiful. We had the legal ceremony, and did the blood work and all at the resort. My experience was very pleasant, the best and the less painfull blood work I've ever had in my life! I didn't even notice a pinch!

Our ceremony was at sunset, started at 5, went on till about 5:35-5:40, then we had some shots by the beach (the ceremony location was Palmeras beach at the Tropical hotel). The hotel staff block off the beach area just for the wedding, so there's no one wandering out and about. There were few people on the beach, also looking, and taking pictures but didn't bother me at all!

We also had the cocktail (it's not included in the package), but since it was only $16/pp for an hour and we only had 16ppl it was well worth the money spent (they set up a bar, Mexican themed appetizers (we picked), and music; all included in the price! great deal i found!)

For the reception we have moved to one of the conference rooms. When my WC Tania showed it to me few days before I was a bit disappointed, as it seemed a bit too dark, but when we walked in on the wedding day, it was everything and more what I have ever pictured. They set it up so nicely, it's unbelievable the transformation effect the room had!

Our colors were hot pink and orange, my bridesmaids were in purple, so very vibrant!

If i can give you an advice is to spend money on Hupa! best decision I've made, those flowers were absolutely gorgeous, fresh!

My and my bridesmaids bouquets were beautiful, colors vibrant!

We used Styling trio to do our hair and make up. I found Adrian and his helper absolutely amazing! those guys did fantastic job and we looked like we walked off the magazine cover (but natural at the same time).

For the photos, we used Jaime Glez photography. I will shortly write a full review on him and his wonderful wife Magda. They were absolutely amazing and their prices are so reasonable for the quality and the amount of pictures you receive! He covered the getting ready, ceremony, coctails, reception, and the following morning we had the 3 hrs of sunshine pictures!) we got the best of both worlds getting the sunset and bright sun pictures!

Oh, one more thing, we used the hotel DJ. I didn't mind him personally, but my fiancee didn't like him at all. We gave him a list of songs we wanted, he only played 25% of them, the rest he picked himself, and they weren't that great. I have also asked him to MC couple of games during the reception, he said it was the first time he had to do those, but I give him props for trying and doing a good job at it.

I'm sure I will later think of something else, if you have any questions please ask, I'll be happy to answer!

Hey ladies!

1.  We have been to 2 destination weddings and both times we flew with the bride/groom and both times they carried on their dresses with no problem. The vacume sealed bag is a good idea and it would be worth the investment to have the dress steamed there. After all you spent all that time on the dress so 50 bucks to steam in is worth it. (I too bought a ball gown) PS what if the bag gets lost by the airline with your dress in it? Ahh!

2. We asked our WC the same question as far as the payment is concerned. You can use credit/ debit cards but be sure to inform your bank that you will be out of the country. Take some cash but not the entire payment. My FI and I agreed that we would have the wedding paid in full before we leave ( at least a month) and pay for the "extras" while we are there. We don't want a huge bill to arrive and don't want issues with the final payment.

@@IrinaPatrick Thanks for the information!! Glad your wedding was a hit. Destination weddings involve so much uncertainty and it is reassuring to hear great feedback.

@@DevonAnn We too have selected Palmeras grill for our reception location. We loved the intimacy and elegance of the coral grill but as others have suggested and per Claudia this area gets HOT! Have you found photos of others receptions there? we are really banking of beautiful decorations as I am not pleased at the "Buffet look"

Makeup and Hair??

So originally I thought I heard pretty good things about the spa at the resort and I had decided on just getting my makeup and hair done there, especially since it's included in my package. But just recently I read some more reviews and I've seen some pretty horrible ones about the spa! Yikes! Now I'm worried...I hear everyone rave about Adrian but I really didn't want to spend another $600 some dollars on just make up and hair (or so I heard his prices are). Who did their make up and hair at the spa?? Was it an ok experience? I don't care that they don't speak english or that they may be a bit unorganized...I just don't want to look like a clown leaving the place. lol The make up is fixable and I'm comfortable doing that if need be...but I'm awful with hair and if it turns out to be a wreck...it won't be good. What's everyone else doing?? Who had experiences with the spa? Now I'm nervous!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
