For the rest of the trip they would have to use the facilities on their properties as the beach bar at the Palace won't serve them, and for the A la Carte's they can attend dinner with you but there's a $15 charge...when we went with two non palace guests they didn't end up charging them anything for dinner so we left the waiter a large tip :) we typically laid on the beach towards the colonial tropical because the entrance into the water was not so rocky and then everyone had access to drinks at the bar that was at the pool. If you have SUPER picky drinkers tell them to make sure they ask for the brand of drink they want and show their wrist band from the palace to get premium drinks, they should have no issue. We also liked the open air grill at the colonial/tropical area for lunch, it was close to the beach and quick to drop down and eat at.

Thanks!  This is very helpful.

I did end up hearing back from my coordinator about this question.  She said:

"They can coming at the Palace only for the ceremony and the reception, but between ceremony and reception after reception they can eat or drink at the Palace."

Our ceremony is at 4:00pm, and the reception is not until 6:30pm.  I had planned on having all of the guests meet at one of the Palace bars for a pre-reception drink in-between.  So, in-between the ceremony and the reception, would non-Palace guests be able to grab a drink or a snack at the Palace facilities?  The response from my coordinator kind of confused me, and I'm not entirely sure that she meant to say 'CAN'.

Let me know what you think.  Thanks again!

Vanessa

Hello,

Has anyone heard if you get 25 rooms booked, the 26th is free?  I think I have seen some people talk a bit about this. Does anyone know if this is a discount from BARCELO or is this set with through your travel agent? I have some people booking online for the wedding and others are going through our travel agent. Our travel says we only get the discount if we book through HER and not with BARCELO direct.  Does anyone know?

Good question Tiffany!

So my fiance and I are considering Barcelo Maya Palace for our wedding.  I LOVE the gazebo but are concerned that the location will not be very private.  Any advice on that?  Will there be random guests standing around watching our ceremony?  And what's the story with Azul Beach?  I have read that they no longer offer that location?

Did most of your guests stay at the Palace or at one of the other resorts?  Were you able to see everyone and hang out during the day?

Our coordinator said that our non palace people could not drink at the palace between our ceremony at 3:00 and reception at 5:30 but then the day of the wedding she said our guests could drink at the pool bar at the palace at not cost to us.

There were different deals like that put forward by different resorts and flight companies when we booked, make sure you get the full details from your travel agent on what you get from her. Sometimes it's the resort and sometimes it's the flight company that puts on the deal.

Most of our guests stayed at the colonial and we had absolutely no issues hanging out with them all the time. We typically laid on the beach closer to the colonial and had no issue with that, if we stayed at the palace then the non palace guests would have to go to their pool bar to get drinks and as far as us palace guests went we didn't mind getting drinks at the pool bar, it made no difference to us. I think you can still get married at playa Azul Beach there's just no palapa there, it is the beach furthest from the Palace, we were never interested in that beach for our ceremony or reception as it wasn't that spectacular to us. As far as the gazebo goes, I fell in love with it and HAD to get married there in it! No one stood around watching our wedding, they aren't seen in any of our pictures anyways, and in our video you can see people walk by but that's it. I know everyone says you'll never notice people looking and honestly you will not! People also move alone too! And don't be mistaken , people will also stand nearby or walk by on the beach too! I watched a speedo clad old man walk in front of someone's wedding ceremony on the beach twice! What a jerk!

We got a deal through our travel agent. I don't know if you get any sort of deal through the resort itself. For us, we booked at Carlson Waglit with Angie in Edmonton, and she said if we booked 16 guests, one of us got to stay for free (we still paid for some part of it, I just can't remember which). It ended up saving us about $1500! We only have 25 guests coming, so we didn't get the 'book 32 guests, get bride and groom free,' which would have been nice!! Oh well, it was awesome to get one free! Definitely shop around. Air Canada Vacations seems to have some big discounts for booking during particular parts of the year, and for bringing a certain number of people :)

I'm pretty sure it is through the airline/travel agent. we had every 16th person free with west jet and we were 1 person short in the end to get 2 free people so the airline gave us a deal and we only had to pay taxes on the one flight.

The gazebo is really nice but it is right off the lobby and the walk way to the buffet is right there too so people are constantly walking by. People just stop and gather around and start taking pictures. But there are locations on the beach that are even less private. Right smack in the middle of everything.Maybe pick a time that is less busy at the buffet so there isn't much traffic.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
