So I went through the whole booking process online and confirmed it tonight...prices have already changed!! Ugh..oh well it ended up being $300 for two nights at the Barcelo Beach, which is less than the $500 fee by far. I'm wondering if the time of year that you're booking for only allows 3 nights, because I definitely just booked for only two!

The Palace is all full for this May (1st-8th) and I still have guest that have booked flights but no hotel, now they have to stay at one of the other Barcelo's. Plus prices sky rocketed after we booked and never went back down... for all those people that think they can wait for last minute deals! Doesn't happen for this hotel!

Mel - Thanks so much! I'm planning to get married in May 2014 so I will let my guests know of this. When did you start booking for your airfare and hotel?

We start booking in July and I think prices stayed reasonable until about October. A bunch of people were waiting for deals in February, but by February the prices were almost double!

Ok, So Next week we leave on Tuesday morning for Mexico!! Our wedding is on March 22 @ 5. We went with the strawberry package. We are having our ceremony under the gazebo and our reception at the  grill palmeras. We are bringing our friends that do photography and videography and we are paying for their trip plus an additional $500 on top with still can in cheaper than any other package that we found in Mexico. Plus they will be taking picture through out the entire stay. We are going to have about 40 people attending the wedding. We didn't upgrade our wedding cake but I am getting an outside vendor to do a special surprise cake for the groom( www.zaidamarcos.com). I bought a cake topper off of etsy.com that just says Mr. & Mrs. Anderson. We payed for an outside Dj-Discomovilcancun-Ricardo. We were able to pay the entire balance through pay-pal. He also will bring his generator in for $200. Our wedding coordinator Victoria and she really has been pretty good on responding. At the beginning it was a little frustrating but the closer the wedding was getting the better she got about responding. We are having our rehearsal dinner off the premises of the hotel at Latitude 20.( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g153510-d2062067-Reviews-Restaurant_Latitude_20-Puerto_Aventuras_Yucatan_Peninsula.html) They have great reviews and they have been good on helping us make arrangements. We did get vans for everyone to be transferred back and fourth to and from the hotel. It was $6 a person round trip. For our OOT bags we bought koozies, cups, snacks, hand sanitizer, Alive, and a brochures made off of vista prints(http://www.vistaprint.com/custom-brochures.aspx?&GP=3%2f15%2f2013+11%3a30%3a23+AM&GPS=2774828104&GNF=0). We purchased our koozies and cups from http://www.discountfavors.com/. They turned our great and the price was good. I cant wait til we leave. Any advice or heads up from previous brides at Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe is greatly appreciated.

Julie I forgot to add the $77 is just the day pass. If you exceed your wedding package people then it's another $27 or $66 per person for the wedding reception. So you're paying two fee's for outside guests.
The $500 is for photography outside vendors, that's all, guests need day passes. For our wedding in november day passes were $95. then as was already said its the $27 or $66 per person (which is basically the cost for them to eat, they can attend all parts of the wedding). I paid the per person charge as it is calculated and put on to be paid with your wedding package. I informed my guests about the day passes to let them know that if they chose to stay elsewhere and attend they'd need to pay to be on the resort. this wasn't something I was offering to pay for them as it was their choice of where to stay and I didn't think that was unreasonable.

Congrats..it comes so fast! The only advice I have is to not stress about anything because the Barcelo is gorgeous and the wedding coordinators are amazing!

We had our wedding at 5pm also and it started to get dark about 5:45, although with daylight savings (I think Mexico has it same as US right? haha) you will have more light. We had to do pictures before and kind of rush afterwards to get pics in before dark. I would have done a 4pm wedding if possible but definitely glad we choose a later time as there were a lot less people on the beach and around the outside of the hotel in general (most people either getting ready or having dinner).

You definitely do not need to worry about adding more cake, especially since you are having another one. We did 2 tiers for 30 people and barely ate the smaller tier! The dinner is 4 courses, with a dessert, and SO much food. Luckily they brought the leftover cake to our room the next day and we brought it down to the lobby that night to have everyone help finish:)

Have an amazing and unforgettable time!!

Oh and..

the only issue we had was them coming in a timely manner to steam my dress. They were over 3 hours late and luckily we scheduled it early on the wedding day and it was done in time. So my advice is if you are planning to have them steam your dress schedule it in the morning the day of or even the night before to avoid any set backs or stress (we had to call down 3 times to get them to come up)!

This is one thing that definitely concerns me...on 'island time' is pretty much how things run in mexico from what I hear. That's all well and good if you're just on holiday, but that's the last thing a bride wants on her wedding day!!!! Did you find the timing was poor on anything else??

We did have a little late start to the ceremony (only about 20 mins) because they picked guests up in a shuttle to go from the palace to playa azul and there wasn't enough room so they had to make two trips. This wasn't a big deal because I feel like ceremonies hardly start right on time:)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
