You just need to show the resort that you have booked your trip. Then they will hold a spot for you.

Hello Brides...and now wives,

Reading all your comments has been so very helpful!! I have a few questions. At what point did you start planning where the wedding ceremony and reception is at? My wedding is June 12, 2013 I tried planning things with my WC mooooonths ago however they told me they deal with a lot of weddings and they would contact me in the new year. It is now almost march and I finally got someone to respond to me yesterday. I am concerned I will not have my choice for venues. For those of you that have the strawberry package where did you have the reception??

Barcelo is a beautiful resort but I just now decided to book another resort and move my entire group of 40 to Dreams Riviera Cancun last minute and it's been stressful but now my wedding has to be on the 21st. My mom

Finally called Ruth bc she always so relaxed about everything and I wanted to confirm a few things. When we called she told me all the outside locations have been booked except for one, this made me so upset. She didn't even tell me anything about picking locations. They make it sound like you pick everything last minute and I was always emailing and asking questions. Then she said the back up room was the banquet room and wouldn't budge!. Which doesn't make since to pay double almost triple and if it rains to be stuck in the same room as if we paid for mint breeze.

I've talked to say many helpful brides who have had beautiful weddings there and gave me great tips. When I brought anything up to Ruth she told my mom "they don't drive that way at the resort" I didn't like what I was hearing and when I said well I might change resorts to try and get her to jump a little, she said ok. As if no big deal. I had all 40/50 guest staying at the Palace so it's crazy to me that they don't care to lose the business.

Also at the resort if your guest are not paying for preferred VIP, they don't get room service, they don't get premium liquor, and can only eat at the restaurants once every two nights!

I thought that was a little ridiculous!

Anyways best of luck to all you Brides, no matter what Barcelo is a BEAUTIFUL resort and I've seen some amazing weddings there!! But if you have Ruth, I would try to change WC.

Oh no!! Sorry to hear that it went so bad for you!! I have Ruth has my WC....and now I am a little nervois. I havent heard anyone really talk about Ruth so I dont know how good she is.  My wedding is Nov 11th... I have hardly heard from her at all yet.  I dont know anything about this preferred VIP. What is this and how much is it extra?

It is all preference, like so many things with the whole wedding planning! I wouldn't be too concerned about the premium or as you referred to it as preferred vip, if people want premium alcohol and room service they can upgrade themselves...most of our guests stayed at the Barcelo Colonial and that meant no premium for them and no room service but no one cared anyway, they could still access food and TONS of liquor options (great choices too, not only crappy brands) whenever they wanted and were fine with that. I think us (Bride and Groom) and two other people were the only ones who ever accessed room service and that was only because we could and it was fun, the room service list you can order off of isn't extensive either, late night I would order plain spaghetti with butter and parmesan because I was a vegetarian and it was my only available option.

Here is a link that explains what club premium is  http://www.barcelo.com/BarceloHotels/en_GB/hotels/Mexico/Riviera-Maya/hotel-barcelo-maya-beach/club-premium.aspx

Our wedding was in November as well. I had to provide our confirmation number that our trip was booked (at least the bride and grooms trip has to be confirmed) and then once that was done they slowly planned everything with me. I just looked back in my email and I forwarded on my confirmed travel info to them and the initial email that started my planning was Feb 28th. It wasn't a fast process but everything WILL get planned and as far as my wedding was concerned, everything turned out more than we imagined it would!

I am happy to share and help with whatever I can, so if you have any questions just ask!

Happy Planning!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
