For us, the beach reception was a must. I completely understand if people don't have the extra money to do it.  Even though with 71 people it cost us an extra $3K-$4K we felt like people sacrificed so much time and money to be there that they deserved something spectacular. Plus, it's pretty cool to say you had a reception on the beach :)

Hint: If you're struggling with paying for the wedding Capital One has a 15 month 0% interest credit card with no APR. It also has no international transaction fees. We swiped our whole wedding and divided it by 15. Made life a lot easier.

I would have just thought that the outside reception was going to be part of the fixed cost not what we had to pay per person. I agree with you on people making the sacrifice to be there and pay money part. I would thought that since it was $39 dollars more per person that we are spending that our guest should get something out of it other than a menu change. Not a big deal we will deal with it. I just thought maybe since its $66 that the bar stays open and extra hour for them or something in that sense.

Upcoming Brides and Future Brides-

I was on the forum reading a review of a wedding at Barcelo and the girl mentioned that they did their rehearsal dinner at a place called Tirami...su in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico which is about 15 miles from the hotel. The owner name is Donna and she in from the U.S and has been in Puerto Aventuras for about 15 years. I contacted her to do our rehearsal dinner at the restaurant to do something different and away from the hotel. When I contacted her I informed that I would like to have our rehearsal dinner there she asked me a few question, how many people, what price range I wanted to stay in, and if we needed transportation? I told her about 35 people and I would like to stay between $13-18 and transportation would be needed. She sent me over a menu with a verity of options and she would send vans to pick us up for $6 a person. Well as I contacted her yesterday come to find out she is a pleasure to talk to and work with she also knows a lot about the area. She has a ton of connections to all areas of planning weddings. She even does weddings and receptions at the restaurant not to mention she is a minister!!! I would recommend looking into the restaurant for a rehearsal dinner and if you wanted she could help with parts to all of your wedding needs (DJ, Photographer, Videographer, Flowers, cakes, locations, food, Officiate..ect.)

Here is her information.

we originally booked Coral beach but our party got too big. I'll be honest, when we got there I wasn't overly impressed anyway. I would choose Playa Azul or Palermas Beach. Coral beach is OK but the trees and shrubs block your view of the ocean and you also don't have any access to the water. The other two are wide open offering beautiful views and access to the water.

Based on pictures and the privacy I think Playa Azul would be the best place for both the ceremony and reception. The only negative I have heard is that it is pretty far from the hotel and you have to take a shuttle.

Do you think it would work to have the ceremony at Playa Azul and then the reception at the Palace or one of the other banquet rooms (I chose the mint breeze package so the reception has to be in a banquet room)? Where is Playa Azul located in relation to the palace?

I keep hearing that you can go look at each location and chose when you get there. I would just be worried if there is another wedding the same day and not having my first pick :)

They all wore Linen pants from Le Chateau.  We did have them pressed (and hemmed) the day before at the resort (because some people didn't think they needed their pants hemmed when I mentioned it months before  :P).   My FI and his best man did, I'm actually not sure if the other  two had their pants pressed.  If you hang them up once you get there, it's humid enough that you shouldn't need to.  I had my dress packed in a suitcase, and I just hung it up and it was fine, I didn't need to get it steamed.

We did Playa Azul ceremony, playa Palmarus reception.  It was perfect.  Private for the ceremony, the beach is deserted at night, so it was still private for the reception and close.  I think there was a discussion about this a few pages back.  Don't be afraid to use the search this thread function. :)

I have pictures of both on my planning thread.

Thanks Avens for all the input, its really nice to have brides that already had their wedding on here!

I wanted to share a funny and ironic story..

The other day I was getting my nails done and the woman doing my nails was saying how her sister just got married in Mexico. Guess where of all the places? Barcelo! We talked for awhile about her experience and overall she said the wedding was amazing and the palace was gorgeous and so worth the extra money. She said that the staff really treated the wedding guests great and made everything really fun with special drinks etc. It did rain on the wedding day but she said that they quickly changed the location to an indoor one that was still very pretty and they had a great time.

Nice to hear how a guest/member of the wedding party felt about the wedding. A little different perspective: ).  I am sure the little details we focus on no one would notice haha!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
