beachbride22 we are getting married 2 days before you! Maybe we will see you down there :D It's coming up really quick now, we leave in a week. I can't wait!

I made a lot of my own decorations that I am bringing with us (place cards etc). I wanted to save money where I could and I also didnt want anythign too bulky for carrying on the plane.

We also have some guests who are not staying at the palace, but we are still planning to have 'cocktail hour' at the carey bar. I guess we will have to wait and see what they say, but it is my understanding that the guests are granted a day pass to the palace for the wedding.

Thanks for the advice :)  Yes, I agree- placecards are a must.  What other sorts of decorations did you bring down?  I have a lot of ideas- but I don't want my suitcase to be overloaded!  Did you bring any lightweight items that helped the decoration process?  I am not sure how much decorations are provided except centerpieces that I pick out.

How exciting!!  What time are you getting married on the 26th?  Is it on the beach?  It's coming up soon!  You must be going down there for 2-3 weeks since you're leaving next week already.  That will be so nice!

What other decorations are you bringing besides placecards?  I've seen the cutest ideas online for DIY crafts, but I don't know if I'll have room in my suitcase.  Do you know how much decoration Barcelo provides?  From what I can tell, it's just centerpieces.

By the way- i posted a couple of other threads but they're being held for "moderation" because I'm new.

I need ideas for LIGHTWEIGHT deocroations on a plane... it's a lot harder than I thought!

Yes, we plan on doing welcome packages... but we also have wedding party gifts we'll be giving out.  What kinds of things are you guys bringing for welcome packages?  We really want to do Bubba Kegs, but we don't know if there will be enough room in our suitcase for everything.  I also wanted to have a little "print off" of everything going on...not so much an itinerary- just something people can reference to and know what time everything is, and where! (rehearsal dinner, wedding, appointments, etc)

My travel agents name is Marci. I'll private message you her info.

Her travel agency has a rep working at the Palace so she definitely gets whatever you need. She's also great because her philosophy is "whenever your guests are ready to book, have them compare all of the travel sites for the best deal that day and I'll match it". There are a few advantages to this:

1. Everyone books under one group meaning you'll get credit towards free rooms

2. Your guests are booking when it's convenient for them

3. Your guests are guaranteed the best rate they can find on that particular day.

4. You have the travel protection of using a travel agent. If you're not happy with something you can call her and she'll take care of it.

We also just used her for our honeymoon in St. Lucia. She got us an upgraded room for the price of a standard room.

Tell her Dan and Jamie sent you!

I'm very excited!  We finally decided on the Barcelo Maya Palace last weekend and got our confirmation today!  We've been engaged since September 2011 and did a site visit (among many) in January... and now we're finally getting somewhere! January 14, 2013!!

I've read so much already, so thank you for those who have contributed!  It helped make my decision.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
