We did not get airfare quotes for our guests - just the group rates. 7 days/6 nights, our cost was $1028 per person for the Palace and this included transfers to and from the airport to the hotel.  We got our airfare on our own and used our miles for that so I only paid $40.  We were originally quoted a slightly higher price, but I signed up on Barcelo.com as a preferred customer (it is free) so I was able to see any specials/deals they were running.  I found a lower price a few months later, contacted Wendy and she was able to get them to honor the lower price.

Thanks everyone, I was feeling very discouraged yesterday as I had my heart set on the Palace.

I am going to check out expedia and orbitz soon, the prices haven't come out yet for then though. I have never heard of Apple Vacations but i will check it out.  I don't think it's school break then, I know my daughters school is March and we are wanting to go Feb 5-19.  I am going to ask another travel agent too and see if that helps.

Hopefully we can find some way and better prices to make it work, I looked at other places yesterday  that where beautiful but they don't compare when it comes to all of the things Barcelo has especially for kids. Our daughter is the most important part so I want her to have fun and be happy.

Check out the barcelo website and join the MyBarcelo club. I have been to the resort several times and I find this to be the cheapest way to go. Its free to join and the prices are quoted per room and not per person like orbitz and the other travel sites. This is how we booked our wedding and the best part is the earlier you book the cheaper it is (We received 30% off for booking early). You can book your shuttle from the airport through them as well, but I find that chartering a private shuttle is cheaper and you don't have to pay per person either! Hope this gives you a little insight and hope of making your palace wedding a reality!

We were given the same quote through Transat. They told us that between February and March is the most expensive time (high season) to go down to Mexico becasue it is reading week/spring break.

This is probably true!

We went Jan 7-14th 2012.  Our cheapest rate was through Air Canada (via Winnipeg and Edmonton).

One week plus airfare and transfer was $1600 from Winnipeg (1680 from Edmonton).  We booked and confirmed (with ten people) in October of 2010 - then had everyone else add on until about October. Sometime in the summer - the price went up to $1640 - but otherwise stayed the same.

West Jet I think is usually cheaper - but the way they do group rates is different, and I think you need everyone ready to go then.  This one was good - as long as there was room on the plane, people could keep adding.  It was also nice - because the deposits were transferable until Oct 30th, 2011.  So we had a few break ups, getting pregnants etc - and we could transfer the deposit to someone else who wanted to go - and the original person go their money back.

We are confirmed for November 29th and now get to start the rest of our planning! YAY!

Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on the different instruments avaialble, what did you use and what did you think of it.

I am planning on walking down the aisle to Canon in D and there is the option of saxophone, violin, flute or keyboard and bass and I have no idea what to pick as a combination of instruments is usually what you find when listening to Canon in D.

Like danandjamie, we had the violinist and she did fabulous.  We had Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Canon in D, a song while we did our sand ceremony (not sure what it was but it was a lovely choice) and All You Need is Love by the Beatles.  She was great with all of them!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
