kisekae, there is a Wal-Mart near Playa del Carmen and I have seen flameless candles at Wal-Mart's in the US.  There is a gift shop at Barcelo and other brides have purchased maracas there for a reasonable price.

Has anyone had experience getting flameless candles or maracas while in Mexico before the wedding? We've heard it's better than packing it all there, but I have no idea where to find such things, and don't want to get ripped off!!

Also, does anyone know if there are options for chairs WITHOUT chair covers? And what the cost would be to do this.

Thank you all soooo much, I love hearing from all the other brides, this site has literally saved me

Yes there is a shopping area at the Barcelo and I've chatted with past brides that picked them up there.  Just not sure how many they carry in the store, but I would assume if you went right away and they didnt have enough, I bet they would get more for you. (seems they really want to keep the $ inside the resort) :) Otherwise... 5th Ave in Playa Del Carmen is 20 minutes away, you could go to market and find some there! Best wishes to you all.

Thanks for the maraca tips ladies, i'm also planning on that so it's great to know I can just pick them up there and not worry about more stuff to bring with us!!!  So helpful!  Has anyone had their hair and make up done by the spa at the resort??  I know i've heard a lot of good things about adrian and his staff but he seems a little pricey so I wanted to try and compare with the stylists they have on hand.  Any suggestions would be great :)

On my wedding day I had my hair and makeup done by Adrian and his team. Yes it was expensive but they are true professionals. The price includes a trial run which is a nice touch, I used it for my rehearsal/welcome dinner. My makeup lasted all day and night and I absolutely loved my hair. The team also did a wonderful job on my mum and MOH, they both looked wonderful and were so happy with their hair and makeup.

I used the Barcelo spa for my hair and makeup the following day for our Trash the Dress shoot and I have to admit I thought they did an amazing job, almost as good as the wedding day and I would definitely recommend them. My advice though would be to bring LOADS of pictures of what you want. As this was for TTD I didn't care so much so just turned up the morning of and flicked through some magazines (I was totally not organized or prepared, was exhausted after wedding and perhaps had a teeney hangover, LOL!) but the girl there did a lovely job. With Adrian you didn't have the language barrier as an issue plus you were able to discuss in detail the look you were after. Now saying that I just sat in the chair and the Barcelo spa and let them do their thing and they did great!

I have no professional photos yet (big heavy sigh), but once I get them I will post a full review.

I can dig out some pics my guests took on the wedding day so you can get an idea of the hair and makeup from Adrian but I think the pro pictures will do them better justice.

I have just one picture of the TTD that my sister took as I was leaving for the shoot, and I will try posting that too so you can see the work from the Barcelo Spa.

In the gift shop at the Tropical, Maracas were two for about $3. I didn't see them at the Palace ( I wasn't really looking for them though).  Probably easier to just buy them there!

The spa did a great job for me as well.  I agree with Joanne, bring pictures! I did for my hair and they did a fantastic job.  It even looked great the next day for the TTD.  I didn't bring pictures for make up - so it wasn't quite what I had in mind, but I gave her no guidance. They did an awesome job on my sisters make up. Her eyes looked great.

I'll try and find some pictures!

Holls213, I am getting married February 11th and my WC has made the appointment for me already.  She has also scheduled my mani/pedi and massage.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
