Thanks for the info! I would prefer to go with the resort DJ so I don't have to go through the hassle of bringing one in. Sorry I just have a couple more questions for you. Do you know what the $1,208 all includes at the resort? And is that for only 2hrs. I was quoted $1,290 from DJ mannia that includes the light up dancefloor, robotic lights and the DJ service for 4 hours. I would hate to have to pay an extra $610.00 for 2 more hours on top of the 1,208. It might be worth paying the extra fees to bring in an outside DJ. so confused.

I choose the Strawberry package so we would be able to have a reception on the beach. This was the smallest package that would allow a beach reception.  so, if that doesn't matter to you then I would go with the cheaper ones.

I have not booked at barcelo yet, but It has become top on my list. I was looking into the azul sensatori but their prices and vendor fees are becoming crazy high.  I am working with destinationweddings.com and my coordinator is trying to stear me away from barcelo and it is making me nervous now about possibly choosing this resort, but when I read all of your reviews it sounds so fabulous! I am kind of wondering if it has anything to do with pricing and how she gets paid, since she does get paid through the resorts.

The $1208 is for the light-up dance floor. Then you have to pay $610 for two hours and $150 per hour after that for the resort DJ.

I am hiring DJ Mannia. I spoke to my coordinator and she said I do not have to pay additional fees to have him. At first she tried to say that I would have to pay $100 fee per hour but then I emailed her and said who the DJ was and she said I didn't have to pay an additional fee. I would email your coordinator and find out. I think he may need to bring a generator with him. It's $100 for 4 hours if so. Hope this helps!

I just looked at my bill from Barcelo and you are right Silvajen.  I got charged $610 for the first 2 hours and $150 for each hour after that for the resort DJ.  DJ mannia seems like a really good value if $1,290 includes the service + the light up floor!  Does DJ mannia count the hour everyone is eating dinner towards the 4 hours included in the package?  The resort DJ plays background music during dinner but this does not count as part of the 2 hours of service.

Schmieding - I am pretty sure you are right about Barcelo and how she gets paid. I read a while ago that Barcelo stopped giving kickbacks to travel agents. Here's one industry article about that:

We have shot weddings at both and honestly, I would recommend Barcelo hands down. I love Sensatori (rooms, photo ops, spa, pool), it is beaufiful but so much smaller and they do SO many weddings. One wedding we shot there there were four other couples at the same time! Barcelo is so much bigger and you don't feel like "one of the many". Plus the beach is waaaaaaaaaaaay nicer! :)

thank you so much for this! I am trying to pick a resort and I feel like this is the hardest part. There is always such a push and pull when you hear every ones opinions on the resorts. This forum makes the barcelo sound like a great place to get married so when I got a negative remark about it from DW.com I felt like I was back to square one on finding a resort.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
