Hi girls thanks for all your help on the outside photographer rules etc.. Victoria has just got back to me also to confirm. Yes a guest can take pix if staying at the hotel. If they are just coming in for the day to take pix then there is a $300 fee to pay. (so go with whatever works out the cheapest). She also said there is no fee for guests to attend the wedding at the Palace if they are staying in one of the other onsite hotels :o).. clears alot of questions up!!

Hi everyone,

does anyone know what package allows you to have your reception at the palmaras grill?  I have sent an email to my WC but it has been a couple weeks with no response.

Thanks,

J

I believe you have to get the Strawberry Passion package or higher to have your reception in the Palmeras Grill. It's considered the same as having a private beach reception (just another option as far as locations go)

Thanks!

We're doing a legal ceremony 1st June - dont really know much about them though to be honest.

BEWARE: I have been planning my wedding at the Barcelo Maya Palace since February of 2010.  I'm getting married on October 1, 2010. We purchased the Strawberry Passion Catholic package and the planning format has always stated $3180 for the package (excluding the Priest's $200 fee).  All of the sudden on 9/16/10, Xhail sent me my LAST planning format for approval and the package price was increased to $3,650.  I'm waiting to hear why they increased it by almost $500 just 2 weeks before my wedding! I will let you know what she says, but I think this is a total scam.  She didn't mention the increase on the email when she sent it either, I just happened to notice it.

That's wierd- I would definitely call out the change and cite my previous emails.  How responsive has Xhail been?  I have Gabriela and my wedding is October 16, 2010.  I've only gotten Gabriela to respond enough to get my through my itinerary, cermony, location and menu.  Tables, rehearsal dinner, reception music, spa appts, etc have not all been planned yet.  She has not responded to my email from 9/8 yet.  I just sent her an email this morning saying we are less than a month away and tacticfully said "her lack of responsiveness has been ridiculous and I would like to get the rest of wedding planned asap".

I'm not too worried based on other comments of everything working out once onsite, but I will be rather pissy if I don't get my initial choices for some things.  Have you been having this issue?

We are doing a symbolic ceremony. I wanted to do a legal ceremony, but because this is a second marriage for me there are a lot more requirements. The wedding has to be at least 300 days from the date of the divorce certificate, and because mine took so long there will not be enough time in between :(  This rule is for divorced women only, it does not apply to divorced men, which I find very silly. Also, if you are a divorced woman and want to marry in Mexico, you have to prove that you are not pregnant.  Not sure what this rule is for.  I would also have to have my divorce certificate transferred to Spanish, on top of all the other documents and bloodwork. So needless to say a legal ceremony was out of the question for us. We will be getting legally married in Canada before we go with only the 2 witnesses needed. But my "real" wedding day will always be in my heart the day we get married in Mexico :) The day I make the commitment in front of my friends and family is what makes it count! It doesn't matter to me when or where the paper work is done.

So, there's my story on legal vs. symbollic!

Ok, I got a response from her. She said she accidentally put the 2011 price on my plan.  I don't know if that's the truth, but I'll go with it.

I feel like this resort nickel and dime's people, but what can you do.  After everyone books their trip, it's hard to change your mind.

Just venting a little, I'm sure the wedding will turn out great  :-)

Xhail has been pretty good about responding to emails.  Sometimes, it takes her a while.  Regarding the planning left to do, I would be upset also.  That is not alot of time to finish up the last of your plans.  I hope you get a better response.

We had to give our WC the cash for the officiant and mariachi band right after we met with her to plan everything. She then took us to the front desk of the Palace and we then put the remaining balance on our credit card.

From what I've read on the "unofficial barcelo maya" website, you pay for your wedding right after you meet with your WC and decide on any extras etc...As far as forms of payment they take VISA, MC, Amex, and Travelers cheques.

Extra fees for credit cards: Some CC's charge you an International Fee and it can be up to 3% of your total. This varies from credit card to credit card. You will also may not get the rate of that day, as it gets posted a few days later and it may have gone up...or down!

Cash for officiant: This is included in your package price, but you have to pay for the officiant separate and it has to be in cash. I.e. If you wedding package is $2000 and the officiant is $300 then you pay the balance - $1700- to the resort and give the officiant his money the day of the wedding.

You will also need to have cash for extras like Mariachi band ($400 I believe), and blood work (for legal wedding), if required.

Hope this helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
