update on my end...someone had the same wedding date and time booked as me.

I emailed Claudia and she she responded saying she has 3pm available. So I went ahead and booked the 3pm slot even though my cards say 5pm. :(

3pm actually works out better because then we have some daylight to take pictures before the sun goes down around 5:30.

Hey Ladies! I'm also getting married at Barcelo (but at the Tropical) Feb 25th, 2011. I was nervous about booking an outside photographer because of their ever changing policies they seem to have but went for it anyway! Booked Ivan Luckie and have had great communication with his thus far.

Photocaribe was amateur at best. I've been following the unnofficialbarcelomaya website on this very topic and was curious about the new photog's portfolio as well...seems like "more of the same", all be it a bit better, but for their prices you could hire an outsider and do a TTD or engagement session for just a bit more! What does everyone else think of their portfolio thus far??

I also agree the new photographers seem about the same quality as the old ones. I am starting to think I might hire an outside photographer as well. What is the latest policy on bringing in outside photographers? I have heard some people say they had to pay the in house photographers a $300 fee, and some people say they have to pay for a night stay at the Barcelo so they are considered a guest. How much is a one night stay?

The latest word from Claudia is that as long as they're a guest of the wedding, it's no problem bringing in an outside photog. So I guess you just have to pay for a night or two...totally worth it, in my opinion.

Claudia just sent me the menu options for the reception. I'm having THE hardest time picking the same thing for all of my guests to eat! I'm a totally boring food person (I like to stick with chicken, bland flavors, etc) and so what looks good to me might not look good to my guests!

I'm leaning toward this selection:

Caesar salad

Asparagus soup

Pepper and Citric Crusted Rack of Lamb with Mashed Potatoes

Luke Warm half-baked dark chocolate fondant

And, of course, the cake: strawberry flavor.

I figure, if anyone doesn't like the dinner selections, they can always go eat at one of the buffets after the reception! Gotta love an all-inclusive!

you can choose. 2 nights stay - where i am double occupency because of the photog and assistant it's 600cad for 2 nights and thats meals etc included...... or  a 300USD fee for outside photographer + 2 day passes @ 130.00USD each for the palace! so 560USD for 1 day or the photogs can do 600cad for 2 full days of meals drink etc.. so i went with the 2 nights stay ( i just booked them at the lower hotel the caribe i think)

Seriously! I know my photogs aren't going to stay anyway, since they're located in Playa del Carmen, so it doesn't make sense to have to pay for 2 nights stay for them...sigh.

I booked an outside photographer for March and I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it either. (Whether it's pay the $300 or book a one night stay).  I emailed my WC asking about the rules on an outside photographer and all she replied with was "as long as they're a guest". I emailed back asking if they had to stay one or two nights and got no response. So I'm not paying for a two-night stay. I can see that getting pretty expensive and my photographer is from the area too so I know he won't be staying. Such as a stupid rule. However, I guess I can't complain too much, atleast there are ways around it.

nmurch: Did you get that info. from your WC?

Hi Ladies,

I emailed Gabriel last week and asked about the 2 night policy for outside photographers. I didn't ask about buying off the resort photographer but she did say that it has to be a 2 night stay for them to count as "guests".  Our photographers are based in Playa, so I'll just use the room as an extra for any off resort guests...

Hope this helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
