January 2009 Brides Post Here

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies,

I have been itching to join this thread but have been super busy with work! Bill and I (Kate) are getting married on 1.23.09 at Playa Fiesta in Puerto Vallarta.

So Far I have:

1. The Location, Playa Fiesta which comes with Lindsay the wedding planner. This is so nice because I can arrange everything through her. The DJ, Ceremony, decorations, etc. Lindsay and her husband own the place and all they do is weddings, and they are from CA so I can call them on a US cell phone, priceless.

2. The photographer, Elizabeth Medina, is booked. They have "in house" photographers at PF, but Elizabeth is how I found PF so I insisted. I love her!

3. The Website, katelynnandbill.com is complete. I will add info up until and after the wedding but the hard stuff is out of the way, thank GOD!

4. The Dress, found it in California, Mon Amie Bridal Salon- awesome, ask for Caitlin, so many beautiful dresses! I brought my mom out there for mothers day to visit my sister who lives in LA... Mon Amie was the first store I went to. They were actually having a trunk show so I am getting a one of a kind Augusta Jones dress, it is kind of a combination of a bunch of AJ dresses. Hahaha. It is girly and floofy but I love it, and my mom cried so that was it!!!

5. THE BM Dresses, I am having my sister, and Bill's sister and sister-in-law stand up for me... he is having his bro, BIL and my bro so it worked out perfect. The girls are wearing 3 different styles of the Jim Hjelm Just Teas collection in teal- they all picked their own out. No idea what to do about the guys.

6. The Invites, I was told to skip the STD and send out the invite ASAP with all of the travel info so that is my plan. I am making them myself with the help of my sis and FSIL. It is going ok but taking forever. My sis lives in LA and on a completely different time schedule than us... and FSIL works at a printing company- I don't know. I guess I'd do it again... so far, but it would be a lot better if you sit down with the people helping you. My FH printed the envelopes while I glued things to the invites- we were a MESS! Went through an extra 50 envelopes, at least! Stupid printer. We are also doing a magnet which proved to be a pain as well, but I think we have it figured out. My FH's big idea was to use pictures of our dogs for the stamps... that is his project!

7. Helping people book is a big pain in the ass, so use a TA if you can. Playa Fiesta has guests book online directly, so I recommended a TA for the flight or told them they can just book the flight on line, we'll see how that goes after I send out the invites next weekend (HOPEFULLY!)

8. Welcome bags: I got canvas tote bags from Eddie Bauer (Like the standard LLBean bags) on sale for $12.99- pretty good deal from $22. Not cheap I know, but the stuff I got for in them made up for it! I went to the dollar store and scored on: sunscreen, aloe, tylenol, koozies shaped like hawaiian shirts, decks of cards, mini loofahs, and I forget what else. That equaled about $8 per bag- so thats $21! We are also planning on getting some munchies and water to put in the bags when we get there-but not much more.

That is about all I have done, which is a lot of the major stuff. Future projects and topics include:

1. Flowers, decor

2. Possible videographer?

3. Sunset cruise for rehersal dinner night

4. Menu

5. Ceremony

6. Itinerary

7. I like the idea of a "Who's Who" booklet with pictures and facts so people can get to know one another

8. Guy's clothes.

9. Music

10... there's gotta be more!

I think that about wraps it up! I head to Houston for work Monday-Friday and probably won't have internet access for most of the week bc I am getting a new laptop when I get there... thewave.gif

Tell your FI to go to Zazzle custom t-shirts and more, create or shop for unique designs shipped in 24 hours He can search postage stamps and make a custom one by uploading a pic of your dogs from the computer. Super easy! I used it for stamps for my STD's. If only I could help with some of your projects. lol

Sounds like you're getting a lot done.

Thanks! As soon as I can get these invitations off my plate we'll be in business. My goal when I get back from TX is to learn how to post a picture to photobucket and on to here and I will show you girls what I have so far!

Hope you all have a great week!

I'm getting married January 30, 2009 at Dreams Punta Cana.

Wow you ladies are very organized!

I was sitting on the fence about so many details until last week. I've been sick which has really gotten my wedding on track.

I never got any save-the-date cards out because I waited too long but word of mouth had gotten out so I didn't bother worrying.

Since I've been sick:

- I've ordered my dress (Vivian by Sophia Tolli)

-Ordered the BM dresses (B2 line by Jasmine) in Espresso brown.

-Designed, printed, assembled, and sent my invitations.

-Fought with my mother on all my wedding details because she's a Momzilla!

-Chosen my photographer; my dear friend is going to just be finishing up photography school in January and wants to develop her portfolio...so she said its free of charge (I will find a way to sneak her a cheque anyways!). She already does great work so I'm excited to see what she'll do with all of it!

-Built my wedding website...although its pretty bare right now but additions are on the way!

Now I'm just waiting to get my RSVPs so I can get people booked.

I've also been on the search of decently priced beach towels that we can order in bulk as we're going to be getting them embroidered with our names and wedding date and giving them as wedding favours.

Time is flying by and we're well on our way to having this wedding taken care of!

I leave you with this:

Getting married is hard...for the bride. When my FI asked his friend to be a GM, his friend asked him what kind of duties that entailed. His response was "Its easy, you just eat ribs and drink beer". smile35.gif Men!

hahahaha...men. I love your dress! You are doing great! Towels are on sale at Kohl's and they are high quality. I'm sure you can order them online if you don't have a kohl's near you! Best wishes.

"eat ribs and drink beer" I swear, I wish I was a man sometimes!!!

I went shopping with my mom today and we got her dress, shoes and bag :) We also figured out that an actual tiara isn't going to work with me (non have looked right) but a half one attached with a comb looks awsome...so that's the next obsticle.

Not sure what else I've posted, so forgive me if I'm repeating myself :)

- Ordered my dress

- Ordered half my BM dresses...waiting for the one ready to pop to pop before we put the order through

- Got most of my BM's gifts - Pasmina, savorski starfish necklace and earings, starfish/shell theamed picture frame and flip flops as soon as I order them

-Figured out what we're getting the GM (gonna do a group caracture, got the idea from moonpalacepookie and FI LOVED it)

- Ordered my OOT bags from Promotional tote bags custom sizes and styles from cheap totes

- Picked otu FI's rings (he's getting 2 since his cost a LOT less than mine LOL)

- Found my ring and a jewler to make it (need to go back and actually order it in the next week or two)

- Ordered my invitatioins, they came in, I hated them and they redid them...sent me a proof that time and now they're great...should be in Monday...my RSVP date is Nov. 15, so I'm not sending them until Mid-Sept.

I feel like I'm forgetting something.....

I'm convinced that I will be completely finished with everything before my FI will finally pick out his clothes and his GM's clothes. 6 months out is WAY to far in advance to plan something you know? lololol. Like we said, MEN...I keep e-mailing him tropical clothing websites, and he always says "Thanks for reminding me hunny," but has yet to buy anything! That cracked me up about the BM duties". Drink beer and eat ribs. Can anyone sign me up for that? HAHA. Any of you girls have a strapless dress? I do, and I've been living in a tube-top for the whole summer so far to get rid of tan lines. They are almost completely gone! YAY It sounds like everyone is right on track!!!! It's good to get stuff out of the way before winter and holidays. I just keep buying stuff and putting the bags right into the closet. The other day was like Christmas because I decided to actually re-look at everything. You actually tend to forget what you buy when you don't look at it for a month or two. Music is what we are working on currently. Since we are having a small 20 person wedding, I thought it would be a good idea to pick out 3-5 songs that each guest LOVES for the reception. You know when you are drinking a few beers and one of your favorite songs comes on, and you feel like all is right with the world? LMFAO...Well, that's what I'm going for here. I want people to be having a great time, and then suddenly they hear some of their favorite songs and BAM, the night just got even better!!!! So I'm making a 3 hour C.D compiled with our favorite songs, and the guests favorite songs! Time to go play in the sun, it's gonna be a hot one!!! cheer2.gif

I love the idea of guests suggesting songs. I plan on putting a form for song request onto my wedding website. The only person I need to worry about is the FIL because he's likely to request Black Sabath!

My FI still hasn't picked anything for him and the guys to wear either. He's away for work right now but when he gets back I'm taking him hostage until he figures things out! For his ribs comment, I think I should leave him to plan everything else, pick the cake, the flowers, which pretty bows will go on the chairs, etc..

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
