Water Island/St Thomas

Good Morning

I'm brand new here and I posted my first message in Newbies, but thought I'd hop on over here and say hi.

We're planning a wedding on Water Island and was wondering if anyone else has considered this location. If that doesn't work out (and it may or may not) then there are a few places on St Thomas we love and would be more than excited to have our wedding at any one of them.

I used to live on St Thomas (and hopefully will be going back to live in the fall) so if I can be of any help to anyone I'm more than happy to give my opinion. I've been lurking so I know there's plenty of USVI help on this board which is fantastic.

So, hi and I hope to get to know you all soon.

Actually I could use some advice. I am staying on St. Thomas but getting married on St. John. We will be having dinner at Morgan's Mango after the ceremony but I wanted to go out afterwards for an "afterparty". Nothing big, maybe just a local bar on St. Thomas. Any suggestions?

Since you'll be on St John I would assume you probably wouldn't want to wander too far from the ferry in Red Hook which should give you tons of options as that's where the majority of bars and restaurants are clustered on the island outside of Charlotte Amalie (town). Duffy's Love Shack is a lot of fun and usually filled with young locals and tourists. It's in a parking lot across the street from the ferry. There are also quite a few places at American Yacht Harbor. Some are outside and others have inside and airconditioned which can be a blessing. You'll have fun wherever you go. The locals are mostly the friendliest bunch of people you'll ever meet and since it looks like you'll be going in October you shouldn't have too much trouble with places being overcrowded.

July09,

Will you be having your ceremony on Honeymoon Beach? That would be such a beautiful, romantic setting. Are you having a reception or dinner or party after the ceremony? If so, where will you be holding it?

Yvette,

If you take the Red Hook ferry back to St. Thomas after your dinner on St. John you will find yourselves right near several good places for an afterparty all within walking distance of the ferry dock. A must is Duffy's Love Shack. There's also the Caribbean Saloon, XO Bistro, Molly Malones, and the place above the Chinese Restaurant and Senor Pizza that used to be the Poor Man's Bar but has recently changed names. Heck, it's your wedding day. Go to them all....LOL. As I said, they are all within walking distance.

Where will you be staying on St. Thomas?

Thanks for the great suggestions. Funny you both mention Duffy's Love Shack because I really want to check them out. Their website seems so fun! I didn't realize there were so many options near the ferry. I'm so excited! Thanks again for all the great info.

We will be staying at the Wyndham. I'm a little nervous about it only because of all the mixed reviews I have read, but I'm sure everything will be fine.

Ahhhh, Poorman's Bar. That place brings back so many memories. It's also where my fiance and I had our first kissembarrest.gif

Also, Duffy's is a tiny little place right in the middle of a blacktop parking lot, but the party spills out all over the place and the music is loud and everynight there's a different theme/special.

Check out the weekly local paper here:

paper.vidaily.com

and you'll see the ads for Duffy's.

Petunia

We aren't really sure as of yet where we're going to hold either the ceremony or the reception. We thought about the pavillion at Honeymoon beach but there are going to be a few older people as well as northerners who may need some A/C breaks, but Honeymoon beach was our initial thought for the ceremony and reception. The reception is definitely just going to be a party. We're thinking traditional island food and a local band or maybe even just a bbq and plenty of cheap Heinekens and Cruzan Rum. Nothing fancy for us.

Lattitude18....good thinking.

Oh, and Poor Man's is now called Fat Boys.

You and I are pretty much in the same place regarding a casual beach wedding. I don't plan on sending invitations, but will welcome anyone who is vacationing there at that time (and hopefully some friends and family will). OK, his kids and mine definitely have to be there. We're not having a "reception" but like you, a party for whoever shows up. Even without invitations I think I'll have lots of folks around.

We're getting married on Limetree Beach. I own a timeshare at Bluebeard's Beach Club. He proposed to me on that beach and it's only fitting. Besides, it's truly my favorite.

We could easily have a barbecue there, with a huge stonework grill just built. But I don't think we want to do the work. I also like the idea of local food, and wonder if Cuzzin's caters. Yum!

I'll love hearing more about your plans. My wedding isn't until Aug. 2010

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
