Moon Palace 2008 & 2009 Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have Nancy as their WC? I was contacted by her about 1 month ago. We were in contact via email quite a bit until just recently... My fiance and I decided to upgrade our package and I have not heard from her since. Does anyone know if she's only assigned to certain package weddingshuh.gif I've been trying to request that she scedule my MOH's hair/makeup appt at the same time as mine. She had also emailed me all of the information and had asked that I inform her of my choices. I guess I'm just starting to worry being that we're only 1 1/2 months away from the date =(

Let me know if you are unable to open the attachments and I can email them to you.

Salon services are one of the things they do at the last minute. I just finished booking mine last week, and my wedding is in less than 2 weeks (my mom decided at the last minute to get her hair done.) The salon contact is Xochitl Esquivel Solis- xesquivel@palaceresorts.com. Good luck!!

In response to your questions above...
1. We wanted Chapel Garden for our private function site as it is right next to the Chapel Gazebo where we are getting married and didn't want our guests to have to haul themselves to a different part of the resort. I submitted my request for Chapel Garden and it was already taken, so we opted for our second choice which is Terrace Venado. It was available so we booked it. I too was concerned about the grass but then I remembered my sister's wedding and how everyone was spilling drinks on the dance floor and everyone was slipping around and falling (my sister-in-law actually fell so hard that she went to the ER that night) and realized that maybe grass is a safer option! LOL.

2. Yes. This was a personal requirement from me as I did not want guests running around the resort, etc. Below is a summary of our day.
6pm: ceremony at Chapel Gazebo
7pm: cocktail hour at Terrace Venado
8pm-10pm: dinner and dancing at Terrace Venado
10pm+: disco/nightclub or another bar on the resort

3. I found out that lighting does come with the DJ packages (1 and 2) but I was not able to get verification if lights come with the iPod packages (3 and 4). If I have the opportunity to ask my WC, I will. As for the iPod hook-ups, I am assuming that the "mixer" my WC speaks of is something similar to a regular stereo receiver. I had to buy a cord in order to hook my iPod up to the stereo receiver up at home and it was about $5 at Best Buy. The cord plugs into the headphones jack on the iPod and then hooks into the receiver. I would recommend a trip to Best Buy to pick one of those up, you can always return it. They may also have these cords at the resort. Sorry I can't provide much more information on this.

One last thing I learned was in regard to the private function automatic backup sites in the case of bad weather. I had asked my WC if it was true that they automatically book a backup site for private functions in the case of bad weather and her response wasn't clear. I asked her to clarify this and she said that the backup sites for outdoor private functions are in the ballrooms (not in the restaurants).
Thank you so much for your detailed response! It is such a big help chatting with other Brides.

I sent an email with my Wedding Event Form to my onsite WC today. I hope that she can get started on it, as we really have our hearts set on our plans!

I have requested the Chapel Gazebo for the ceremony. The Chapel Garden or Terrace Venado for both the Cocktail Reception & Dinner. Where is the Terrace Venado - I can't seem to find it on any maps?

Should you hear anymore on the DJ lighting, please keep me posted - as I have seen many photos of the self-DJ system and there has been lighting in these pictures.

We will keep each other posted - you have been a huge help

Chat soon - Laura

It is fun to meet someone getting married the same day! We fly in on Friday, January 23rd, and we'll be staying at Moon Palace for 8 nights. We're moving to the Aventura Spa Resort the next Saturday, and will be there for 6 nights. We wanted to make sure we stayed at Moon Palace until Saturday because most of our guests will be flying out that day. We had a family friend who is a member of the palace resorts, and has let us use their membership to book all of our guests. So far, I think we have about 40 guests that are confirmed to come. It's so exciting! What about you? When do you fly in? And how many guests?

So you do have a wedding coordinator assigned already? I've been asking Marlyn for one, and should be getting one pretty quick - in three days, it will be exactly three months until our wedding days!

I can't decide what to do with the music. We're bringing a CD for the ceremony, but for the private reception, I haven't decided. I had thought that we'd just go with our Ipod, but I do want some control over the lighting - has anyone had experience with this? I saw someone quote earlier that you can buy the lighting separately from the DJ, but I don't want it to be a lot of work if we do it ourselves.

Have most of your guests paid for their trip already? We are in Calgary, in Canada, and I'm PANICKING over the Canadian dollar and the exchange rate! We are booked to pay in US funds, and our trip is getting more expensive every day! I just feel bad about our guests because it was already a lot of money to be asking them to spend, and most of them have only put down their initial deposits. Yikes.

What are you doing for decorations in the chapel/gazebo (whichever you go with)? I was actually wondering if we could purchased flowers for the gazebo, if those same flowers could be used for the centerpieces on our tables later that night, for our private reception? Has anyone tried that?
Hello - Can't believe that it is 3 months this week!!!

We arrive on the 24th of January with most of our guests. Some of our other guests are flying in later that day or on Monday. We have 28 in total - they are paying their last installment this week! Our trip is in Cdn dollars.

My WC is Kalena - I was given her name a few weeks ago. I contacted her via phone and we chatted for a bit - she is very nice. I just sent my email and Wedding Event Info form in this morning. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she will begin to work with me.

We just put our request in for the self-dj option for four hours. I have asked about lighting . . . We are also completing the CD for the ceremony.

Decor - I will determine once we arrive - I just want to reserve our locations and take it one request at a time.

Chat soon

Hi Ladies!! Thanks for the concern :) I've been good just super super busy. I actually signed into my email today for the first time in a WHILE and had a few messages from people on here, so I decided to come on and say hi and fill everyone in on what's been going on with me.
http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t31237

As far as our site visit, it was great! We went down Sept 25-29th and stayed at the MP. It rained the WHOLE time, but we still had a great time. It was off season, so the resort was no where close to capacity!

Before we went we had the Bumgabalia Gazabo reserved for our ceremoney and the terrace for our coctail hour (2 hour) and Star Ballroom for our reception. I actually just emailed them today to ask if they can switch it to the other Gazebo (not the Chapel) as that's the one with the LONG walk way and we are changing our coctail hour from 2 hours to 1. The Gazebo's and terrace are on teh Nizuc side and the Star ballroom is on the Sunrise...so we figured we'll give guests some time to make their way accross.

The resort is HUGE! Even the guy we met on our way home at the duty free shop (hehe) was like "that's not a resort, it's a city!" And OMG it is! We got a little lost getting to our room the first day and a half, then you figure it out. We were staying on the Sunrise side. All the balconies on the sunrise side have hammocs, that was pretty cool :)

We did the timeshare presentation. It was really hard to turn it down, really really hard...the more you turn it down, the better the deal gets. (we would have taken the last one if we had the money!). But for doing it, we got a tee shirt, beach bag, $50 towards an excursion and $100 towards the spa :) Turns out, our room also came with a $200 credit to the spa.. Make sure you look into this! When settling your bill, you will have been charged for teh Spa, but just tell them you have the creit and they'll take it off. OMG the spa was awesome!!!!!!! best part of the whole trip!

We did paradise snorkling, first time either of us have snorkled adn it was GREAT! We used the credit towards adding on ATV's and Speedboats! So much fun!!!!

There really are golf carts everywhere adn if you ask them how to get back to yoru room, they'll take you closer lol and the shuttle that goes from one lobby to the other comes every 10 minutes, it was awesome! After our massages we had lunch at the Italian place on the golf course. We'd heard from a lot of other guests that it was one of the best restuants. And it definately was!!!

If you have any questions about anything specific, feel free to ask and I'll answer...it's just hard to cover EVERYTHING!

Oh, the wedding office was great! I belive we met with Kalina and she was so sweet. She sat with us and went over EVEYTHING! I picked out our flowers, centerpieces, table linens, etc etc :)

For those of you not going down before your wedding. I can see how you can do everything we did three days before, so don't worry! Everything will be great!!!!!

i really want an outside photographer for our portraits or posed photo sessions with my soon to be husband and family.
Have you made any decisions on which photographer you are considering? We went with Tamms - they are amazing and such a great deal!

I originally was going to use both my package photographer for the wedding day along with my hired photographer - but when researching the forum another Bride was able to use her package photography for another event i.e Welcome Dinner.

I just sent in my request this morning - so I will have to see how it goes!

Awesome thanks for your post!

Do you have any info on the Terrace's?
Where is Terrace Venado? Other terrace's?

We want to stay close to the Grand Side - did you see the new Grand Moon?

We are hoping to have the Chapel Gazebo - What was it like in comparison to the Tucan Gazebo?

Chapel Garden - what did it look like - good place for a reception?

We are un-decided between the Chapel Garden and Terrace Venado.

We have Kalena as well - great to hear that all went well with her and we will be in good hands!!

Thank you
Laura

Kalena is sooo sweet! We've actually been assigned Lilly as an WC but Kalina was going to see if she could switch another wedding with Lilly so that she could be ours, being as we've already met and all :)

We didn't look at every location, as we already had a lot of things decided before we even got there...and it was raining off and on. Kalina was actually surprised by a lot of the info I already have (menue's, dj stuff). I smiled and said "if you keep asking, eventually they give it to you" she laughed.

The Chapel Gazebo is beautiful (FI really liked it too) and so is the Tucan Gazebo. We want the tucan gazebo over the Bumgabilias because of the walk way. Tucan has the long red walk. The Chapel Gazebo has some clear glass wind barriers, so that'd be really good if it's a windy day. It also has little bridges and is beautiful. It's a hard choice, even in person!

If you want a garden reception on the grass then the chapel garden is the perfect place!

I have to look at the pics I took and figure out which terraces I took pics of. Honestly, there wasn't a place we looked at that wouldn't be perfect! We thought that once we got there, it'd be easier, seeing the places in person and all, but it wasn't. LOL On the flip side, I have no doubt that ANY choice you make, will be a wonderful one.

I'm actually cringing because I'm giving you the same answers I was given when asking about locations. Only now that I've been there do I understand :)

    • After the wedding, the wedding dress purchased at a high price can be kept in the wardrobe, or it can be sold as a second-hand wedding dress for some cash. If you're in the market to sell your wedding dress or looking to buy a used one, you may be tempted to turn to large online marketplaces like Ebay and Craigslist. While these popular websites are great for listing and buying everyday purchases, a website specifically for used wedding dresses can probably offer you a better deal and a more user-friendly service for this very niche (and important) wedding day purchase.  Tips for Selling Used Wedding Dresses
Whether you aren't the sentimental type or you're just savvy, selling your used wedding dress is an easy way to recoup some money from your wedding. If your dress is in good condition, consider listing it online over selling it to a thrift store, where your listing will reach a greater volume of potential buyers and can be more easily shared and promoted. A used wedding dress in great condition and under two years old can usually sell for 50 percent of the retail price. And, if your dress is a more recognizable brand like Oscar de la Renta or Vera Wang, you could make closer to 60 percent of its retail value. Even if your gown isn't designer, don't give up hope—since there's a large demand for all kinds of second hand wedding dresses, a designer label doesn't necessarily mean your dress will sell faster. Not to mention, mermaid dresses are also in high demand, so you shouldn't worry if you're not a sample size. Tips for Buying Used Wedding Dresses
Buying a used wedding dress can be a bit of a gamble, but as long you're cautious, it's a thrifty way to snag a designer wedding dress for half the retail value. Plus, if you get lucky and buy a wedding dress from someone with a similar body type, you may not have to make too many alterations, which also cuts down on your costs. As long as the gown you found looks to be in good condition (if you can't see it in person, make sure photos show it clearly from all angles or ask to Skype with the seller to get a better look), a used wedding gown can be a terrific deal. A few tips: Since your dress will have to be custom-tailored to your body regardless, a larger size is easier to work with where alterations are concerned. Fabric can always be subtracted, but adding more fabric that perfectly matches the rest of the gown can be difficult (not to mention expensive!). And because you're getting the wedding dress for a steal, you can put some of the money you save toward making sure it fits like a glove (and some extra dry-cleaning if necessary).
    • When brides takes off her wedding dress and begins her marriage life, the first problem after wedding is to modify her name. You have a marriage license with your new last name, doesn't mean you've officially changed your name. Which aspects should be paid attention to to change the surname?
      1. Get your marriage license.
Before you can change your name, you'll need the original (or certified) marriage license with the raised seal. Call the clerk's office where your license was filed to get copies if one wasn't automatically sent to you. 2. Change your Social Security card.
Visit the Social Security Administration's website and fill out the application for a new Social Security card. You'll keep the same number—just your name will be different. Mail in your application to the local Social Security Administration office. You should get your new card within 10 business days. 3. Change your license at the DMV.
Take a trip to the local Department of Motor Vehicles office to get a new license with your new last name. Bring every form of identification you can get your hands on—your old license, your certified marriage certificate and, most importantly, your new Social Security card. 4. Change your bank accounts.
This one's a biggie, especially if you're setting up a joint bank account, or if you have one already set up. The fastest way to change your name at your bank is to go into a branch location, bringing your new driver's license and your marriage certificate. You should request new checks and debit and credit cards on top of changing the name attached to your accounts. Something to note: You might get hit with fees for requesting a new debit card. 5. Fill in the blanks
Once you have a social security card and driver's license in your married name, other changes should be fairly easy. Some places only require a phone call; others may ask for a copy of your marriage certificate or social security card. Be sure to notify: -Employers/payroll
      -Post office
      -Electric and other utility companies
      -Credit card companies
      -Schools and alumni associations
      -Landlord or mortgage company
      -Insurance companies (auto, home, life)
      -Doctors' offices
      -Voter registration office
      -Investment account providers
-Your attorney (to update legal documents, including your will)
      -Passport office
-Airlines (to transfer over your miles)

    • My best friend is getting married with his long-term girlfriend next month. As a best friend, I want to give them the best present they would ever receive on their special day. I am planning to buy them plane tickets and book them for a one week trip abroad. However, I am torn between Ukraine ski trip and a tour to Lima, Peru. My best friend loves skiing and his future wife is a chef, so I presume she would want to experience a Peruvian taste. Now, I am confused. Which is which? I would appreciate it if you guys will leave a comment to help me out with this. Suggesting a way better idea which will accommodate the two activities for the soon-to-be wedded couple is a big help too. Thanks!
    • Hello all!! I'm getting married next week. Every arrangement has been done by my sister for my special day. When I joined in an MNC I was troubled with severe headaches and as per my colleague's instruction, I took an appointment in a nearby eye clinic. And after an eye examination in Toronto, the eye specialist diagnosed hypermetropia in me. And the doctor prescribed eyeglasses for me. The doctor suggested me to wear eyeglasses during the working time. But I used to wear it sometimes not every day. Then I was troubled with severe eye strain and headache and mom was scolding me to wear eyeglasses every day. I thought of saying goodbye to eyeglasses forever. I'm planning for a Lasik eye surgery soon before my marriage. I don't know whether I'm eligible for Lasik eye surgery. I'm tensed about its recovery time and its complications. Can someone help me by sharing your views?
