We just got back from MP on Tuesday and I wasn't sure where the best place to post a review might be. I read many posts and was looking forward to everything coming together. But we ran into some snags and my daughter and I both felt it was important to let everyone know so that someone else might avoid some of the same experiences.

Like many of the posts I read, my daughter worked via email with Katherine in the FL office and Nancy at the resort. Getting emails returned and questions answered was a lengthly process and sometimes vague at best. Here's some of what we saw:

You will more than likely not be grouped together. This wasn't just us, it was every wedding party we encountered. You'll be on the same side (Nizuc or Sunrise) but it's impossible to put everyone together. I don't fault them for that, but I think they shouldn't have even promised to try - it's just not feasible when they are 95% occupied.

Transfers were another issue. I'd advise doing this as early as possible and try for a group rate. Try to get a confirmation email with the quoted price. When the couple was checking out, they were charged $23.00/pp instead of the group rate and it took quite awhile to get that resolved because they didn't have a printed quote.

Nancy was less than competent. Tanna asked several times via email what she would need to bring to the final meeting and what documents were required for a religious/non-civil ceremony. She also asked about music timings and decorations. She never got an answer. When they had their meeting, she found she should have brought their civil license from the states with them. Nancy missed our rehearsal all together! So Tanna basically did the rehearsal herself and we just winged the music since there wasn't a way to walk through it - which meant that the couples song got played for the F/D dance and the groom just cut in half way through. She spent more time telling us what she could NOT do instead of what she could to make the wedding come together correctly. We also had difficulty getting carts to get us to the Toucan gazebo. After waiting for more than 10 minutes the ladies had no makeup left on and we were all just drenched. We had tried to set up carts earlier in the day, but Nancy said they didn't handle that for anyone other than the bride (who was taking the carriage) or disabled persons and we should check with the bell hop desk. Of course, they said they didn't handle that and we should check with the Wedding desk. Even the groom didn't get transportation! This was a biggie as we finally got to the gazebo 5 minutes before the wedding started.

As for the hotel, I can say it was very nice. The food was good and the service was always good. The staff was very pleasant and made us feel welcome. I'm sure we will go back again at another time just to enjoy the resort. The salon was also good. Just allow for more time than you think for hairstyles. But, all the spa and salon services were really good!

All in all, we heard many couples and families that were very happy with their coordinators and I think that's the most important thing. If you have someone who is organized and reponds quickly to questions, that's a good sign. I am still working on my letter to the Palace corporate office regarding our experience with Nancy. I want to word it appropriately as I think it was an individual's lack of professionalism and not representative of the resort as a whole. After being married 23 years, I know the photos and fun memories of the day will be what the couple will remember - and that's what matters. But, we wanted to let you all know what we've experienced to hopefully avoid some stress for others.

Good luck everyone!

Oh no! Are you talking about Nancy Ariza? That's my wedding coordinator. I am leaving in 4 days..... should I try and switch wedding coordinators? I am a little worried now. Has anyone else had Nancy Ariza?

Thanks,
Melissa

Hello,
What civil license are you referring to? Was your daughter married already when she got there?

No, I no longer work there.....THANK GOD!

I'm sure some of you are as happy as I am. However, I wanted to take the chance to come on here and give you a better perspective on the whole wedding department issue.

The first thing I ask is for people to have more patience. Your email/voicemail is not the only one in the inbox. The department is still going through a HUGE transitional phase with Mexico. Carolina, bless her heart, has been working hard on creating templates for each coordinator to be able to send when brides request information. Most of the time every question has to be sent to the resort to be answered especially price quotes. There isn't a file for which flowers, cakes, and decor is available and how much it costs. Hence what Caro is trying to accomplish.

I want to apologize to anyone who felt I inadequately handled your wedding. No, I didn't appreciate after a long day at work coming home and finding negative vents about me on a public forum online. However, I'm going to take it as a added sign P.R. and I weren't made for one another. We have parted ways and I hope as it has benefitted myself it also betters the experience you all have had with the wedding department.

Please be patient with your next/new coordinator. They all work very hard to finalize each file properly.

This post was not to collect even further ambushing but to just notify people that I am not a lazy worker or imcompetant person. I simply wasn't meant to work there. Again I apologize and wish everyone the best.

It took a lot of courage to come on here and post that -- thank you. It sounds like there is a lot going on in Miami, stuff that potentially could lead to a great experience for everyone -- all around. Good luck in your new endeavors.

I never had any problems with the Miami department. You were all so wonderful and helpful! It was great to have you post this on here.
Do you know Nancy Ariza from Moon Palace Resort? She seems wonderful!
I saw one post about her, but I won't get nervous. She seems great!
Good luck to you!

Thank you. Trust me, the Miami office won't disappoint. Neither will Mexico. I work better at freelance wedding planning because the outcome is handled by me and not dependent on someone else sending me info. Not having the information to answer questions and having to wait to hear from the Mexico office irritated me. Carolina is more then aware of the issues that need tweaking. They are going to be adding to their staff in Miami hopfully to lighten the work load on the coordinators.

Miami is just the stepping stone. Mexico finalizes every detail and they do it well.

If you guys have any wedding questions I'll be happy to help.

I have nothing but the best things to say about the Florida department, I have worked briefly with you, Carolina and Maribel and Lisa Lizano in the Reservations department. Everyone was super responsive and helpful. There are communication delays, but those are to be expected with the number of weddings going on. I think you did a wonderful job while at PR and am glad you found something you like even more. Good luck.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
