Dreams Cancun Rehersal Dinner

Recommended Posts

So I have read from some of you that they did not charge an extra fee for your rehersal dinner, but Claudia my WC just emailed me and said

"yes there is a fee of $ 12 usd + 15% service + 10% tax per person, the times are 6:00 or 9:30 p.m. set menu.…"

Soooo now I am a little annoyed. There really shouldnt be an extra fee since we our guests are already paying to eat. WTF any advise? rant.gif

I think the people that didn't pay for a RD just went to one of the restaurants, right when they opened and asked for a table for XX people. That's how they got around it.

I guess it depends how many people you have. If its a really large group you're taking the chance that they may not be able to accomodate you at one of the restaurants, if you don't schedule it.

You'll find lots of complaints about this throughout the Dreams Cancun threads. If you can get away with it, just show up when the open and have them set you up then. I think PaulaV did that with about 25 people. Other than that, they usually charge these charges because they have to bring on extra wait and kitchen staff... not that I agree with it for a rehearsal dinner but I think thats the story. frown.gif

The Friday we wanted to do our Welcome Dinner, all the restaurants were closed, only the banquet hall was open for Carribbean night. It was a buffet with a show. (This did this on Tuesday nights as well - Mexican Night).

We had 41 adults and 5 children. We got there when they opened, told them how many people we had and they put us all with tables all together. Very accommodating no problem at all. We tipped them well. It worked out very well for us.

We did not have previous arrangements with them. The only other restaurant that could possibly fit a large group without some sort of prior arrangement would be the World Cafe which is always a buffet. Which is another reason for the charges they quote.

I know its really annoying - I asked why they were charging us for a reception when it was an AI resort and they said it was because it was different menu etc - IMHO its bollox the menu is hardly fantastic and I'm sure its not going to stretch them but thats the price you have to pay unfortunately

I scrapped the RD and thought as there will be no more than 20 of us we'll just turn up early to a restaurant - if we decide to have one which we probably won't

Is Friday always Carribbean night because that's when I was planning on having my welcome dinner? What time does the restaurant usually open?

If one night is Carribbean night and one night is Mexican night, does that mean for those two nights, you can't eat anything but those foods? (I guess you could always order room service)

when we were there we asked around and they said that depending the size of your group you could def just show up and ask to be seated and they would o it if they could the only thing is that you might be sat at different tables and have differnt servers so there is the possiblity that say table 1 could be done there meals and on2 dessert while table 4 is only half way through if you pay for the service they will pre setup the restaurant and all your orders will be taken together

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
