Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

Hola fellow dreams brides! I have been back for almost a week, but missed a week of a 7 1/2 week Summer session at school so I have been too busy to post my review. Short story: it was perfect! Claudia was awesome, we planned our wedding in 45 minutes and had nothing picked out before our arrival at Dreams, so don't stress the small stuff if you have a date and locations for ceremony, cocktail and reception the rest can be done when you get there.

I drank frozen drinks all week, as did most of our group of 22. none got sick. I think it may be a concern off the resort, but I didn't worry about drinking the water (the buffet and other restaurants don't serve bottled water, its iced in a pitcher with limes). Everyone in our group was fine, but we only drank bottled water off the resort.

Cecilia sent me different ways to set up the tables but I was curious if anyone had advice if they had a small group and/or pictures to give me a visual! I am a visual learner! :)

Also.... would you include place cards with such a small group? Thanks!

My group was small as well and we did one big rectangular table which worked perfectly with two short and stout floral arrangements which was just enough. The tables get pretty full with all the glasses, silverware etc. so don't worry about it looking bare. We didn't do place cards and eveyone found a seat just fine. I thinkthat is really a personal preference though; whatever you feel you should do. We just thought our guests could choose and it worked out perfectly.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I have 25 pages worth of papers to write between now and Thursday so don't count on seeing my review before then, sorry! Maybe by then I will have some pics too!

they sent me this list, but I think I deleted it. They usually have a daily list of activities and then a theme night of some sort. Our favorites were Tuesday night fiesta and Friday night caribbean night with water and fire show. I did morning yoga once, but they don't supply mats so you use towels in the gazebo which is a little hard onthe knees. We did water aerobics at noon a couple of days: Freddy is a lot of fun, but the girl (we called her el diablo is pretty serious) but if you're fun you'll enjoy it anyway.
We tried the snorkel lesson and that was totally lame, nothing to look at, but some of our friends did a little trip to isla mujeres and they said that was well worth it. At the hut by the beach where you schedule this they will wheel and deal with you and a big group paying cash will get you the best deal.
DEFINITELY take time to swim with the dolphins, well worth it. Somehting I have always wanted to do and I was not at all disappointed. Amazing experience.

One tip: TIP! Right when you get there, tip well and get to know your servers/bartenders you will get treated well and make some great friends. A lot of my family has/does work in the restaurant/service industry so they are good tippers and we made friends with a few of the great ones on the resort. They are so Awesome! Alberto on the tower beach is THE MAN, Guillermo (sp) works in the buffet from 11am to midnight everyday but Sunday and he also does the theme nights on the beach. he even stole the sombreros off the buffet and let us wear them; it was so fun!
The above mentioned Freddy wears many hats and works all over the resort and then takes people out to clubs at night. The day before our wedding he found us in the lobby and brought flowers to my FI and I to wish us luck if he didn't see us before the wedding (i'm pretty sure he clipped them from the arrangements in the lobby but it was the thought that counts) He also offered to get us into coco bongo free on our wedding night.
Luis worked our wedding and was also THE MAN. I think he only does weddings cuz that is the only time we saw him, but he was running his ass off for us all night and even when they put the bars down to close the bar he snuck us shots! Again, TIP. I later found out people were tipping for drinks all night, my sister gave him $60, my photographer and friend gave him $70 and we gave him $100 at the end of the night. When we all got together and talked about this we realized he made out like a bandit, but he was worth it and I am Sure they live off tips. He worked hard.

maria, u are awesome! my travel agent quoted some friends of mine 2400 Each, and thats with a so called "group rate" discount! we all though that was crazy!

but i told them about that orbitz website you told me about last night and 2 people already booked with them! that 1500 deal is great and much, much less than the prices we had been seeing with other carriers.

thanks again for all your help! you are really a sweet girl! smile03.gif

Thank you so much to everyone for answering all my questions! I think we will be going with the long table since we have total of 16 including us. Im just thinking of having a coral organza runner and the center pieces that are included with the package. If anyone has any pictures of other ways they decorated their long table, please share!! I need ideas! :0) im getting really excited.... I cant believe its 7 weeks away. Ill be honest though, I feel like I have not really focused on wedding planning until now. Im a teacher and now that its summer break, I can focus on my wedding! But its already less than 2 months away!!! ah! lol. From reading posts on here, it seems as though the actual planning takes place when i get there, so thats good. Im just putting together my oot bags and other stuff like that now. Thank you all for your help!!! I love this site.

I'll see if I can get someone to send me some pics of our table and let you know. My photog is also currently a student so I have only seen about 10 pro pics from her. I'll see if my SIL can email me some. I wouldn't put too much thought into it though, Claudia knows what she is doing!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
