Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

i just found out that some of our last-minute bookers were given $300 resort credits! wtf? so i don't get *anything* for booking (and paying!) in advance, bringing all this business to their resort, and not to mention, not cancelling on their flu-ridden mexican asses?!?!?! but lazy, procrastinating, last-minute losers get $300? (not to mention MUCH cheaper flights than i got!)

ok, so really i'm happy for whomever got the credit, but it hardly seems fair. it's not like they just booked AFTER the swine flu story broke. they booked in april. and our TA told them not to tell us!!! isn't *that* shady as hell?!

That's awful that your TA told them not to tell you, that's not right at all.

But if it makes you feel any better, it most likely had nothing to do with your TA. The resort has promotions all the time and one of the promotions that has been running a lot the last 6 months or so, is the $300 resort credit. I know that won't make you feel any better, but they didn't get it because of the swine flu craziness or anything, it's just a promotion that's been being offered for awhile now.

We're having people coming from all over the US on different days and times so this really isn't an option for us. It would be nice to introduce everyone at some sort of organized meeting tho. We'll have to figure something out

Some friends of my FI got this, and asked him about it. He asked me and I had no clue what it was about and I guess I really didn't think much of it. But you're right, that's kinda crappy that we don't get something for bringing them all the business that we do!

I am soo optimistic at this point. The news this am was great! Businesses and schools in Mexico City are opening back up and they say the Flu is not as bad as originally thought to be. I am so glad that I have you all to share this with. No matter what my friends say, they REALLY do not understand how difficult this is for us. I hope all of you May brides hang in there! I think you may be pleasantly surprise!

After waking up to this nightmare 1 week before our wedding and countless hours of talking & crying we are getting married here in FL next Saturday, May 9th. Somewhere on a beach and having a reception in FMIL's backyard.

My AMAZING fiance has been doing all the planning - I said he is my new wedding coordinator, he has called everyone local and has even set us up on a honeymoon to Jamaica during the time we have off from work!! I believe it but I dont believe it! bunny_4.gif

I was getting so excited to post my planning thread on here but maybe I will still do that after I get back to normal life....whenever that is HAHA

If anyone needs ANYTHING ANYTIME, please let me know :)

Good luck to all my fellow May Dreams brides and all other future Dreams brides, I hope your weddings and marriages are blessed with LOVE, HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!! smile03.gif

Love

JENN

Yea for you! My FI has been absolutely amazing, too! Yesterday he walked into the office while I was crying my eyes out, turned the computer off, picked me up, put me in the shower and said lets go have some fun!

My family has been very supportive and have eased my mind that this will all work out. My brother said he is going...swine flu or not...he isnt going to let this ruin his vacation and neither am I. We had a few guests ask us what we were going to do and I reassured them that Cancun has not been affected. A coworker just returned on wed...said nobody even talks about it there. Hope all is well with all the future Dreams brides...stay strong and it will all work out!!
Gotta love your family. My brother and sis in law are the same way! A few guests are definitely not going but that is their decision. AT this point I need a freaking vacation more than anything!

I am feeling very optimistic myself and am planning on going ahead with my original plan to get married in Cancun. It seems that things are under control. And let's put this in perspective shall we. If there are 20m people in Mexico City and less than 1,000 have come down with swine, statistically that really isn't so bad. Of the 320m people that live in the US there are approximately 250 cases. Again, not so bad. I think things were dramatized in the media and I honestly believe that everything will be ok. May brides, hang in there. Everything is going to be perfect!!

We are planning to have a rehearsal dinner. I have 45 guests as well and since you have to pay to have it on the resort, we have decided to go to a local restaurant. We thought it would be a nice break for everyone and a fun night out. We will probably separate after that for our bachelor/bachelorette nights. I will let you know when we decide on the restaurant. We are getting prices/menus now.

I had a couple who booked at the last minute and got the $300 in resort credits. In my opinion... I do not think the credits were worth it. They got a few credits to be used in the spa but they could not be used together. When you look at the spa menu the least expensive service that I would get was $110!! .The least expensive romantic dinner is $200!!!! I complained to my travel agent once when I found that they got credits but after seeing what the credits were all about I let it go. The couple that was given the credits did not want to use them so they gave them to us. I left the resort without using any of them. Below is a breakdown of what the credits are:

Romantic Dinners, two credits totaling $60.00 can be used in the following manner: two credits: ($40 and $20), applying one per dinner. (Please contact the Concierge for further information)

Spa Services – Applies towards Massages, Facials and Body Treatments such as Body Wraps - three credits totaling $100.00 (usd) can be used in the following manner: two credits at $40 and one at $20 can be applied one per treatment.

Bottles of Wine at our Restaurants and Bars, two credits totaling $40.00 (usd) can be used in the following manner: two credits ($20 and $20), one for each bottle of wine in our restaurants and bars.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
