Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

Hey all Dreams Brides just wanted to check in with everyone and see how you are all doing. smile03.gif

After waking up to this nightmare 1 week before our wedding and countless hours of talking & crying we are getting married here in FL next Saturday, May 9th. Somewhere on a beach and having a reception in FMIL's backyard.

My AMAZING fiance has been doing all the planning - I said he is my new wedding coordinator, he has called everyone local and has even set us up on a honeymoon to Jamaica during the time we have off from work!! I believe it but I dont believe it! bunny_4.gif

I was getting so excited to post my planning thread on here but maybe I will still do that after I get back to normal life....whenever that is HAHA

If anyone needs ANYTHING ANYTIME, please let me know :)

Good luck to all my fellow May Dreams brides and all other future Dreams brides, I hope your weddings and marriages are blessed with LOVE, HEALTH AND HAPPINESS!! smile03.gif

Love

JENN

so far we are going ahead with our plan to be married at dreams cancun may 28th. we only had one guest cancel ... our families are being unbelievably supportive and i'm just so grateful. since all dreams is offering so far in the event of border closures/canceled flights is postponing or moving to the dominican republic, i've contacted the WCs at all 3 dominican dreams resorts. so far, i've heard from one (palm beach) that my date is unavailable (i am intent on doing a legal ceremony so it would have to be either the 28th or 29th). even if my date is available at one of the DR resorts, my travel agent admitted that it will be near impossible to get flights and rooms for all of us at this point.

here are the WC's email addresses in the dominican republic, for any of you hoping to make the switch:

Dreams LaRomana: weddings@dreamslaromana.com.do

Dreams Palm Beach (Punta Cana): weddings@dreamspalmbeachpuntacana.com.do

Dreams Punta Cana: weddings@dreamspuntacana.com.do

I have had 6 people cancel out on not attending, my brother wont be attending because of our argument and that means no ring bearer for him as his son was my ring bearer. One of my groomsmen is paranoid so he is refusing to go, Im soo upset.

I will just play it by ear, my MOH is so supportive, she is like Im going to be there regardless of what is going on to support you.

Im trying to stay positive and just hope that this all goes away by the time we leave on May 11
Hey if you go to Atlantis, maybe i'll see you there- Riu is right next door and we're not coming back until the 13th.

and good news ladies- i finally heard back form Cecilia at Dreams and they are refunding my total deposit i had put down for the wedding (Thank God!)
good luck to you all :)

I am on the fence between moving our wedding or sticking it through. I am leaning more towards sticking it through and having my dream wedding at Dreams afterall. I emailed my travel agent out here about the situation and she has put my mind at ease... here is what she sent me

Hi Sylvia,

I’m sure you’ve been a bit stressed over this flu situation.

just want to share with you my recent experience as I actually just got back from an annual Mexico Tourism conference I attended in Acapulco where we meet with hotels from all over Mexico. I arrived there last Saturday and it was an interesting atmosphere to say the least since we were all there to sign 2010 contracts and discuss marketing opportunities and that’s pretty much when the news about the flu epidemic was released so that became our major topic of conversation. The feeling is that although the epidemic is real it is also very much sensationalized by the media, considering the millions of people living in Mexico and the number of cases that have been identified and number of people that have died, keeping in mind that in the US the average number of people that die during any given flu season is 36,000 (as reported by CNN). Unfortunately many people in Mexico are mal-nourished or don’t have the means for medication and that can lead to death when in most cases it is a very treatable disease as any other flu only that this one is a new strain that they are just identifying and hope to have a vaccine for within a couple months.

They also reported today that this flu has been very mild and this is the same way other flues have started in the past only that we did not have the type of media coverage we have nowadays to see it in real time.

There have been no cases of the flu identified in any of Mexico’s major beach resorts including Cancun and the entire state of Quintana Roo.

I’m sure we’ll continue to receive updates everyday and I’ll keep you posted if I hear anything new.

Best regards,

Teresa

In addition, I received this email from Cecilia Dumas

Cancunbride...im with you! Im not getting married until June 4th but im quite sure this will be old news by then and I haven't even thought about a Plan B. My family has been very supportive and have eased my mind that this will all work out. My brother said he is going...swine flu or not...he isnt going to let this ruin his vacation and neither am I. We had a few guests ask us what we were going to do and I reassured them that Cancun has not been affected. A coworker just returned on wed...said nobody even talks about it there. Hope all is well with all the future Dreams brides...stay strong and it will all work out!!

My TA spoke to Claudia who echoes these sentiments and frankly since MN just had its first confirmed case about an hour and a half from me I feel just as safe in Mexico where it is still 6 hours from Cancun. I am not looking into a plan B, but am considering trying to get some tamiflu before we fly out in case someone needs it. This too, is tentative. I am still hopeful that this will be old news by the time we fly out on the 8th of June. I've been speaking with friends who work in hospitals and clinics and it seems this is really like any other flu: treatable.
Hang in there ladies!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
