I just tried to come up with Plan-B, I am in contact with Atlantis the Resort in the Bahamas... Its a bit pricey but nothing in that side of the world is going on. lol I guess I can minimize my guests for those not wanting to attend and just have a small intimate ceremony. Its running about $150 pp and a 3500.00 venue fee. The rooms are alot less expensive running at 199.00 p/n

The hospitals will likely be flooded with patience experiencing symptoms of Pig Flu. I hate to be Debbie Downer but this is the reality of the situation. It is fine as long as you are quarantined to your hotel but you are at risk in any other situation.

Also, I just checked the some of the major airlines and this is what is posted:
Continental is providing the option to re-schedule or re-route your travel once, without penalty, if you are ticketed to/from one of the cities listed below.* If your flight has been cancelled, a refund to the original form of payment can be requested. If you are traveling using a OnePass Reward, redeposit fees will be waived. Travel must be completed by the original validity dates specified on the ticket and changes must be confirmed in the same class of service as the original ticket. The value of the ticket may also be used towards purchasing another Continental Airlines ticket.

Travel Dates:
April 24, 2009 — May 15, 2009

Cancun and all other cities in Mexico Continental Flies is on the list. This is also the same for Delta and other major airlines.
Cheer up my wedding twin! In six weeks this will be old news and our weddings will be beautiful. The media is making this worse than it is and Mexico City is 6+ hours from Dreams... a long way. My guests are calling me too, but I just tell them to calm down and wait it out. I know easier said than done, but I CANNOT spend the next six weeks worrying about all that could go wrong. I am still planning on moving forward as scheduled and I hope that it works out!

Though I may have some confort in knowing our wedding is a few months away...and I certainly feel horrible for those brides going to Mexico from out of the United States, my prayers and deepest sympathies are with you. However, to everyone, please keep a cool and level head about this. This is a stressful time, and in my opinion, there is no need....no sense...in worring about the unknown. Lets deal with what we know and make no assumptions. Take things day by day, and know that your fellow brides are here to support you. Look at the numbers. i dont know how many of you watch CNN or any of the other news channels, but fromt what I gather, this Swine Flu is not as dangerous and deadly as the regular flu. All countries world wide are taking substantial steps toward getting this resolved. If anyone needs someone to talk to, turn to your fellow brides. We are all here for eachother....some more than others of course....but we can understand, sympathize, and offer any input if you need it.

With all that said, on a similar topic, everyone on this site has a lot of stress to a certain extent. At least those of us with upcoming weddings. Please, please, please....everyone watch your tone with your comrades. Some people say things they dont mean, others just use a poor choice of words. If that is the case and you notice it, be polite and professional about it. Making someone feel like crap because they used poor judgement in wording is counter productive. Rather, if you have something mean to say, say it in a private message or bite your tongue. Stress creates poor judgement, and stress can be cured by support. So lets all be friendly and kind with eachother, though, sometimes we may not want to :)

HAPPY PLANNING!!!
HUH?! I don't even know where this came from or what it means...

Our BM's company also said he wouldn't be able to go back to work if he traveled to Mexico and i have a couple other guests that are in remission from cancer with NO immune system and their doctor's said "no way in hell" could they go. So yesterday (one of the most stressful days of my life!) we decided to change everything- cancel dreams and find a new resort that still has availability and flights for everyone. So after all of my guests and myself spending hours on the phone trying to change everything we finally all got re-booked. We're now getting married at thr Riu in Paradise Island in the Bahamas. I was soooo upset (to say the least) but Riu is a great resort and i guess i need to accept it and move on. I'll be sure to post my review and pics when we get back- we're leaving Sunday!!!

Good luck to all of you Dreams brides and those who are still going- don't worry it's just the flu! unfortunately for me i would have been the only one at my wedding if i had stayed with Dreams. oh well-everything happens for a reason.

I am so sorry to hear that, but you have the right attitude. Keep it up, the bahamas will be beautiful and so too will your wedding day!

Destination, I totally agree with you. The media is totally blowing this WAY out of proportion. In 6 weeks, this should be totally under control and I believe all the borders will be completely opened up. As soon as the media has a new and improved story/controversy, we wont hear anything else about the Swine Flu. Good thing is that I havent seen or heard anything on the news about anyone in Cancun being diagnosed with Swine...but maybe you all have heard something different. I am just taking it day by day and trying to keep the stress level down. Thats about all I can do.

Please remember the severity of a situation is controlled by the media. I have friends with immediate family in Mexico and it is so much worse than what you have seen. I am 6 weeks out from my wedding but it takes several months for a medicine to be tested and then set forth into motion to cure or even control a contagious disease. Who knows where this will have spread in this window of time as far as mexico is concerned.

I only hope that you are all being realistic and REALLY looking into an Plan B. I, personally, after thinking long and hard while crying my eyes out about this and getting my other options as far as hotels are likely setting plan B into motion tomorrow. I would never have a good time in Mexico knowing what I do now. It is too stressful to worry about it. I really wish you all the best and hope and pray that for your sake I am wrong and all of your weddings will be wonderful. Good luck to you all. XOXO

I feel the same way you feel. My wedding is 5/30 and I was going to wait it out but that really is not going to assure that people are going to feel comfortable to travel so soon. I am in the process of Plan B but don't know where to start because I don't like the wedding site at Dreams Punta Cana.

I just want to have a good time and planned excursions in which I don't want to be confined to a hotel on my vacation.

This is a really hard decision with not a lot of time, I could not sleep last night. I am so glad to have you guys to talk to because you are the only ones that truly understand.

I am just so stressed. I am going to schedule an appt for massage today. I really need to relax

My wedding is May 14, 2009 and I have looked for plan B. I contacted Atlantis and it is an arm and a leg to get married there and I dont think I can pull it off in one week. They dont do anything for you but take your money and provide you with table linens. Everything else you have to do, they hand you over a list of vendors and you have to contact them yourself. I have had 6 people cancel out on not attending, my brother wont be attending because of our argument and that means no ring bearer for him as his son was my ring bearer. One of my groomsmen is paranoid so he is refusing to go, Im soo upset.

I will just play it by ear, my MOH is so supportive, she is like Im going to be there regardless of what is going on to support you.

Im trying to stay positive and just hope that this all goes away by the time we leave on May 11

aww BIG HUGS to all the may brides being affected by the flu! totally sucks- everyone has put so much time into planning! I know you all must be so stressed out but we are here for you! I was talking to ppl at work about this and theres 4 girls that got married in the Dominican in Punta Cana, all last year. and they all recommended going there- beautiful resorts and the resorts are usually affordable so hopefully you wouldnt have to pay extra. I was in Peurta Plata last year and saw a wedding there too- they had a sweet gazebo and excellent food all week.

Good luck! our thoughts are with you all

First off, I am so sorry that this is happening to you. It really stinks that after all this planning, the wedding venue isn't going to work. I have never been to the Dominican, but many people seem to love it. Dreams also has a resort in La Romana. Did you look at that one?

My wedding isn't until November, but I figure better safe than sorry so I started looking into a plan B as well. I contacted the Riu Paradise Island in the Bahamas and their weddings are very affordable...just an idea.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!

I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
