Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this will help but I just came back from Cancun yesterday and here is some info that I received from people that work and live in Cancun. As far as the drug cartel and the kidnappings Cancun's hotel area is a strip much like South Beach so if something were to happen there are only 2 points of exit and both are manned pretty well by cops. Albeit there still are plenty of petty drug dealers at night hanging by the clubs they are really not looking for trouble. As far as the flu virus honestly we had no idea this was going on till I turned on the TV on Saturday night and so it on CNN. We got there Wednesday. Also I was preparing myself for a complete Q&A once we got to customs in NY but they didn't even check our bags. All they did was give us a memo pretty much saying to stay home if we felt ill. I feel if it was that serious customs would have been a lot harder on a full flight from Mexico. Lastly most hotels, Dreams is one of them, house there employees on a property off site. These employees only go to THEIR homes on forlough once a month, otherwise they are on site the rest of the time. So that eased my mind a little as far as the virus spreading from employee to quest.

I am so depressed I ate a whole pizza last night! I need to snap out. My few concerns are first being at the airport with sick people. I have several friends with small children at home. After the little boy dying in Texas this am, this is a major concern for parents with young children. There is also the matter of someone having to receive medical attention while in Cancun. The hospitals will likely be flooded with patience experiencing symptoms of Pig Flu. I hate to be Debbie Downer but this is the reality of the situation. It is fine as long as you are quarantined to your hotel but you are at risk in any other situation.

Also, I just checked the some of the major airlines and this is what is posted:

Continental is providing the option to re-schedule or re-route your travel once, without penalty, if you are ticketed to/from one of the cities listed below.* If your flight has been cancelled, a refund to the original form of payment can be requested. If you are traveling using a OnePass Reward, redeposit fees will be waived. Travel must be completed by the original validity dates specified on the ticket and changes must be confirmed in the same class of service as the original ticket. The value of the ticket may also be used towards purchasing another Continental Airlines ticket.

Travel Dates:

April 24, 2009 — May 15, 2009

Cancun and all other cities in Mexico Continental Flies is on the list. This is also the same for Delta and other major airlines.

Oh alive and well!! On the topic of stress, especially with this new Swine Flu kick-off, I just want to send out some special comments to all of our fellow brides. Though I may have some confort in knowing our wedding is a few months away...and I certainly feel horrible for those brides going to Mexico from out of the United States, my prayers and deepest sympathies are with you. However, to everyone, please keep a cool and level head about this. This is a stressful time, and in my opinion, there is no need....no sense...in worring about the unknown. Lets deal with what we know and make no assumptions. Take things day by day, and know that your fellow brides are here to support you. Look at the numbers. i dont know how many of you watch CNN or any of the other news channels, but fromt what I gather, this Swine Flu is not as dangerous and deadly as the regular flu. All countries world wide are taking substantial steps toward getting this resolved. If anyone needs someone to talk to, turn to your fellow brides. We are all here for eachother....some more than others of course....but we can understand, sympathize, and offer any input if you need it.

With all that said, on a similar topic, everyone on this site has a lot of stress to a certain extent. At least those of us with upcoming weddings. Please, please, please....everyone watch your tone with your comrades. Some people say things they dont mean, others just use a poor choice of words. If that is the case and you notice it, be polite and professional about it. Making someone feel like crap because they used poor judgement in wording is counter productive. Rather, if you have something mean to say, say it in a private message or bite your tongue. Stress creates poor judgement, and stress can be cured by support. So lets all be friendly and kind with eachother, though, sometimes we may not want to :)

HAPPY PLANNING!!!

Hey girls...

Just wanted to let you know things for me are not as great as they were...

I just got cancellation from one of my groomsmen not being able to attend. He stated that HIS COMPANY isnt allowing him to travel to Cancun.. lol Are you serious? This isnt work related, this is personal time. Anyhow, I know hes paranoid about going but tossing me a lame excuse about his job not letting him go... oh well!! I understand if your paranoid but to make it a bigger deal than what it is is hurtful. We had 2 groomsmen men flying into Mexico City and my TA was able to get them direct flights into Cancun Airport which was great. My entire wedding party is still excited about going.

IM stocking up on anti bacterial liquid, baby wipes, and Emergen-C.

My brother and myself have gotten into an argument because he decides to get drunk at my bridal shower and make a complete a$$ out of himself has texed me he is not attending and wont be in my wedding party. My nephew is my ring bearer and he will not be attending either.. Im super sad!!!

FI says that at this point it doesnt really matter who goes as long as we are there, that's all that matters

He's right stuff the lot of them if they are being total arses. As for your brother let him stew on it he might change his mind and if he doesn't well at least you won't be worrying about him being a drunken arse at the actual wedding lol

Thats kind of the same mentality we have at this point. We think that if you dont want to go, and all you want to do is make excuses, then piss off! At least we are gonna be there enjoying the beautiful white sand beaches, sipping on our Coco Loco's, eating a ton of great food, getting a nice tan, etc, etc. To us, there are more "pros" to going than "cons." I am horrible at mathematics, but I guess Im just a numbers person...what is the liklihood that me or my family are going to catch the "Swine Flu." We are more likely to catch Montezumas Revenge than anything. (For those of you who dont know what that is, its an illness some people get when they travel to Mexico because they eat bad food off their resort, or drink unbottled water, etc, etc. You basically have flu-like symptoms...fever, stomach aches and pains, dehydrated, diahrrea, etc.)

But it is aggravating, hearing all the lame ass excuses people come up with. Last month, my mom wanted to cancel because she was worried about the drug cartel people shooting her. WOW!!! Cancun is a tourist destination!! Ok, im done now :)

I was in tears and upset because it was all going downhill but in reality, I can careless whos all going now, if they come, they come, if they dont, sorry!! Its all about me and having a fairytale wedding. My MOH is going to call my guests to reconfirm that they are still attending and if they are not, better for us, we can save some cash!!!

Hello everyone,

I have searched on this thread for reviews on the free wedding packages. Is anyone doing the free wedding with the ceremony and the reception at Dreams Cancun?

I just need information on how the reception setup will work - is going to be semi-private like in a terrace of the restaurant or is it going to be right inside the restaurant with other people and kids running around? Please help!

*Frustrated*

Thanks!

Ladies,

Don't panic. My fiance just came back from Mexico. He was there in the middle of the flow outbreak. All of them (fiance and friends) came back with no signs of flu. Considering this is a resort, I would not worry about it.

For those who are getting married in May - I think it will be a beautiful time to get married and regardless of whether your guests will come or not, as long as your close family members attend, that's all that would matter to me. If anything, the resort will most likely not be too crowded and you and your guests will be able to enjoy the resort and be able to eat at all the a la carte restaurants without making advance reservations.

Think about it - the salon/spa will not be crowded. The reception area will not be crowded! And because of the low tourism due to the flu, I bet the WC will likely cater to your needs better. Maybe get better deals on a DJ/photographer?

This is as an opportunity!

All the best with your weddings! Be sure to share your stories!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
