Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

My name is Joanna and I'm getting married at Dream Cancun May 20th I think...I got my contract from Gaby but when I emailed her asking about the deposit she still hasn't replied...that was about a week ago! We've already put our deposit down for our flight and hotel so I'm hoping everything is okay with the wedding date! Grrrr is so frustrating since you can't ever get a hold of Gaby in person!

Anyway, I'm planning to have the reception on the beach...does anyone know if it might be too windy to have it on the beach?

Thanks

The issue of the deposit seems to be all over the place. I didnt give a deposit until a few months ago and my wedding is in November 2008. Some girls had to give deposits WAY in advance. Dont be too concerned with it! You have your contract so thats great!

From what I have read about the beach reception yes it is windy but not too windy to ruin the time. Its not like sand is in your eyeballs. Thats where we are doing out reception so I can let you know in a month or so.

Here's some information I received from Claudia about the cigar roller & signature drinks and some other misc stuff.....

ME: Ok what is the extra cost over 20 people to do a signature drink for our toast?

CLAUDIA: $ 3.50 usd per person

(I do not want to do the champagne toast, I never really like wedding champagne anyway, thinking of asking her if they will do Sangria for everyone? What do you girls think?!)

ME: Thank you for the attachments but there isnâ€t any pricing listed anywhere about the Cigar roller – it only says there is a 25 minimum, do you have any further information on the per piece cost? When will this take place? During the ceremony would be our preference.

CLAUDIA: thay have different prices from $ 10 usd - $ 30 usd each.

Does anyone else think this is a crazy price? I think I would rather go buy some cigars in Cancun and have them at the wedding.

ME: In regards to the cake we are doing a tres leches cake – can this kind of cake be layered? How many layers can be made? If the regular cake serves 20 and is one layer, would each layer feed about 20 people??

CLAUDIA: for a tres leches cake it is better 2 layers cake because is very milky

ME: Ok how many people does a 2 layer cake feed?

CLAUDIA: @ 30 people

So if I have more than 30 people what do I do about cake? Any advice?

I had a two layer cake and it would have fed way more than 30. It was pretty big. Also, probably only half of the people there had some.. I wouldn't worry about it. As for the cigars, there is a cigar shop in the mall right down the road. Ryan hit it up a few times. There is also a cigar shop at dreams but the cigars are pretty pricey. I think Ryan got a few there one time and spent about sixty bucks. As for the toast. We didn't have champagne either we just had everyone toast with whatever they were already drinking. Mostly because we forgot to let the waiters know we were about to toast lol. Oh well, I don't think anybody cared.

Seriously I didnt think they were that pricey!! I asked her if we could do Sangria, I will let you all know what she says when I hear back!

Thats what I was thinking but instead of the flowers, she credited us for an upgraded cake, so I figure I will take the biggest one HAHA and get those little cake boxes for people to take cake with them?

Thanks Kat, We are going to get cigars outside of the resort for sure!! I am also thinking of DIY matchbooks with our logo??

Ah, should I bother with the toast?? We figure his BM/Bro is going to do one so we might as well have something?

before doing all the DIY work, i'd check into whether you'll be able to take them with you to mexico ... i thought i read something on here before about not being able to take matches on the plane? maybe it was just carry-on rules?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
