I have read from a previous post that it is better to get a package because everything separately really adds up. But I am only having 16 people, I am bringing my own centerpieces and don't need any of the gazebo décor (with the exception of the chair covers) so I am torn. I just wish I had some more options to choose from. OK sorry for rambling on.

Did anyone opt to do something other than the packages posted on the Dreams site?
I bet once you get there you could talk to her about "comping" you for the four people you won't have. Say each person is an extra 60 bucks then you have about 240 bucks to bargain with. Maybe get your sound system for the ceremony.

I have a few questions, I've read MOST of the forum and I don't know if these have come up...sorry if they are repeats!!

-Did anyone need a handicapped room? One of my guests has a really difficult time getting around, and we were thinking of booking a handicapped room...I've been waiting FOREVER for Dreams to get me a picture of what they look like. (On that same note, how difficult would it be for a person with difficulty walking to get around Dreams?)

-We're trying to do a live webcam feed for people who aren't able to make it. Dreams says that they'll have it up and running by April of '09...but has anyone else been able to pull it off? How did you do it?

-A few travel websites that I've read about have said that Dreams sometimes overbooks and people get kicked out and moved to other hotels. Did that happen to anyone?

-With guest passes...I know Kat said that she didn't need them, but did anyone else manage to get them for free or at a lower rate? My travel agent said that they've done it before, but I didn't know how cheap they would be willing to go!

Sorry so many questions!!! It's still a whole year away and I'm already bouncing off the walls waiting for it to come!

My gramps came and he did okay. the place is pretty big and the floors do get pretty slick. For the wedding, he actually was able to borrow a wheel chair from Dreams. I'm not sure if they have them available all the time, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
As for the overbooking, we had no problems.
All of our guest stayed at Dreams so we didn't have anyone with day passes.
And NO idea about the webcam!!

Yea, Chris (hubby) totally ate it the day before the wedding. He was running and he did a Charlie Brown right on his back. Ouch!! He still managed to carry me through the threshold on our wedding night but he was in a lot of pain!! Be careful!!!

Hey Kat..I have a question about the Pirate Cruise....I really like that Idea for my Rehearsel/Welcome Dinner....But I was wondering if you think it's worth it? I am going to probably have about5 kids there...2 very young...Do you think it would be too big of a Hassel with about 30 people? I know you said it was really crowded. I wanted to do something different for them...But I don't want it to be a whole big ordeal!! :-) Can you get a Private cruise?

I wouldn't reccommend taking little kids. They seriously had 200ish people on there. It was worth it for a bunch of adults though. We had a great time. I just think if kids do lose interest it's a three hour cruise and it would be a hassle for their parents. I know there are private dinner cruises you could look into. Here is one I found. Might not be as crazy as the Pirate Cruise. But then again... the kids may love it. There was one kid that I saw on our cruise and he seemed to have a good time.

Hmm...Thanks..I was thinkin that..I remember in your review you said how crowded it was. 2 of the kids will only be two and it probably won't be worth it. I did look into that Cancun cruise thing. I think We may just decide when we get down there as far as the rehersal dinner. I wanted to do something different and special as kind of a "Thank You" so hopefully I will find whatever it is I'm looking for!! LOL
Maybe I can just see if anyone wants to do the pirate thing another night on our own:-)

We want to act like the legal marriage here in Rockford, IL is not a real wedding until we have the ceremony in Cancun if you know what I mean. Any further information you can provide? Kat, I noticed that your response differed. Can you expand further? Thanks all!!
That's exactly what we'll be doing, paper work is done in New York, and sand ceremony in Cancun! You get all the ceremony details like a normal wedding ceremony, like an officiant.

Kat thought you want a REAL ceremony, which you'll need to get all your paper translate, blood test, and be there 4 days ahead.

hi...i am getting married at Dreams Cancun in November 2009. My fiance and I hired an outside photographer - Claudie Rodriguez (google her name). Her pictures look so nice! My fiance has been reading some of the threads and found that the photographer that comes with the package is not that great (i guess). We didn't want to chance it, so we hired someone else. The pictures are so important....good luck!

We mixed between the silver and gold buffet... but I know that we had lobster bisque soup and thats on the platinum menu and we definitely didn't pay extra. The soup was awesome but if you're eating outside, it's kinda heavy for hot weather if that makes any sense!
We had the Caribbean mixed greens and the caesar salads... both were good but it's salad so I don't have a very strong opinion.
Entree we did the surf and turf which was okay but kinda dry and didn't have a lot of flavor and then a chicken dish which i don't see on the menu but it was awesome!! It had like spinach and cheese or something but everyone loved it. I didn't try any of the deserts but heard good things. We went with the tres leche cake and while it is very moist and kinda looks like it's going to just moosh up, it was quite good.
Hope that helps!!
I had wedding nightmares too... don't worry, everything will be great!!

THANK you for all of this. It is so weird, this is not the menu I chose from. I'm going to have to ask Gaby because there are a few yummy sounding things on here! My choices for the entree were seabass, fajitas and rum butter chicken and you get three choices-- so I was just going to have all of them. I wouldn't mind having steak instead of fajitas because you can probably get that at one of the restuarants (not that you can't get steak but it is Mexico afterall!) and that salmon sounds delish.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
