Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

Well I finally heard back from Claudia and she said I would need to pay the deposit for the wedding package (May 8, 2009) by April 15th 2008.....I wasn't expecting that to be so soon!! I asked if I could have an extension!

WOW and the cake that is included is NOT the one of the ones in the pictures I have seen. Those all cost extra.

Also I asked if we bring our own flowers if we can get a credit say towards the cake or something and she said no credits - but I asked again, so (fingers crosses).

So yes, this is separate from the rooming cost, which is not even out yet.....

Our TA told us we didn't need to put a deposit down and when I asked claudia she said we didn't have to because our TA's agency is one of the largest bookers of weddings at dreams cancun. However, towards the end I was getting nervous because I hadn't given a deposit and a lot of other girls had, so I ended up sending half of the wedding package, but it wasn't until a month before the wedding. I think they usually do require 50% down unless you are working with an agent that they work with frequently.

Also, about getting credits for items you aren't using. It was tough to negotiate the credits, however, I thought of things that I wanted that were considered "extras" and tried to do an even swap for the things I wanted. So, I got the gazebo decor, a larger cake (which was pointless because no one ate it) there was something else too, I can't remember what.

Claudia sent me an email with ways to send her money and she doesn't even have a paypal account set up or anything she wants me to send her my credit card information...which like I said I'm not comfortable with, anyone could get ahold of that information that way, it's just not a very secure way of doing it. I'll get back to you with what else I find out. Let me know if you find out anything else as well.
hi girls.
we had to pay 50% before we got down there to secure everything. my dad sent a money order tothem. i guess it is pretty secure, but you never know. my dad was very nervous to do this, but it worked out ok.
we used a travel agent, but not for the wedding portion, only for travel/hotel.
hope that helps!

oh, forgot to mention, I did a wire transfer using the info claudia gave me and couldn't get confirmation from her that they had received it for weeks!!! I was 2 days away from leaving for my wedding and I finally called my TA and asked her to call claudia and find out what was going on and I got an answer within a few hours, so frustrating!!

I don't know what was so difficult about confirming that they received it, but I was so mad and I know it happened to a few other people too, so beware!

I thought I saw somewhere that someone got a DJ for around 220 per hour? Do you have to use the DJ she sent you or can you find your own?

We got a chocolate cake, we got a bigger one than included in the package, hardly anyone ate it because the meal came with dessert and I didn't think it was very good, so if its not that important to you, I wouldn't worry too much about the cake.

I got the flowers included in the package, they were beautiful.

Yes, I remember seeing that the DJ was MUCH cheaper....that is crazy - that rate should be total for almost 2hrs. How long was your reception? She said included is 3 hrs. Is that enough, sounds good to me because we can continue elsewhere :)

I was thinking the included cake was fine - just slap a cake topper on it and call it a day :)

The only thing about the flowers is that I wouldn't get to keep my bouquet, but I guess if she gives me a credit I will do it, if not just get 2 boquets?

I am sure I will have TONS of questions.....this is just the beginning!

yeah, the cake is really no big deal unless you're really into cake and even the upgraded one we got, was nothing special, I got it as a substitution for something else I didn't want in the package, so I would have been mad had I actually paid for the stupid ugly cake, lol!

I forgot to use my cake topper too! I found it in my suitcase the next day!

I think she says 3 hours are included. When I sent her my timeline, I didn't realize that, so I think I had 4 hours down in my timeline and she didn't say anything about paying extra. And to be honest, they don't kick you out or anything. Technically my reception should have been over at 9 or 10 and I know I didn't get back to my room until after midnight, we were down there the whole time.

But yes, if you're up to it, you can go continue elsewhere. By midnight I was whiped out, the day went by so fast!

I was really sad about not being able to keep my bouquet, especially since it was so beautiful We were at dreams one more day after the wedding and then moved to a different resort and I forgot my bouquet at dreams, I was so sad when I realized it, I would have liked to at least kept one flower from it.

You're welcome! Can't believe it worked for me. So funny that I had never seen the "included cakes" before. Did you see the other list? That one is NEW too!!

That's what I figured! I remember reading you forgot it! I am always doing something like that! I cannot wait to get things in line already. How far in advance did you book the photographer? We were thinking we would rather take them with us home to save than throw them away.

Did you have table decor? Candles and stuff - Claudia said they would set it up and it was included.....their centerpieces have gone up tremendously.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
