Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

One thing you will notice at the resort as a whole - and especially at your reception - is that unless you tell them to stop refilling your drink, you will continue to get drink after drink of the same thing.  This is great on the one hand because you don't see the bottom of the glass, but the bad thing is that you really have to let them know if you want to switch to a different drink.

Hmm - I will list out the items I brought with me:

- OOT (out of town bags)

- ceremony programs

- bubbles

- sand ceremony frame

- CD with ceremony music

- chair bows

- table runners

- colored napkins

- bought maracas at a Cancun flea market

- menu card

- donation card

- seashells & starfish

- escort cards

- cake topper

- engraved cake cutting set

All of these items are described in detail in my planning thread:

I think the chair bows, table runners, and napkins are a cheap and easy way to add color to your wedding and they don't take up much room in your suitcase.  The resort will rent these to you, but at ~4x the cost of just buying them yourself.  I don't regret any of the items I brought - though the programs, menu cards, and donation cards were likely tossed immediately or left behind.  The cake cutting set was a gift, but is of course entirely unnecssary.  I am glad I brought everything I did, but of course it is all a matter of personal taste.

First of all, congratulations on your beautiful wedding at Dreams!!!

My wedding is April 2012 and I have a few questions for you.

What are the items you brought to the resort with you for the wedding?

I know I can personalize everything but since my wedding is a small one with only direct family members, I just want to minimize all the trouble.

Are there anything that is absolutely necessary or better to bring to the resort regarding the preparation of the ceremony and reception?

Julie

My guess is that depends on where your cocktail hour and reception are located.  My cocktail hour was on the Terrace, so the waiters would just go in and get drinks from the bar in the lobby of the Tower.  My reception was on Himitsu beach right next to the bar attached to Himitsu to restaurant.

I can't say that I really saw the ballroom.  I know where they are located and I went into one of the rooms, but it was set up in such a way that I can't give you any idea what it would look like for a wedding.

You can tell there is a large room that they can break into segments to make different size rooms.  On Monday nights during NFL season, they set up the giant screen on the lagoon beach so people can lay on the lounge chairs and watch MNF.  Well, it was really windy on the Monday night I was there, so they set up to watch MNF in just one tiny segment of the ballroom.  They set up rows of chairs (with the white covers) pointed toward a projection screen.  The room definitely did not feel warm (though it was night) so I would assume they do have AC as well.  Hopefully Claudia will get back to you soon with some pictures of weddings in the ballroom.

[/quote Thanks! I think the beach receptions are lovely, but I have two guests that will be 90 when I get married and I worry about them walking on the sand.

Wow I haven't been on since August and had a lot of reading to catch up on! I think I would be so stressed out if I hadn't found this website. You girls have been so great with all the info and answering questions. Congrats to all of you who have gotten married recently! I have a question about flowers; do you decide on what flowers you want once you arrive and is there a lot to choose from?? Is there anyone getting married in February??

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
