I am a  (future) dreams cancun bride!! we are getting married on april 28, 2011.  Just getting started in the wedding process and there is so much good information on here!! we are definately on a tight budget; my most important details are PICTURES and FLOWERS.  I am bringing the chair bows and flower petals for the aisle and  I am thinking of getting my flowers from wedideas - anyone ever used them?  she gave me a great quote on the bouquet inspiration pic i sent her.

We are bringing a photog from  home (my only splurge of the entire wedding) - but i figure pictures are the only thing i will have left when its all over (that and my flowers loL)

I am having around 30 guests - has anyone not had a reception??  I think the theme i am going with here is laid back - and i really can't see spending 2000$ on basically food.  Have you ever heard of anyone just doing the ceremony (at the gazebo), having a toast, and cake (bring cake boxes so they can take it back with them) right after the ceremony, doing group pictures, then telling everyone to go eat and meet us back at one of the bars a few hours later?  we would go take pics and then eat with our bridal party at one of the restaurants?  i dunno - as i said i am just having a really hard time justifying buying one of the wedding packages for 2K - just so everyone can have dinner.

Welcome!! We are going to dreams on April 4th for our site visit! I am bummed we won't get to have a drinkl together!! Sounds like you have alot of things under control! You are the bride and it is your day so you do what fits your budget and what you want.

Just a thought, the packages actuially are a pretty good deal. I have no idea if you have seen the photographers work or not. his work is the most amazing I have ever seen. His name is Juan Navarro. His blog has amazing photos posted on it daily. http://www.juanphotos.com/

I hear Claudia switches things out in her package so maybe if you didn't take the photography you could add 10 more people for the food etc etc..I would email Claudia and tell her of your financial plight or call her and don't let them put you in her voicemail.

Or again, it is your wedding. If all you want is the ceremony...than go for it!

Thank you :)    The salon at dreams did an amazing job much better than I expected! I was pretty nervous as you can imagine but they did awesome!

Brianna, In my opinion, not having a reception would be a huge mistake!! Our reception was the highlight of our night!   If you would like to cut corners I would think about maybe opting for no cocktail hour and trading the cost for the extra guest at the wedding. That is what we did, we traded the cocktail hour for 10 extra guest (we had 40 total)  Claudia allowed us to trade the cocktail hour for the extra guest and saved us around $900.  Instead of the cocktail hour all of our guest hung out at one of the bars while we took our pictures and they were all fine with that.  But I agree your guest have travelled so far and spent $$ the reception is sort of a thank you to them. Plus who wouldnt want to party and dance the night away with all your closest and most loved friends!! thats the reason we chose a destination wedding right?! :)

You get about 90 minutes with him & we paid 300 for the CD's...there were 3 CD's with hundreds of pics.

My flowers were silk flowers from sharonnagassar.com They came out beautiful I loved them.   And funny enough my hair flower came from Claires!  I searched and searched for months for the perfect hair flower then one day 2 days before we left for Cancun I was in the mall and stopped by a Claire's store and Voila! Found it. smile29.gif

oh my goodness, we really had such similar weddings!!! i got my hair flower at clairs too, lol!! great minds think alike!

Briannarae23 ...I would definately find a way to have a reception.  we had soooooo much fun eating together and dancing the night away, and it was our way of thanking our guests for spending their time and money to come celebrate our wedding.  it might come off as a little rude if you just tell everyone to go eat and meet up later that night.  maybe you could do a semi-private dinner at one of the restaurants like we did for our welcome dinner.  we were charged $15 per person (including tax and tip) and still had tables set up for all of us to sit together.  i chose the entire menu for that night b/c i wanted to print cute menus, but claudia told me i could chose the main entree and each guest could chose the app and desert they wanted.  you wouldnt be able to have a dj or dancing in this case, but you could always go to the little club after dinner and party.  our actual wedding reception ended at nine and everyone went upstairs to change and we all met up at the club and partied till 2am, we had a blast!!

jana...the package calls for 90 mins to 2 hours,  i emailed juan directly before the wedding and he agreed to come to my room 30 mins before the ceremony to take some "getting ready" pics.  DH and I decided to add 2 hours to the package and we're extremely glad we did this!! we ended up with 150 printed pics and over 1200 on our cds!  they are AMAZING!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
