Gorgeous!

I know right.  I don't know if it's the one you are talking about, but there is one that is angled to view the hurricane boulders, but magically there is water there now!!!! I agree on the photoshop!  That does get me mad because brides are going to see that and get the big surprise later.  At least I new what it looked like before I chose so I could learn to cope.  I think they even have that old gazebo pic still there, the one that made us all fall in love.  LOL

Chipotle, I will try recycledbride.  Thanks for reminding me, I always look at the used wedding sites for other stuff, never think of veils.

Gotta vent for a sec.  I overheard my FMIL on the phone talking about how we are using her niece's children as small parts in the wedding (aside from flower girl/ring bearer pics).  REALLY?!?!?  That's news to me, and to FI!  I love people who not only plan other ppls wedding, but are now appointing bridal party members.  Geesh!  But see, I don't want to crush a little kids spirit who is all excited to be in a wedding.  And I don't want any battles.  Maybe I can give them a bell to ring?  Any thoughts?

And Chris, yes, I hate that!  My grandma told my 2 cousins (15 and 16 years old) that I really wanted them to be my bridesmaids, then I heard they were excited about choosing dresses.  I couldn't take it, and had to tell them no! I felt horrible, but I have only 3 BM's because I only wanted my BFF's there with me and no one else, I felt like such an evil person, but really it's grandma who should feel guilty, not me.  Same thing with you, don't feel bad, no one should be doing that!

Carolina,

I'm getting married in two months at Dreams.  I have followed this site, but since they switched to the new one I will admit, I'm a little confused.  Wondered if you or anyone else one here could answer a couple of questions I have that Claudia has not gotten back to me on.

1.  Flowers for the wedding- I'm doing the ultimate package, so I have to still order my bridesmaid bouquets and like 2 corsages and 2 boutineries.  I did not like any of the options that Claudia sent me for my flowers or others.  I sent her what I want and asked price and still have not heard back.  Wondered what everyone else was doing.  The resort's prices seem high and also wondered if someone else has sent a picture of what they want and really got it?

2.  Reception centerpieces- We have about 35 guests and I am doing the reception on the club Terrace.  Wondered if they provide flowers for the round tables for my guest(figured there would be 5-6 tables plus the head table) or do I need to bring decorations for the tables?  Claudia did tell me they would take my chair sashes and transfer them to the reception, just didn't know if I should bring my own?

3.  Shipping gift bags and decorations- Are you shipping your stuff ahead of time?  I considered this so I don't have to carry as much?

4.  I also had to trade out my cocktail party to get an additional 10 guests, but still need to pay for 5 people.  I tried to switch out the mariachi band and the wedding cake.  Claudia gave me gazebo decorations for the mariachi band, but nothing for the cake.  I did tell her I knew some people got 15 extra dinners for the cocktail party, but she wouldn't budge.  Just wanted some advice.

5.DJ- I really want the DJ, but it just seems soooo high.  $180 for the ceremony and then $280/hour.  I budgeted for 3 hours, plus the ceremony and I think it's 11% tax, so I have about $1133 budgeted.  Any advice on this one?  I have a lot of people that love to dance and party coming and I can see them wanting more then 3 hours, since at least an hour of that is dinner?

Okay I guess that is it.  I have two months left and feel the pressure now that it is here.  My dress doesn't even come in until about 2 weeks before we leave and it needs to be taken in.  Hope you are all prepared and I'm with you, ready for a vacation.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Shannon

Holy crap, you do have 2 months left, I was thinking that's really soon, then I saw your date, 11-11-10, and I freaked out a little too.  I'm 11-13-10!  So maybe I'll run into your wedding there! :)

Ok...I'll try to help you out.

1. Flowers:  I'm doing the bridal bouquet with them that's included, for all other flowers, I got an outside florist/WC that has realistic prices (Dreams quoted me $80 for the BM bouquets, this woman quoted me $25).  I'm also using her for gazebo decorations and my reception decorations, I just have to pay the $100 outside vendor fee, but her prices make up for that over and over again.

2. Reception centerpieces: Again, most definitely NOT included.  Dreams quoted me $180 and Carolina got quoted over $200 PER centerpiece.  I'm getting them from the florist/WC for $50 a pop, really pretty high ones too with calla lilis and pink roses.  I feel like I'm advertising for her and I swear she's not paying me! lol, she just does an awesome job and is making everything I wanted possible within my budget.  She responds to emails the same day too, so I feel a lot more secure.  She may still be available for your date since it's not on a weekend, see her website here: http://www.floresjulieta.mex.tl/217534_rental-centerpieces.html

3. Shipping:  I thought about that, but heard it's a nightmare.  If you do a search on the forum, you will see, most people felt like it was a major nightmare to ship stuff, their things would get confiscated at customs, and you have to pay up to 300% the claimed value to get it back (taxes of course).  If anything is labeled made in China, it's not allowed in. I'm doing carry on.

4.  Cocktail for dinner:  I only got 10 too, haven't heard of anyone getting more than that.  The included cake is so small, you could prob get a tray of cookies at most for it.  I'd just keep it and have it be extra cake.

5.  DJ- I was being careful with this too as it seems like a lot to spend.  But then, it's your WEDDING, and even $1000 isn't a lot to spend on your wedding day.  The DJ really makes the party, that's what people will be talking about forever, the fun and dancing.  If you're really on a budget and absolutely can't, I'd suggest continuing the dance party at the Dreams club or something.

Good luck and congrats on having your dress taken in! lol, wish I could say the same!

OK Mari and Shannon -

You ladies have me stresing, I am getting married on 11-3-10 and you have made me realise I have around 2 months also!!!

We have booked the Ultimate Package but due to issues in work alot of people can't attend and there will now be just 16 of us and that includes the children!! - however we are still planning on having the DJ and dancefloor, even though its really expensive we think it will be what we all remember having a drink and a dance.....

Mari - I have a very small veil, just like a birdcage veil, it looked good with my dress when I tried it on..... well I have to lose at least 20lb for the dress to come close to looking good, I ordered it 2 sizes to small and when I collected it last week I couldn't breath in it... holy smokes and know I realise I only have about 8 weeks to go!

Thanks for the details on the florist - I am definately going to contact her - wonder if I will have to pay and outside vendor fee if she is just dropping off bridesmaids bouquets?  MAybe be cheaper to rent a car and drive and collect them then have to pay the $100 vendor fee -

Well thanks Ladies - have a great weekend :)
Take care

Tori

LOL, I did the same thing!  Ordered my dress 2 sizes too small...have been working out like mad for the past 3 weeks and lost 5lbs, this is a lot harder than I thought :(  I refuse to pay for alterations though, have about 20lbs to go too, just for my zipper to close!  We can do it right?

I think if the flowers are delivered to the hotel front desk, there is no vendor fee.  You could prob also meet her like riiiight outside the hotel and bring them in yourself!  I'm over dreams trying to rip me off...everything is waaay expensive.  And for the number of weddings they do a year, they have no need to be ripping off brides!

Alright, gotta get my workout in...and gotta stop eating as much sushi as I do, all that rice cannot be helping.  :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
