Dreams Cancun - Questions for those married here!

Recommended Posts

You all have beautiful attidudes! Sorry, but I kind of vented on facebook. Not for me, but for all you recent/soon to be brides affected. Carolina and Meldal.. I said hi to you guys on the gazebo comment thread yesterday (right after you guys discovered eachother). I was the one that vented that huge paragraph! Now I see there are more recent complaints there. Oh joys. The little Gazebo is actually really cute, and if you photography out toward the ocean, there will be no blue tarps... and a wider ocean view with no rocks (small bonus right?!?!)

Hey Ladies!!

I am really sorry that all of you april brides are going through this!! You shouldn't have to be, and they should have gave you some warning.

My Advice would be to contact your WC somehow and start getting things in writing. You basically know that you won't have the original Gazebo in the area that you booked, so start asking for copensation...Extra decorations..ETC....Same thing for the brides who wanted the terrance for their reception. Even if you change your mind when you get there and thing everything is fine as is, at least you will have some confirmation in writing to change certain things at no extra cost to you.

I saw the pic of the "New" beach on the facebook page yesterday and it made me sad

:-( That is one area that i thought they would never change. As I said before, I am sure it's still as beautiful as it was and it's still an awesome spot.

Good luck girls! Don't worry too much. This time last year we were dealing with that HUGE Swine Flu outbreak and freaking out, worried about people cancelling, worrying about getting sick, or one of our guests getting sick..It was crazy...So be thankful that you have things that you can kind of control.

Your Weddings will all be beautiful and your going to have an awesome time no matter what!! I can't wait to see pictures & read the reviews

Hi Girls,

I am new to this forum after finding about all that is going on at Dreams!

I am due to get married on the 1st June, so have a little time, but still I am nervous about the new gazebo.

I have a few questions, for people that possibly have already married there?

We have a party of about 20 people joining us, and I have decided that its not enough people to have a DJ and dance floor etc, i was wondering if any one was able to tell me, if it is possible to book a table at one of the entertainment bars after our meal??

Also, the entertainment at the hotel any good?

I have asked the WC, but she seems to be ignoring the question!

Thank you!

To be honest, the entertainment at the hotel mainly consists of people singing and playing music in the main lobby bar. They do have some form of entertainment each night, but you have to go next door to Azucar Bar. The only thing we went to was the Hypnotist and he was awesome. We mostly just sat around the Lobby bars at night and hung out.
I was a little dissapointed in the night life at dreams, but I guess because the clubs aren't that far away & they have one right next door, they figured they didn't have to do much on site.

The Azucar bar seemed pretty unlively at night after the entertainment was done though. The night of my Wedding was 80's night, so a bunch of people went there when the wedding was over (about 10ish) and they said 80's night was over and their was no one in there really sad.gif Might be funn for your wedding reception though!! hahahaha

They are just talking about the entertainment at night. I'm preety sure they have alot of activities throughout the day...beach volleyball, yoga, snorkeling etc. I believe the resort sends out a schedule of daily activities the night before so you'll be aware of whats happening the following day :)

I am spending the majority of my days tanning and sipping on some drinks!!!

My group didn't participate in the activities....just enjoyed the sun, drinks, and food! They have a schedule with the activities like yoga, volleyball, bingo, etc so if your group wants to join in it could be fun. As for the club next door I wouldn't rely on that for an after party location unless you have a really lively group. Of course I'm sure it depends on what time of year you're there but in November there wasn't a soul in there if there wasn't a show. Plus you only get 2 free drinks so the free party won't last too long. If you take the party off the resort to one of the nearby clubs you're looking at $40-50 a person for a cover and the night life doesn't pick up until at least 11 or later. I'd suggest at least taking an ipod and renting the speakers to make your own party...

Attention April/May Dreams Cancun Brides!!!!!

You may be in for a surprise if you have an upcoming wedding at this resort. We have just returned from our wedding on Apr 10. Let us start by saying our friends and family would all consider us very laid back people and very low maintenance.

We picked this wedding site a year ago, and even traveled to Dreams 6 months ago to check the locale out. We specifically asked at that time if there would be and construction/changes planned. Answer was no. When we arrived at the resort, we were upgraded to a towers room. However, the room overlooked the disastrous construction site where our special day was to take place. Our gazebo had been torn down!! Yes, the beautiful gazebo that is still up on the website is now gone. There was a huge blue tarp covering the now construction zone known as our wedding site. In addition, the beautiful surrounding area had changed. There were several hundred yards of huge concrete blocks with rebar sticking out, forming a new jetty that was quite unnatural appearing. The private adjacent beach where our reception was to be held was completely redone and built up so that it was not quite so private and communicated with the other resorts. Again, no planned changes as they told us. We immediately had a meeting with several managers (bride in tears of course). When I asked why they had withheld all of this information, they claimed it had all been done only 5 days prior. This was later found to be a complete lie as the local photographer who is at the resort 3-4 days weekly told me positively that it had been 25-26 days for the gazebo, much longer for the new jetty. We demanded that other arrangements be made as the bride would be wearing high heels and a beach wedding was not what we had been planning for a year. We ultimately decided to have our wedding at a sister resort (Now Resort) which was about a 45 min drive south. They provided a charter bus to transport our 50 guests. The wedding was nice there, although not what we had planned for so long and not what we were planning to bring our family/friends from another country to see. We proceeded to have meetings every other day or so with the wedding planner (Cecilia who was pretty good) and her boss (Rafael who was not so honest about timing of gazebo construction). As one can imagine, this made for a pretty stressful week prior to our wedding. One of the meetings was the day of the wedding, and finally another several days after. At each meeting was what we considered an insulting small discount on our botched wedding. In the meantime as our guests arrived, almost every guest was told at the desk that there were no rooms available for them. Some of them were upgraded after putting up a fuss in order to get a room. Many of them were not so fortunate and had to be put up in other hotels. The grooms own mother was not even staying at Dreams on our wedding day!

We finally had our room relocated away from the construction site reminder and were placed back near the dolphins. In the end, we paid a portion of our initial wedding bill. We were not offered a return voucher stay in the future even though we inquired about it several times. Overall the experience was quite traumatic. We felt they were intentionally deceitful before we arrived, then lied to our faces directly, and ultimately gave very little to zero effort to attempt to make up for it or try to make us feel happy or special in any way. It also rained the last 3 days of our 12 day trip resulting in several leaks in our room and many other across the property including the world cafe (only place open for breakfast) causing it to be closed down. We do not plan a trip back at this point, nor do we recommend to others for vacation or especially for a wedding. We are happy we are married but quite happy that our experience at Dreams Cancun is over. On a positive note, the food was overall pretty good across the resort. Also, the photographer and videographer were awesome and provided a great video and over 600 great pictures. But if you are expecting more than pictures and food for that special day of your life, you may rethink your options as it’s not too late.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Gwen sad.gif

Its really unfortunate that they did the renovations without letting you know that it was happening. Alot of the girls on here already have found out about this and are stressing.

Fortunatley, for a few bad reviews there have been LOTS of brides who sucessfully had their weddings at Dreams. I feel for the brides that have to go through this, but I am definitley looking forward to my wedding there...besides everyone is already booked and I can't let myself get all nervous about crappy things happening on my wedding day...a day which is supposed to be one of the happiest days in your life.

To all the other brides to be....please don't sweat the small stuff & just keep happily planning!!! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
