Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Technically no - you can't use outside photogs

The only way around it is if you book them into the resort as a guest for minimum 2-3 nights OR if you bring your own from home (they'll be considered a guest at your wedding, so the resort can't do anything)

I was about to go with Ivan Luckie but then found out that i'd have to book him in to have him. Just wasn't worth it in the end.
I'm bringing my own from home. He's fairly pricey - but we're getting 2 engagement sessions (one home, one in Mexico), the ENTIRE wedding day, AND Trash the Dress the next day. Plus a DVD slide-show!

Arrecife has great quality - but I find their prices to be a rip off for what you're actually getting. So if you're worried about quality- don't be. Its just that you'll end up paying a bit more if you want a lot of pictures.
What bothered me also about Arrecife - is the fact that their packages are high in price- but you're also having to pay extra for pictures of your reception. I think thats ridiculous.
Also - its all just a business to them. They show up...*snap* *snap* and thats it.
I'm much more happy having a photographer who KNOWS my FI and I...knows what we like etc etc. Plus - he'll be there ALL week with us - so on the off chance of nasty weather on the wedding day...we at least can make up for it!!
And whats nice for  my guests is that my photog is offering private couples sessions throughout the week for a discounted price.

You really just have to weigh your pro's and con's. Some people think photography is the be-all end-all of their wedding. Others not so much.
Like I said - I've seen their Facebook page and their shots are quite nice - I just can't justify paying around $2500USD for 160 pictures
But thats just me...

I have been off of the forum for a few days, I have pink eye or an allergic reaction in my eye...who knows!  On top of that other crazy health issues, all I care is it is here now and not in 25 days!! lol, so close!

I did finally talk to Eugenia, so I did get my final details done with her but she kind of brushed off my excursion help.  Which she told me to talk to my travel agent, once I spoke with her she told me to book them when I get there!??  So who knows, hopefully we end up doing something as a group down there!  Kind of frustrated but what can you do?  We hope to do some fishing, and go to the ruins as everyone can do that one.  Some people are afraid of water, so the fishing would be out......anyone hear of good spots to book for these?

I am basically going to finish up my bags, and then be ready to go I think!!!!

My dress alterations look great now too......what a sigh of relief there!

I am getting our pictures done with the resort photographer as we can't afford to fly down our photographer here:(  We are not paying for them, they are a gift from my fiance's parents.  I just hope they turn out good, and we are getting a video for people who could not make it.  I think we are getting 50 pictures for 850 USD, and the extra 10 in our package.  Which I think should be enough:)  Our video is 500 USD, with one camera.  I hope we have some guests who take nice shots too! LOL

Fally: I hope you feel better soon.  I plan on using the resort photographer and I have no worries about the quality...the pictures on their facebook pages are beautiful.  I just am still working over prices..and if I can afford them to go to the reception and dinner.

I have seen a few brides on here have had welcome breakfasts?  How does this work?

I can't believe our wedding is just under 4 moths away, and it seems like so much is already taken care of.  I go for my dress fitting next week!  Now I just need to pick out the details I think, and I need to stop looking at pages of bouquet pictures everyday and just pick one!

Oh Fally!  I hope your eye clears up soon!  But you're right, better now than at at the end of the month!!!

Andrea, I didn't have a welcome breakfast, but we had a welcome dinner at the buffet and I'd assume they'd be handled the same way.  The wedding coordinator just had them block off a section of the seating area for our group.  It was very nice of them.

When we were there the breakfast buffet at the Akumal activity pool was awesome.  It's the italian resturant come evening, but they serve breakfast too.  Not many people knew about it, so it was always emtpy.  If the WC isn't willing to organize your group in the big buffet, I'd recommend just setting a time and having everyone meet at the little buffet.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
