Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am VERY interested in seeing pictures and/or video (Akumal beach location and reception) that you may have!!!

I am also trying to decide on:

A. Ceremony music

B. Cocktail hour music:

Does anyone have samples and/or pictures of the mariachi band, marimba, romantic trio, saxophonist, duet of guitars?

THANK YOU!

Hey abbie32, Eugenia actually got back to me 3 times after I wrote that. haha oops!  I guess a little anxitey.....  Anyway I have decided against doing the sand ceremony.  I read another girls post and she said it was a nice touch but basically she brought it out there (packing was a hassle and the extra weight didn't help) , and she also said she brought it all home and it is still packed up.  I would rather use the extra weight on....well...to be honest, shoes!!  We are also getting married at the hammock location, I am curious what are your colours again?  I am bringing down some fabric for the hammocks as well so maybe we could coordinate because my wedding is just before yours that day.  I am at 1 and I believe your at 4 right?  My colours are teal (peacock) and my flowers are hopefully fuscia or a deep pink anyway.  I am getting sooo excited, I can't believe it's coming up so fast.

I got some crazy cute shoes for the reception, I picked them up last week.  they were pretty cheap off ebay and I am in-love with them. I think they just might be my favorrite shoes...ever!!

After speaking with her I realised how little I know about what will happen on the day and what my options are! I want to know everything!!

I'm assuming that the above problems won't effect me (and hopefully not you ladies in the end, kick off until you get it the way you were sold it!!) since I'm pre-May.

Are the hair and make-up stylists good?

What reception choices are there? (small budget as we have very few guests & 2 young children of our own) is their DJ $190 per hour and do you have to have a DJ? I'm happy to wack an ipod on a docking station!

What are the cakes like, is it worth bringing our own ribbons,  cake topper?

Do you have a good choice of flowers? I want tropical and bright!

I do have so many more questions but typically cannot think right now! But anything you can tell me would be fab!

Thanks so much

Gemma xx

Baileybride2b I loooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee your shoes!!!!!!!!  They are AMAZING &  my colour is hot pink!!!!

Well ladies I am now one very happy bride to be..........First Choice head office emailed resort & have now honoured my booking as made over a year ago & all of my guests will be together in the Tulum & I will be married in the Gazebo.....stress over for now!!!! phew.......A friend of ours tried to book the Tulum yesterday & was told in the travel agents that the hotel was fully booked with all tour operators, my guess is that First Choice have overbooked Tulum & thought by moving my booking that would free up 19 rooms.....well I wouldn't be moved!!!!....lol

On the DJ thing, DJ Bob is the resort DJ you won't get charged an outside vendor fee for him.  However another bit of great news is that they have waived my $90 fee to use DJ Bijan as again they said as I booked him 10 months ago the charge would not apply to me.  So my advice to any ladies experiencing the same fire off an email that gives them the impression you are a bride on the edge & they seem to backtrack on their policies......lol.....omg I sound like a right bridezilla!!!!  No I have been so calm throughout the whole process its just this week gave me kittens thinking we were being moved to Akumal!!

We are doing a sand ceremony, purely as we have an 11 year old & 3 year old & want to involve them in the ceremony, I have brought the sand from poundland in UK & the vase set from Ikea £25!!  bargain!!  Jazmin has said she will read the reading I found on the internet after the ceremony.

Does anyone who has had their dinner in Le Gran Tortuga know the table layout?  & how many guest can fit around one table?  am trying to organise my seating & have found two different emails from Jazmin one saying I can have 7 - 10 people around a table & another saying 5????!!!!

xx

I've posted the pictures previously, but this thread is huge so I'll post them again!

This is the Akumal Hammock Beach site.  I brought along the fabric.  The flowers on the table are included.  I added the three flowers on the top of the arch, and the two along the aisle.  The fake white ones come included.  You can also see my sand ceremony stuff on the table... it was so windy it wouldn't stand.  I wasn't a big fan of that.

This is the aisle.  I had three bags of petals...

Here is my Akumal Poolside reception.  I brought along the table runners.  Chair bows and green linens were provided.  The centerpieces were my decorations from the ceremony.

It appears I don't have pictures of the trio on this computer... I'll try to remember to upload them soon!

Freak out! I've just realised that 2 of our witnesses aren't arriving until 2 days before the wedding - am I right in thinking that all witnesses must be there 4 business days before the wedding and non blood relatives? What will happen as apart from the other 2 witnesses who fly with us the rest of our guests are my immediate family! Any knowlege from past or brides to be would be fab, thanks! Gemma xx

Babyshaws - They have to be there 4 days prior...I dont really think there are any exceptions. You meet with the coordinator usually the day after you get there and she makes copies of passports. Immediate family is fine for witnesses. We used my brother and my husband used his brother. Maybe just double check with your coordinator and see if the two days is an issue and if so you may have to use family members.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
