Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Women can get away with practically ANYTHING there. As long as its tasteful, women aren't going to get hassled at all about their clothing. No swimsuits of course but really anything else goes. No different than at home... you wouldn't go to a nice classy restaurant at home in short shorts and a boob tube!

I'm not doing favors since we got our guests OOT bags...

Another question (sorry I leave in 5 days so there will probably be many more before then)... Are you supposed to tip the Minister/Judge?

we didn't...but honestly right after the ceremony we did a toast and took pics...and with everyone congratulating us it was so hectic...i don't even remember seeing the judge. she must of left immediately. i don't even remember seeing karla (WC) until it was time to go on the shuttle to the restaurant.

i bought maracas in playa del carmen the day before the wedding. they were selling them at the hacienda at the resort for $6usd/each. at playa i paid $1-1.50usd/each. i wanted specific colours, and needed 40 so i had to go to a few shops but i got them.

not sure what else you are thinking of getting for favours...but go to playa. it's much cheaper than the resort. playa is about 25mins from the resort. you can take a collectivo, shuttle bus or taxi. it's not too pricey.

Same here, we were introduced as husband and wife and we greeted our guests and the minister that married us was gone in a flash. I really had not thought of it prior either... You can spend a bundle if you tip eveyone that has paid a part in your wedding. They get paid for their job so I wouldn't worry about it. I did tip Jazmin and Mara because they went the extra mile for us. I will also suggest that if you have room grab a bag of "Maple Cookies", Jazmin will love you to death.. their he favourite you can buy them at Metro.

Hello,

I am so excited! My wedding date is FINALLY confirmed for April 6th, 2011 at the Akumal beach hammocks location. I can't wait to start booking everything in. I already started working on my boarding pass invites. haha

Our vacation package from Canada is only for the Tulum or Coba resort, so which one would you recommend staying at? I'm so happy that I can still get married at the Akumal beach location, despite not staying there.

Do you have your dinner and reception at the same place as your wedding or do you have them where you are staying? Just curious. I thought I read somewhere that you had to have your dinner and reception where you were staying.

Thanks!

Congratulations!

We stayed in the Coba and were very very happy with our choice. Having the extra space that you get in the Coba rooms (they're Jr Suites) makes all the difference when you're in the room with your bridesmaids getting ready!
You generally have your dinner at the same location as your wedding location... so for us, we were staying at the Coba but the wedding was at the Akumal hammocks location so we were offered the Dolce Vita or the Frutos del Mar for our dinner. These restaurants are at the Akumal. Makes sense because the WC for the location of the wedding would be arranging your dinner. If you had a dinner at a different location, then 2 WC's would be involved. Way too much chance of things going astray!

you have to have your dinner/reception where you are staying. so if you are having your ceremony at akumal, but staying at coba or tulum the dinner/reception will be there.

as for which side should you stay at, that's up to you. coba is a short distance to the beach and tulum is closer. tulum is on the other side from akumal. if you want to stay closer to akumal then pick coba. if you are wondering about the day of the wedding, there will be a shuttle for you and your guests to take you to the ceremony so don't worry.

i think all the coba rooms are junior suites with jacuzzi tubs if that makes a difference. other than that everything else should be the same.

I'm legally married!!!!! 4 days til I leave :)

For the bride who was asking about if children are counted in the special cocktails head count (sorry, I can't remember who it was).. they are NOT. I just received confirmation from Jazmin and the head count was one less than our total (we have 1 child - my daughter).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
