AD2012, when did you put the cash down as a deposit for the DJ?  The pictures you posted are beautiful! :)

Does anyone know how much the minister's fee is?  When is he paid?

We put the cash down at our meeting with Jazmin. I think it was around 500-600 it was half of what we paid for our wedding in total.  This included flowers, any resort supplied decorations, resort DJ, cake, bar option for poolside reception, additional sparkling wine for after the ceremony, and any other charges from the resort relating to our wedding. We went with the Sunshine Package for $975 which at the time of our booking included minister fees.

Just a quick question for everyone. I am travelling from the UK and am hearing mixed opinions on the best currency to take. Some people say that the currency is the peso so take the peso. Some recommend the US dollar. All the prices of things at the hotel are in dollars. When we visited Mexico before we were recommended to take the US dollar but that was about 10 years ago and things may have change since then. Plus we still got change in peso's anyway so got confusing. Any advice?

I know we won't need to carry too much money with being all inclusive. Mainly for tips and excursions. Do most people pay for the wedding by card?

We took USD, and I think they prefer US money vs peso. Everywhere we went (ie resort, city, excursions) took USD money. They also have an exchange desk in the lobby, but the rates are probably not as good. We used the exchange desk a few times to exchange $10 usd to $1 usd so that was helpful. If you buy stuff in the resort or in the city, they will give back change in peso. We just used those as tips lol. At the end of our trip, we paid for our wedding with a credit card during check out. They will give you an invoice and everything will be written in spanish and currency in pesos. When you meet with your coordinator she will calculate everything out for you and tell you how much the invoice will be for the wedding. Hope this helps!

Great tips Cynlee! Thanks!! Looks like it was a great day! Glad to hear the resort DJ is a good one! We're going to bring our iPod anyway just in case

We did the same too :). Oh, we also bought glow sticks ($1 at michaels or dollarama) for the poolside reception and that was a big hit!

I'm not sure how big they were, but we bought 2 bags for our beach wedding and that wasn't enough :( ... but it would have been blown away from the breeze too lol. Their $10 or $11 usd per bag and you can get them in any colors you want.

We were also told we needed to pay a deposit when we met with Jazmin.  I think it was about $500, more cash than I was comfortable having on me, so I asked and they said they took travelers cheques, so that is what we did instead of having $500 cash on us.

Good to know!  How many bags do you think would have been enough?  We are thinking about using flower petals instead of the carpet for our ceremony at the Tulum gazebo.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
