So I need advice on a bit of a sensitive topic. My FI and I are wondering if asking a Groomsman to step down from his position is the right thing to do. One of my Bridesmaids mother in law passed away this week (a big F**k you to cancer, she was diagnosed 3 weeks ago and told she had at least 6 months!). For obvious reasons my Bridesmaid is unable to come as we are 16 days from departure. I don't want to try and fill her spot with anyone else as it would not feel genuine to me, but should we ask one of the Groomsmen to step down from his "duties"? My FI thinks it would be weird to have uneven numbers, and I really have no idea what to do.

I am SO sorry about your bridesmaid's mother.  That is so terrible!!!

In my opinion, your groomsmen isn't any less of a friend to your groom.  He didn't do anything wrong (the normal reason for asking to step down) and has probably stood by your groom's side which is why he is a groomsmen in the first place.

I wouldn't cut him.  I would go with uneven numbers.  As a photographer, there really is nothing wrong with this.  You can barely tell.  Most traditional weddings have ushers and things that make the boys side uneven anyways.  Photographers know how to work around it and not make it look awkward.

Are you planning on couples walking down the aisles or just the ladies?  For my wedding I had couples, in which case there would be a gentleman on each side of one bridesmaid.  However the last wedding that I photographed at the Gran Bahia, the groomsmen were already standing at the alter.  In which case, you really wouldn't notice.

Bah - don't cut him - no need - Tlseege is right! Uneven is the new thing these days anyway...i have 4 bridesmaids and only 2 groomsmen - and that was planned! ha! well sort of...my hunny just doesn't really have anyone to stand up with him but i didn't care - i wasn't cutting my ladies to make it even. It is what it is! and your photog will be able to play with it and make it look good no matter what.

Great review!!  I can't wait to see pictures.  I think we can't see them because we aren't friends with you :(  Can you upload a few directly to the website? How many photos did you end up buying from Acricife.  Did their prices change at all?

Yes must be I'm on the iPad so can't upload them from home, but will do when I'm at moms as I no how helpfull the pics are. We was going to have the 50 photos on cd and 15 printed then our ten free which would have cost £570 aprox we ended up having 80 on cd and none printed which cost £630 aprox diago is a great photographer but English isn't that great so when we was discussing prices we didn't understand. Think we prob could have got them cheaper if he had understud us and us him!! It was great watching the pics on sideshow we both cried as we watched it specially with the music in the background. It was perfect, ( makes you want to buy them all lol) Xx

Oh i can't wait to see them Emily!!  (and for those in the US, that's $830 and $817 Canadian)

You could also switch the album on facebook and make it visible to everyone.  It usually defaults to friends only, but if you switch it to everyone then we could link to it on here and you wouldn't have to reupload anything.

I just recently did the symbolic ceremony and the whole 4 day thing before the ceremony is only for the legal ceremony (you have to do more paperwork and get bloodtests, etc.) We stayed for a whole 7 days so we arrived on Wednesday afternoon, had the wedding on Saturday, and left the following Wednesday. There might be a limit on how many days before the wedding for symbolic, but I don't think you have to be there 4 whole days. Hope that helps.

I was under the impression that you only needed to be there for 4 days if you were having the legal ceremony.

Yup, 4 days is for legal.  Symbolic I believe you can do the day after you arrive if you'd like... but I think they'd prefer it be the next day so you can have your meeting with the coordinator.
