Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Thanks Sunnyee!  Guess what?  He is!  He got back to me within an hour last night!  So excited!  Just waiting to hear back from Jazmin today (she was away until today), to confirm that we can do the dinner at an a la carte (hoping for Gran Tortuga) and then the poolside cocktail reception.  Once she says yes, I'm sending him our deposit!  He he.

Patourn, can you also send me the pricing information for the poolside reception?

Hey girls, I have been lurking on this website for months, but haven't decided on a resort yet.  I am really interested in having my wedding at Gran Bahia Principe.  It looks like a fun resort with a lot of entertainment for my guests and it has good reviews on tripadvisor.  My main concern right now is that the pictures I've seen so far from Arrecife look kinda dark.  I want to have my wedding reception on the beach, with pretty aquamarine blue water in the background.  But so far I've seen only pictures with a rocky beach and dull blue water in the background.

Maybe there are different sites I can choose from or I just haven't seen the right pictures?  I hope you can help me out.  I really want to use this resort, but beautiful pictures is why I am choosing Cancun/Riviera Maya for my wedding.

I look forward to any advice you can give.

I thought I submitted a post, but I don't see it now.  Hi everyone! I've been lurking on here for a while.  We're planning our wedding for June 11, 2011 and have not yet decided on a resort.  I'm really interested in Gran Bahia Principe, but I'm concerned that the beach doesn't look as nice as some other resorts.  I had my heart set on some great wedding beach photos, with clear aquamarine water and powdery sand.  But the only pictures I've seen so far are rocky beaches and murky blue waters.  I'm not sure if the pictures I'm looking at are taken around sunset or the middle of the day, but they seem dark.  Can anyone help me know what are the different wedding site locations at Gran Bahia Principe that I can choose from?

Thanks a bunch!

Christi

You have no worries, the water is clear and beautiful at the bahia! The rocky area is where people don't even swim (right at the AKumal beach hammock location. I was there in August and it is breathtaking! I loved it there and the resort was amazing. I do agree that the beach could be better because it was kind of small but it was so calm and clear and you could swim with fish by the dock that it didn't even bother me. They have areas sectioned off to protect the coral reef so it was understandable that we were limited to where we could swim!

I also have been looking for other resorts that had nice long white sandy beaches with blue water but the pictures look so plain and simple! Something about having the option to have those rocky pictures make them look more artistic, romantic and interesting. Everyone has their own preferences so whichever resort you choose (including the Bahia) you will have gorgeous pictures! You're in Mexico :) theres beautiful beaches everywhere :)

Good luck with your decisions <3

Thanks Tanyam!  So my remaining questions are.  Do you think they have any wedding site locations at GBP near some blue water?  What is the Akumal hammock location?  They only sent me the wedding package prices and I haven't seen a list of wedding sites I can choose from.

I saw some GBP Tulum pictures from JoLo98 in 2009 and they look beautiful.  But I don't know if it's because her photographer was different or if there has been any hurricane damage since then.  So I'm looking for updated information, since it is required to use the on-site photographers.  And I don't know the name of the site that JoLo98 used. Here are the JoLo98 pics I looked at.

I'm trying to make my decision by today because Expedia has a Paradise Sale for GBP hotels and I don't know when the sale ends.

Hi Christi,

I looked at the pictures and from what I can tell, they used a beach site almost immediately to the right of the Tulum Gazebo. As the photos were taken in 2009, I am unsure if they still use that site or if the only choices are the Gazebo (Tulum) or the Hammock location (Akumal). I've attached photos...let's see if they work.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
