Gran Bahia Principe Akumal/Tulum/Coba - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

oh i came online to ask a few questions and others already asked...about bringing your own vows. good to know.

as for corona, i don't remember seeing it anywhere when i've been in the past. it's mostly dos-x.

also, there are all night snack bars that serve beer for sure. oh and a tip i learned on my second visit...you can order personal pizza's at the all night snack bar. that was a lifesaver for me since i thought they only had burgers & hot dogs (and i'm vegetarian).

i'm getting anxious...just a little over 3 months to go!

Hi ladies,

Was wondering where everybody is doing the ceremony and reception(dinner) ??

We have tons of planning time but I really like to get an idea of what were doing. Since we have our second baby due in May, want to get the details worked out before Im to busy to think about it. When we were there the Tulum Gazebo looked great, but where are the other options? Were you given a list?

What about pool side reception vs. picking a restaurant? Any thoughts on which way to go? If we choose a restaurant can you bring in a DJ or do you share the space with other resort guests?

Also, when choosing Tulum, Akumal or Coba side (which we havent done yet) how did you make your choice? Is one better than the other?

Thanks for any input =)

tahnks
I have seen some posts from girls that have used the resort photographer and if I remember correctly they were happy with the service and photos that they received.

If you do decide that you want to use your own photographer it would have to be one that you bring with you. The resort no longer allows outside photographers. That means that you would have to have one that is staying as a guest at the resort. Something to think about for sure.

Try and do a search in the thread to find them posts about the resort photographer. They should be too far back...less then 10 pages is my guess.

We're having our dinner at the Dolce Vita and a poolside reception at the Akumal pool right outside it. From what I've read its a heck of alot more cost to have the dinner at the poolside because its not included at all. Whereas the way we're doing it, the dinner is included as one of your guests a la cartes and then you just pay per head/hr for the reception poolside with just drinks. With the restaurant, you're likely sharing it with other guests but I think it depends on which one you choose and at what time. We have the restaurant to ourselves for the first hour before they open it up to the rest of the guests so that's pretty cool. We were told no DJ in the restaurant.

For the most part, you have to book your wedding and dinner at the resort you're staying at. Unless you're at the Coba like we are because there's no beach. So we're staying at the Coba but our wedding location and dinner are at the Akumal. Our wedding is at the hammocks location on the Akumal beach. Once you have the location chosen, they give you 2 choices usually for your dinner location.

The reason that we chose the Coba is twofold. It was the best price for our guests and the rooms are ALL Jr Suites. So you have a separate sitting area living room type thing which is nice to have especially if you have ppl in your room for the wedding to get ready!

Hi ladies,

Just a quick review before I go into a detailed one later this week! Had our wedding at Bahia Principe Akumal, brought in photographers from Studio 67 in Canada and there was no problems...everything I found was "no problem, don't worry" and it's exactly what we didn't have to do...we had no worries...Eugenia who is only 24 years old but years beyond professional compared to Yuritzia was fabulous...we got free pics from the resort package anyways....the photographer was Jose and wow his pictures were so beautiful! THe ceremony was perfect, short and sweet and the dinner at Arlequin made our guests ooh and ahhhh...after dinner we headed to Tulum lobby bar for some dancing with our guests to the live band and then to the disco..it was perfect and I wouldn't recommend a private poolside reception unless there are a lot of guests because there is so many other places to go for free! It was a dream come true....I have soooo many positive things to say and Eugenia is a dream coordinator!

More things to come!

Trying to paste a pic on here but can't seem to figure it out

Conrado is no longer the resort photographer. You might want to contact your WC again for updated information.

Congratulations!! We just left the Coba on the 6th! Was your group's men wearing the funky hats? If so, we got drunk beside them a couple times :)

How many guests did you have?? We have 40+ coming and met with Eugenia on the 4th, she is so professional! She made us feel completely at ease and we can't wait for everything in April!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
