I totally feel your pain Joanna! I've been in the same situation - everyone is calling me now, asking about refunds, etc. We don't leave for another 6 weeks - I'm trying to get people to hang in there and just wait it out. I saw you on another post - I'm totally with ya - if people want to bail, they can bail. I've put way too much time and effort into this to not go based on the flu threats which are not even on the RM coast! Until WHO puts out a travel ban, this wedding is still happening! That being said... my mom has already looked into plan B - i.e having the wedding here in Vancouver.

I am leaving in 3 weeks, and holding out hope... no plan B for me :) So far there is still no advisory, in Canada, to not go, so fingers crossed. Maybe all you girls could also cross them for us, for extra luck!!!

Hey guys, I'm back and I don't have the swine flu! YAY!

Although most of the deaths seem to coming from the Mexico City area, it seems that many of the out of towners were traveling through Cancun. I feel really bad for all of you ladies who have weddings coming up. I would suggest that super concerned guests wear a mask through the airports and bring Lysol, but I don't think it's cause to cancel (imo). It seems like non-Mexicans are not getting bad cases of it, so even if they got it, it would just be a week or two in bed with some anti-virals. I firmly believe that the deaths are mostly caused by poor health care and sick people working too hard instead of resting. The resort did put out hand sanitizers at the restaurants after the outbreak started (unfortunately, I believe that they were mostly anti-bacterial, so it'll do nothing to prevent the flu).

The USD is definitely back up above the CAD much to the disappointment of the many Canadian friends I made on our journey. I'll write up a review as soon as I get settled in.

Really!? I'm so sorry to hear that. Can you do a civil ceremony at home and then post-pone the destination part? Was is BP that cancelled or the airline?

It was the airline that suspended all travel. Our TA is trying to send us somewhere else, but she is giving us a 2% chance of that working out. I'm just so sad, sitting here looking at my box of wedding favours and such, a home ceremony is a good idea though, with a later destination part, not not what I had envisioned... never felt so lost.

To make matters worse the travel company is being horrible. I paid for most of my family and I couldnt afford insurance for everyone and they are saying absolutely NO REFUNDS. I was hoping to get refunds and all take off to Vegas but they have made that impossible. If this doesn't get fixed I will make it my life mission to discourage any one from ever using this company, can't believe they have no sympathy when this was completly out of my control....
