I was just wondering where the best place to go after the dinner is over?  We are having a large reception back home so opted not to pay for one down there as well.  I am looking for alternatives to a private reception that would be good.

Woohoo!! Either pigs are flying or it's our lucky day!! Finally heard back from Paloma.. to tell me the other date we picked wasn't available haha! We have been inquiring about a beach reception but she keeps pushing the pool for some reason. So to make things easier for ourselves, we are now leaning towards it. When we were there last year, we saw a party going on under what seemed to be a large palapa around a pool area either in Akumal or Coba and can't remember which it was - it was 100% not Tulum. We are expecting around 40 people and want enough room to dance - anyone know which pool is most private and has the most space to move around?

We booked our wedding at the Grand Bahia Principe Akumal - we are due to get married in just under 4 months (9th May). Anyway I have emailed Eugenia quite a few times with no response. I recognise that she is busy but I really need to know a few important things in particular - I'm hoping someone here can help me ASAP.

 

When we booked with FC in July the weddings department told us that my partner (who is a British national) DID NOT need to have his passport, long birth certificate and divorce certificate translated into Spanish & notarised. We have had some issues with FC so I would rather get definitive guidance from Eugenia on this. I have sent these emails to her with no response.

 

I am still going to wait for her response (so I have this all documented) but can anyone let me know what their experiences were - 

if you are British, were you required to have your documents (as above) translated & notarised? What firm did you use to do this? What were the estimated costs?

We are getting married at Akumal in May. I am a Canadian national and my partner is a British national. We were told by First Choice (our tour operator) that my partner (who is british) doesn't need to legalise or translate his long birth certificate & divorce certificate.  We have had issues with them so I would like to find out what others experiences have been.

 

I have asked our coordinator Eugenia but haven't heard back from her - getting very anxious considering its now less than 4 months away! I also don't want to spend money if its not definitely needed.

 

When all you brides on this forum got married at the Akumal resort (British or Canadian nationals) what did you need to do with regards to your documents?

Are any of you ladies planning something for AFTER the poolside reception ends at 11pm?

I would say the lobby bars or the hacienda.  The hacienda will have live music eventually, but I think it's later.  So you're better off at the lobby bars for a couple hours.  They will most likely have live music going on earlier.

Your wedding is coming up SO quickly!  And I'm glad you finally confirmed everything.

Yeah, a beach reception is really not a great idea.  The beach isn't really flat in this area, it's really dark, depending on time of year there are bugs that come out on the beach at night, and the wind will get sand on all your food. 

At first I wanted a beach reception too, but after being told that and then having the poolside reception, they were right.  The poolside was far better.

Most private = Coba.  Space to move around = Akumal.

Most go to the Hacienda... or to bed!

Hi Miriam, we have booked with first choice and have not been told to translate or legalise any documents and that we just need passports, tourist cards and birth certificates. What date are you getting married? Ours is may too

Thanks TIseege.  We are getting married on a thursday, and I read the Hacienda has a Mexican night that on Thursdays....did I read that you have to pay to do that?
